First and last time I will order from this place. I normally ask to deliver; I don't know what they do or if they clean after themselves when making their pizzas. But I've ordered from them a while back and later was met with a stomach virus after eating one of their pizzas; when I confronted them about this they did something nice by giving me a free pizza on their behalf but by then the damage was already done. And now, just recently I just found out that they closed the place on 145th street in Harlem due to contamination (Not surprised!!). Ordering out regardless is a risk but I don't think I'll will be ordering anything from these guys for a while until they get ranked or change their policy on cleanliness in the workplace!
Don't do it...DON'T DO IT. Find a different Papa John's or just another place that serves food. Period. Slowest food service, understaffed, poorly trained, and just incompetence across the board. We came in with a coupon that we made sure worked in-store (we called the manufacturer of the coupon AND the Papa John's service people). The coupon clearly states; "Order any x-large pizza and get any x-large equal or lesser value free". They even failed to comprehend that sentence and told me, "its for the large pizza". No sir....it indicates x-large. Then they followed by saying, "it doesn't work in-store". No sir...it indicates and clearly states "present coupon at the point of purchase". Like they just don't understand basic sentence construction. In the end, employees just didn't know how to put in the coupon code. Let alone cook a pizza in a timely fashion. Poor food, Poor service, horrible all around. No matter what type of deals, coupons, etc they throw at you; it is NOT worth it. Because in the end you would have wasted 1 hour of your life, hungry and miserable. This is honestly not a rant review, just saving all ya'll the trouble.
Don't order from here BEWARE!!! I've had problems before, but this was my last time with the franchises again! Ordered a pizza, it was late, cold and not what I ordered. Called customer service giving me the run around and somebody would call me. Well they didn't, but I have deleted the app and giving a bad review. Mindless idiots with the latest Jordan's I'm sure
There needs to be a negative star option I used to order from here all the time, but never again-- my orders generally take longer than expected to arrive, and I have been in a customer service feud for over a month now about getting the wrong pizza delivered and not receiving the extra sauces and seasoning packets I ordered. not only is this location awful, but corporate customer service royally sucks. I have now complained to corporate through their website THREE DIFFERENT TIMES ABOUT THE SAME issue and it has yet to be resolved-- the wrong pizza and no extras which I paid for issue happened OVER A MONTH AGO and it is still ongoing!!! This is bull shit-- get your shit together papa johns and give me my pizza or my refund.
Why would you eat at a chain restaurant if you live in NYC?? Can never understand those type of people (like the stupid tourists that eat at Applebees, TGI Fridays in Times Square). PLUS, the fact that people from my very own race (Korean) got a racist remark gets me mad and I mean MAD AS F**K. Nobody messes with me or my race, yes I am dominant and ALWAYS right just like Samantha from Sex and the City (not that I've watched the show, I saw the movie though lol) Let them go out of business for God/Buddha/Allah/Mary/Lord's sake!
Ugh, I'm not sure what one should expect when ordering from Papa John's, the fast food of pizza, but it'd be nice to get something at least halfway resembling good customer service, not to mention hot pizza! So, I recently gave in and ordered from them - almost 2 hours later, my pizzas finally arrived - 2 frickin' hours! And, of course, they were ice cold. The delivery guy's response: "Sorry, we're jammed up, man." Um, ok, whatever - I just wish I hadn't pre-tipped with my credit card. After about an hour, I figured the pizza wasn't ever going to arrive, so I started calling the store - after ringing a gazillion times, I got a voicemail message .. so I tried again - this time, whoever answered hung up on me without a word. When I tried again, I got voicemail. At this point, I wanted to cancel my order and get a refund. I'm sorry, but nothing at Papa John's is worth waiting for 2 hours. And the pies being ice cold was just a kick in the balls. I will never order from this crap place again.
