Well, Gabriel M. thinks this parish church (I imagine he meant the building) needs an overhaul;
Well, it's had that overhaul ... and it's gorgeous!!
The complete re-doing of the sacristy area is only part of it, but all of the church now looks fresh, clean, modern and inviting. Thanks to the many parishioners who donated the funds to have this expensive overhaul done.
As for the community there ... the members of this parish? They are the most welcoming and warm folks I have encountered here in San Diego's Catholic parishes. And the annual events, like the Fall carnival and many many others, are the best ! I don't live in the parish boundaries any longer but I drive the 25 miles to this wonderful parish every Sunday and other occasions.Helpful 5Thanks 0Love this 2Oh no 0 - Gabriel M.San Diego, CA4921194Mar 28, 2009First to Review
Nice church...aside from the uncomfortable seats, crowded pews, and the chaotic race of the Catholics after every mass. I used to joke around that someone was gonna get nailed trying to scurry out of that parking lot...it was funny, until i heard it happened one year.
I am sure it offers many services, But I can't recall any fond memories, but then again I'm not religious. But I go with friends on occasion, for their support.
It just seems like it needs an over haul to say the least.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 3Oh no 0 - Kate H.San Diego, CA7514Sep 11, 2014
The acoustics take a little getting used to, but the church itself is pretty. The pews are wooden, but perhaps that's why we Catholics always get up, stand up, kneel, sit down, and mix it all up? Even when I was having some unrelated back pain, the pews never bothered me when I went to Mass.
Sunday morning Masses can be rather crowded, but there is ample parking, and it's not so crowded inside that it becomes difficult to move or anything. Just gets a bit loud, perhaps. The music leans toward the contemporary side, which at first I did not like, but have grown accustomed to. Also, I personally prefer the Sunday evening Mass, partly because it usually seems a little less crowded, and partly because there are different people playing music. They usually do some praise songs after Mass, too.
I didn't like this place at first because I had just moved to Lakeside, and I just missed my old parish, but everyone has been kind and welcoming. Of course there are many of the silver hair crowd, but there are actually some younger people too -- a feature that's pretty lacking at some churches I've visited! I'm 25, so maybe that's why I noticed.
Hm, what else? There's an informative parish bulletin every Sunday, daily Mass... I'm still pretty new, but I expect this to remain my church home for as long as I live in Lakeside. Oh! One more thing, I think the acoustics take a little getting used to. There are two priests (right now anyway), one of whom speaks pretty standard American English, and the other with a thick accent (Vietnamese? I'm not certain). The first few Masses I went to, I couldn't really even understand the American priest, let alone the Asian one. I must've acclimated though, because now I don't have a problem.
I like this place, and I would invite anybody who lives in the area to come. I wish I could invite some of my friends in San Diego, but the drive would be a bit crazy for them! They can always go to Ascension or one of the other lovely parishes down there...Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 2Oh no 0 - Ashley M.Lakeside, CA17110Jan 22, 2014
When my grandfather passed we held his memorial services her and all of the sisters did everything for us. They were so organized and helpful. It made the entire set up and organizing stress free

Good Friday, no flowers on the alter, very drab on this beautiful day. seats very uncomfortable. No holy water at the entrances. I had a hard time understanding the priest's english. I did not feel that I was in the house of GOD.

Excellent group of people! Really, you will feel at home immediately :)....The love and prayers and community within this parish is very special. Also, the church just had a "facelift" ...absolutely beautiful! Fr. Ron & Fr. Joe are like family and so our the members here. Great group of people that treat you like family!
