PiTcarz Car Share

I am sad to report that I believe the company is closed as of 2018.
I tried to rent a car a few weeks ago and the website is not up, the phone number is disconnected and they have not updated any of their social media accounts from a year ago!

What the hell happened?

I used PiTcarz before they became PiTcarz, starting in 2015.
Jonathan , the owner, was always polite, professional and friendly.
I remember Jonathan telling me they were transitioning from regular gas rental cars to those small little hybrid smart cars. I really didn't like the smart cars because they are so small and kind of ugly, but he was always willing to negotiate a better price for me.

When corporate rental agencies would not rent a car to me due, to some bullshit errors on my license, Jonathan did and was really flexible.

I wish PiTcarz was still around or some other alternative.

PiTcarz has great pricing. I had booked a trip out to LAX from 8/11/16-8/15/16, and found them to be the cheapest. Jonathan was great. He met me in the LAX airport and was very friendly and professional. The car I got had lots of dings but Jonathan apologized and waived the return fuel policy as a result. Everything was seamless, and despite the car having many dings, I enjoyed my experience with Jonathan and the car ran great.

However, 5 days after returning my rental I noticed the $300 holding fee had not been refunded back to my credit card. I called to inquire why it hadn't and was told by Jonathan to give it a few more days, as it takes up to 10 business days for the holding to be refunded back.

It's been more than 10 business days now, as we are in the month of September, so I called to follow-up as to why the $300 hold has not yet been refunded. Unfortunately, I was not able to get anyone on the phone, but did leave a message.

Life is crazy, so I may have forgotten about the hold had I not reviewed my credit card statement for this month. It's disappointing to know that my $300 hold may have fell through the cracks and not been noticed by the company. Although I would give them a 4 rating, it is a 3 until this issue is resolved, which I trust it will be. Will post an update.

$300 hold has been refunded and issue has been resolved, therefor I am changing the rating to a 4.

I was fortunate to find out about Pitcarz few weeks ago. Such convenient and affordable rental service saved my life and allowed me to keep myself on the go while my own car was in the body shop after the hit-and-run accident.
Jonathan and his team made sure I have a reliable and safe car to drive, which is also turned as very cute but speedy Chevrolet Spark.
I will definitely recommend Pitcarz to everyone I know since now on.

While my previous experiences renting with PitCarz were great, the way they treat you once you've been in an accident is unacceptable. My credit card's insurance covered the accident, the damage to the car, and the liability that is automatically included in the rental fee, covered the other person's car. That being said, PitCarz charged me a $737 towing fee for the car, a charge that they were supposed to eat up and be reimbursed by Master Card once everything settled.

In their demand letter, it asked Master Card to reimburse me the $737 towing fee, and instead of me getting paid, they paid PitCarz for the cost of the car, PLUS MY towing fee. It has been so much of a hassle just to get them to pay me my portion of the money that they rightfully owe me. In the award letter it directly states that they paid them for the car AND the towing fee was included, so this is not a misunderstanding; I still have the email that was sent to both myself AND Mark Rivera. I spoke to Jonathan Rivera (I'm guessing they are related and that maybe this business is family-owned) some time in late October/early November and he said that they were "working on it".

The accident happened all the way back in June, they were reimbursed in September and now here we are in December I have yet to hear ANYTHING back from Jonathan or ANY of the staff from PitCarz. The way they have handled this situation from the very beginning has been very poor and I would NOT recommend using this company for your rental needs. I honestly had a much better experience with Zip Car (which I am shocked based on some of the reviews I've seen), even though they are just a few dollars more expensive. ZipCar at least has VARIETY in their cars (AND newer cars, might I add; I last rented a 2016 Honda Fit that drives REALLY nice and smoothly, plus they even have cars available that don't have their logo decals plastered all over it if you want one like that and they are the same price to rent as the ones with the logos on them), and their customer assistance has been a dream.

If I have to, I will sue this company not only for the towing fee, but the interest that is accruing on my credit card from this charge. I never authorized them to make this charge to my card. My credit card account still has not quite recovered from this. They overdrew beyond my card's credit limit and they have been very unapologetic about it. I just want my money so I can be done with this company. I gave them the information of where to send my check; I may end up stopping in the office to get at them in person because this is getting ridiculous. I am not rich and I cannot afford to just lose $737. As someone who spent so much money renting from this company, I am really disappointed in the way they have handled this situation and I advise other customers to beware. Even the car I rented in my last rental was filthy, the gas card didn't work. I had to pay out of pocket for gas and to get the car washed.

For a few more dollars, just go with ZipCar and skip this company.

I'm leaving this review up until this issue is resolved. I will not change it before then. I will not refer people to your business like I was in the past, and I will not rave about you guys until I have been paid in full. You guys definitely have the money to pay me because you have regular renters streaming in. You have made more than enough money to pay me my $737. I also plan to report you guys to the BBB and whomever else I need to report to. This is unacceptable.

*Update: I was also able to confirm that PitCarz not only received the check that included MY towing fee that they owe me, they have also cashed it already; Master Card even told me the DATE it was cashed and everything. These people are crooks who steal money. I saw the review below where someone said they took the $300 holding fee that his card was charged. Believe me when I say that's no coincidence. Be careful what credit card you give to this company. I ended up having to get a new card number and account because they were making erroneous charges that I did not authorize.

PiTcarz saved the day after my car was hit and I needed an affordable rental immediately. The car was spotless and only had 30 miles on it. I love its eco friendly approach and convenient pickup/drop off locations. Unparalleled customer service. Loved this experience so much that I am now a pit pass member!

Absolutely fantastic service. I keep going back to this company. Have used their cars for the last 2 months. Very efficient with rebooking, the Cars are great and the customer service is excellent. Deffo recommend if you need to hire a car!!!!!

Great service and some of the best cars around and I mean it (Clean, Newer (mine was a 2015), Great gas mileage, and a full touch screen stereo system with iPhone hookup though usb so it charges and does the GPS over the car speakers I didn't try pairing it with bluetooth as I was only using it for work for a day but I think it had that as well! I will definitely use them again when I need a car! I tried one of the cheaper car rental places in Hollywood CA and they don't compare at all seriously its like night and day and these guys are cheaper! HAHA win win all around in my book. A full day car rental and the refill on gas came out to right under $30 and I only spent like 15 minutes between the pickup and drop off which is unheard of not to mention they have a pickup location 1 block away... yes you read that right 1 block away? I will be a customer again in the future for sure!

I used to use Zipcar for car rentals but then this company came along and why would I spend $10/hr for a car when I can rent from these guys for $30/DAY??? Sorry Zipsters, but Pitcarz just won me over. And super easy and convenient to boot! Great cars, great team and a great experience. My go to from now on.

The perfect car rental service. I needed a car STAT one evening and Pitcarz saved the day. The process was quick and easy and the return was even easier. Car was perfect for my needs and the low gas mileage is the cherry on top. About to contact them again because I need a car for the afternoon today. :)

I used the yelp deal and it was great. The car was clean and new and it was so cheap and easy. Highly recommend.
