So, I have never tried Bun Rieu before... I saw it on a menu on Yelp & this was the restaurant closest to me that had Bun Rieu on the menu. They also have Bun Bo Hue (my absolute FAVORITE soup). I had to come here and have both! I made my bf drive 45 mins from home just to take me here lol
My first time ever having bun rieu and it was a total hit! I loved it! It had like crab (maybe egg mixed with it?? Not sure) in the soup, and 2 pieces of skin on shrimp. Um, YUM! It reminded me a little of (Filipino) shrimp sinigang (a semi sour tamarind soup) but with noodles! I honestly can't tell you if was served authentic, but i really enjoyed it. This brand new to me soup dish is definitely up on my top 3 favorite Vietnamese soups.
I had also ordered the Bun Bo Hue to go. I really liked itatop. It wasn't as spicy as other BBH soups I've had elsewhere but I'm not complaining (I'm actually really wimpy when it comes to spicy). It also came with an extra container of shrimp paste, in case you like it a little saltier/shrimpier. Can definitely appreciate that! Its also served with a pork shank?/hock?, and the blood cake. Which definitely makes a really authentic BBH. My BF ordered beef pho, which i believe he was satisfied with being that he finished his whole bowl. I didn't really ask, i was way too into my soup to care lol
I will definitely be back, especially during soup szn!Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Dan C.Scottsdale, AZ116391534Nov 8, 2018
Best F!ckin Bahn Mi Grilled BBQ pork sandwiches on the planet!! I've eaten more of these awesome Jimmy Johns of the Viet world.
These folks blow away all others. The sandwich itself is filled to the brim and the meat has a nice juicy tenderness to it, it's served freshly bbq and hot.
You got to grab one of these heavenly creations!Helpful 3Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Sandy L.University Place, WA3297299Apr 2, 2018
Easily one of the best Vietnamese spots in Tacoma. Aside from my mother's kitchen!
My family and I come here a lot to get lunch or order to-gos. Our favorite go-to dishes include the Bún Maeng Vît (Vermicelli noddle soup with duck salad) -Dad's favorite or Bún riêu (Crab noodle soup) - Mom's favorite. Their special rice dishes are pretty good.
For appetizers, spring rolls and fried egg rolls are better than most places. The Vietnamese pork and shrimp dumpling is not a bad choice.
For the authenticity and price, this location is a spot you don't want to miss!Helpful 4Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Stephen C.Washington, DC64910090Aug 6, 2018
BLUF: Great Vietnamese food that fills you up without breaking your wallet!
This small little restaurant may not be large in space, but packs a great deal of flavor in every bite! I came here straight from the airport as I was starving and needed a quick bite to eat before heading to JBLM. Parking was available, whether it was on the street or in the back. I was seated quickly when I entered and did not feel rushed when I ordered my food. Customer service was warm, and the waiter was available when I needed him.
I ordered the spring rolls and beef pho; the spring rolls did not hold back on quantity as I had 4 of them. Each spring roll tasted fresh and the shrimp and pork didn't clash with each other as sometimes the flavors from either can overpower the other. I appreciated that there weren't too many herbs in these spring rolls as well. The pho was delicious! I loved how it was savory, yet herbal and slightly sweet which was a different taste for me with pho from Houston or DC.
All in all, this was a great stop to grab a quick bite to eat. Thanks for calming down my hunger after an extremely long flight! I enjoyed my stop here and may drop by on my way out of the Seattle Tacoma area.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - T.T. H.Puyallup, WA3426Apr 23, 2021
During Covid they were remodeling and only did take out. Now that they are open for in dining again I learned it's new owners and new-Ish menu. I had the Mi Dry and it was good. I will need to continue trying other dishes in the future.

I came here with my wife for a second visit.
The Bun Bo Hue was COMPLETELY different this time. The soup was actually spicy!
Last time I had come here, it was a clear broth with flakes of chili and I was quite disappointed.
I got the chicken sandwich and the bbh, and my wife had ordered the vermicelli.
It was definitely a much better experience than the first go around. I will have to try it a third time to see if this will become one of my new favorite pho places!Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 2Oh no 0Apr 13, 2016Previous reviewI've driven past this area so much that it's never crossed my mind to actually stop here. My wife and I were actually trying to go to Vien Dong, but they were closed for whatever reason. We came to Pho Dragon because of that reason.
I ordered the BBH and a bbq chicken bahn mi and my wife just got the brisket pho. My BBH was just "okay".. but the bahn mi was great! First bite, I didn't really enjoy it.. but then the aftertaste had me hooked. The noodles in both the pho and bbh were too chewy though..
Outside of the food, the establishment is pretty small and dark inside. Everyone from the back kitchen came out and sat down in the dining area and were talking pretty loudly.. it was kind of obnoxious.. it was a fun experience.. I mean, one time experience. - Marjorie B.Lakewood, WA3791Aug 21, 2020
Absolutely sort pho broth I've ever had. I've grown up eating pho. Every pho place has a different broth and most I've found enjoyable. Some are sweeter, some are richer, earlier or more anise flavoring. I know my pho! This broth was gritty and somehow had an overpowering flavor of artificial sweetener. It activated my gag reflex instantly. I truly hope it was just an off day for the chief. We did order other items. My son tried the BBQ bahn-mi, the shrimp dumplings and their Vietnamese crepe. These items look ok but I haven't been able to try them since tasting that broth. My husband also ordered the bunbohue which I am waiting on his response. If the other items are good I will update because it's important for people to know but, for a place with pho in its name I'm highly dissapointed.
Edit! The bunbohue (sp) is more like a tom yum but delicious! The shrimp and pork dumplings were good but a bit greasy. We have yet to try the pancake. HOWEVER hubby woke up and he also tried the pho broth. We both agree it is terrible. Now I'm really hoping the cooks had an off day because everything was ok.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - 4728648Nov 26, 2017
I think that I need a lot of help, when it comes to loving "pho". I tried a dish here that looked delicious, and not too exotic for my bland American buds--that have been ruined by decades of Carl's Jr. and Taco Bell. Whatever I chose... NOT good. I was able to get through the veggies that I recognized, as well as many of the noodles and some of the chicken. But there was too much fat and some bone in the chicken, which made the process of eating it more like walking a field of mines. Didn't want to crack a tooth while struggling to get through this dish. Then there were these weird looking red, gelatinous cubes. I asked before trying one. Turns out it's a blob of pork blood!! What.... in.... the... hell!!? NOT good. I'm sure plenty love to munch on coagulated pig blood cubes, but I'm not one of them.
All in all though... the restaurant was clean, the service was pretty average, and the food was... well... definitely different. I was expecting the wrong things from my pho experience. When you're use to having beef and veggie soup, made by my grandma Esther... all other soups will disappoint. So they were at a loss from the start.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0