I've been in Yelp hibernation for awhile, and tonight's Papa John's experience was the last straw. It wasn't even something at all serious - they forgot my two extra garlic sauces - but given that this has happened two times before and I let it slide (come on, it's just a dollar; not about to hold someone accountable for that), and given that I'd ordered from them earlier in the week and they got my order wrong (I ordered NO CHEESE on my Garden Fresh pizza because dairy and I don't get along that well); AND given the fact that once, they sent me breadsticks that weren't fully COOKED (they were RAW in the inside!), AND given that before that they sent me the entirely wrong pizza, I felt compelled to call them and ask them to bring me my two garlic sauces. Yes, I was THAT person tonight. Did they come back to my place with my garlic sauces? NO. Here is an establishment that does not appreciate the concept of ACCOUNTABILITY. All of these mishaps, plus the fact that this was the location that made the national news for making a derogatory racial comment on a receipt, PLUS the fact that Papa Johns is one of the slimy companies that cut hours of their workers so they wouldn't be required to give them health benefits, amount to a single conclusion against which stands no others: YOU SHOULD NEVER ORDER FROM PAPA JOHN'S IN THE FIRST PLACE. Especially not when we live in freaking New York City and there are hundreds of local pie shops that make a better pizza and are far more appreciative of your patronage. It has taken me far too many bumps on the head to get this point to finally register with my stubborn Midwestern, chain-loving brain that when I feel like breaking my gluten-free diet, I need to truly indulge my tastebuds and my local business-folk as well...which leads me to writing my next review of another place in my 'hood, Coccola, which has truly amazing, gluten-ous, pizza-pies. SCREW YOU, PAPA! Never again. AND I just found an imitation recipe on Pinterest for PJ's garlic sauce, so truly I have no need for you.
It's unfair to judge all Papa John's pizza shops as an ignorant managed business because I do like their pizzas. http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/01/07/lady-chinky-eyes-papa-johns-store-uses-receipt-to-call-woman-racial-slur_n_1191434.html That said, I doubt I'll ever be ordering from that specific upper Manhattan location anytime soon...
1.Screwed up my order and sent the wrong pie... 2.Delivery guy doesn't have change of a 10$ bill for a tip.. 3.Called to speak with manager and was told manager was too busy to get on the phone. I will never order from this place again... Papa Johns needs to clean house at this location
"I love it when you call me big papa" I have never had an issue with this location. Although I am extremely disappointed to hear about the racist remark made at this specific Papa Johns, it doesn't affect the product and service I received in the past. Obviously I order from this location as its the closest. The delivery is always ridiculously fast. Like at my door minutes after I submit my online order. Its great! The staff seems great but I also do not call or walk-in. My order has always been correct, right down to the extra sauces. I also like that I can order it well-done! The cheesy bread is a down right guilty pleasure. Personal fav pizza is grilled chicken (x2), onions, banana peppers, and mushrooms. I've tried the buffalo sauce and I recommend just using your own hot sauce at home. The pizza obvy isnt THE BEST PIZZA IN NY, but if you saw the other options we have up here in Harlem...especially on a lazy night or rainy Sunday... you would be ordering from here too. They usually have some really great deals too. You can also sign up for their rewards program where you earn free pizza and quite quickly too!
After calling twice and some just saying "please holding" and never coming back on...we decided to get food elsewhere..
Don't bother. I could understand eating Papa Johns if you live in Kansas, but here you have plenty of other options serving better pizza at a similar price. La Palma (Amsterdam and 135th) is just blocks away as is the place on 145th and St Nick, both of which have regular-sized pies made with far fewer sketchy ingredients, in-house. Seriously, read the ingredients on that little cup of garlic butter sauce. If you have the choice to order better food from a local small business, why the heck would you order papa john's? for the record, i've had pizza and such from this branch, and it tastes just like the stuff from every other papa john's in the city. If that's what you're craving and pizza-that-tastes-like-pizza isn't going to float your boat, this spot is for you. Be sure to give detailed instructions of your building's location if it's a bit off the street or potentially confusing in any way--their delivery guys were thrown off a few times when friends ordered to CCNY.
Okay, so I understand that the actions of one idiotic employee aren't representative of an entire company, and I respect the decision by Papa John's to fire said employee. But then there are comments like these, made by the manager and assistant manager, that suggest the ignorance at this establishment are more pervasive than the inappropriate jokes of a single teenager: Jerome, the manager: "It's a busy place, and it was a way to identify her and her order," he said. "You know, we do stuff like that sometimes. We'll write 'the lady with the blue eyes' or 'the guy in the green shirt. It's affecting how we work. This is a place of business. I truly don't think it's fair what she did; it's just crazy. I think the lady put it out there just to get some attention -- some people like that type of attention. I truly don't think it's fair. It's been taking up all our time. It's been very disruptive." Assistant manager: "We're all of different races here in this store. So she didn't mean any harm, didn't mean to stereotype against her, to discriminate against her, but that's how she took it." My advice to you is to stay away from this particular Papa John's. You're in New York City, so go find yourself some better pizza from a business that doesn't condone racially derogatory jokes directed towards paying customers.
Pretty tough to like a racist pizza place. With all of the other pizza options out there (including OTHER Pizza John's) why support this place. Disgusting!
So we ordered a pizza tonight. It came with the wrong toppings. We called back were told not to eat the pizza we have, and that in 20 to 30 minutes a replacement would arrive. We waited for about 35-40 minutes, and called back when we saw that they had tried to call back 2 minutes before. They said it would be another 20 minutes. We called back thirty minutes later, since it still wasn't here. The manager Cherise refused to stay on the phone with us, slamming it down and saying "I don't care what she says." as she walked away. This was of course after telling me I was lying and that she never said that two different delivery men would be coming. 2 hours and 15 minutes after the initial order and three delivery men later (and apparently a fourth one who got lost), we had our pizza. It was cold.
They have racist employees, which lets me know full well what they think of their Asian-American customers. Besides, Papa John's has some awful tasting pizza. There's too much inconsistency in quality and flavor between different locations. I can put up with mediocre pizza, but racist employees who think of me in a subhuman fashion? That I can't and will not put up with. I suggestion everyone else avoid this place, especially if you're of Asian descent. Have some pride in who you are and don't put up with such racist treatment.
Poor service is the norm here, but this is crazy: Since the online ordering system was down, I tried to call in an order. After 5-7 times where the phone was picked up/hung up without a greeting, I walked over expecting them to be swamped with business. Instead, there were no pizzas waiting to be made, and my order was turned around in 10 minutes. The young lady taking my order insisted that my request for "1/2 pepperoni, 1/2 sausage" should be charged as 2 toppings rather than one. And while I was there I was surprised to see the employees randomly picking up/hanging up incoming calls without greeting. They seemed to pick up 1 out of every 3 at best. Unbelievable.
Discusting! The worst Papa John's pizza I have ever had. My friend and I were horrified. We were nauseated by the smell and taste. Had to throw it out! Hope I don't have to go to the ER in 12 HRS.
I dunno about the previous review. However, with my first order with these folks they didn't botch my order. I usually use a credit card, but now, I think, I'll opt for cash if I order beverages just in case they try to pull a switch. I subscribe to their weekly specials, so they send a weekly code that gets you some deal at a much lower price. I pretty much only order pizza with a with a discount as I just think it's overpriced. My pizza was very good. The diet Coke I ordered was delivered with no problem. In fact, I'm ordering again right now online and that reminded me to write a review. It's below freezing outside. Their delivery is free and their The Meats pizza is consistently good. I changed up tonight's order and went for The Works as I have a special on a large specialty pizza. I changed the toppings. It got to my door in around 40 minutes and had all the toppings I ordered. For what they provide, it's my first delivery choice for pizza in this area. I'd rather take a chance with a chain. Their topping pizzas are good and they get them to you nice and warm. I think it's best you get online and see how others have ranked their pizzas and choose based on that.
When I was younger, I loved Papa Johns. What was I thinking? Last night I decided to save a little dough (hahah!) by staying in and having a pizza-movie night with a friend. I ordered online a large double-cheese pizza with cheesy bread and two 20 oz sodas (1 diet, 1 regular). The delivery guy came to my door and told me (in an extremely thick Spanish accent) "...sorry we only have sprite." Needless to say I ALREADY paid on my credit card and they couldn't refund the $2 they fracking charged me. I explained the situation to the delivery guy -- he kept repeating "...only sprite," like it was the only thing he knew how to say. That royally pissed me off. I ordered an all-wheat crust (which tasted horrible) and the pizza was rubbery and overpriced for what it was -- $25! I will NEVER order from this place again.
