My AARP Medicare prescription program uses OptumRX as the mail-in pharmacy. What a disaster! When I first started with them my doctor electronically sent in the order for all 6 of my meds. Optum claimed that they had not received 2 of the 6 prescriptions. It took 10 days of daily phone calls and my doctor having to resend the prescriptions to straighten out the mess. Now I have 6 routine meds that have different renewal dates. Jeesh!
Today I called to reorder my medications and they told me I still had a $90 outstanding balance from my April order. I said "uh-uh"--I mail in payment by check within 24 hours of receiving the meds and the invoice. I checked my bank statement and it shows that I wrote the check on April 7 and it cleared my credit union on April 13. They then told me that I had to obtain the front and back of the cancelled check and fax it to them. I told them I don't have a fax machine and they told me to go to Officemax. I contacted the credit union as soon as they opened and they emailed me the photocopy of the front and back of the cancelled check and I printed it out and put the information about my OptumRX account on the page and went to Officemax and paid to have them fax it to them.
So let me get this straight. They cashed my check, did not post it to my account, and I am the one that has to hassle with my credit union to obtain the check, get in my car (on a 109 degree day) and use my gas to drive to an Officemax and pay them to fax the document. I am so NOT a fan of mail in pharmacy programs.Helpful 7Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Nov 20, 2023
For close to three years, my father had this service due to a change in insurance coverage. We were very pleased how the RX mail service worked. There was a time something did not get mailed, and they mailed it very quickly once I placed a call. I think the mishap was due to the med being new, and dad failed to have it set up as recurring. His pharmacy was 22 miles away, so finally getting his meds via mail was outstanding.
I was compelled to write this review after dealing with Laura, a customer service rep. Dad recently passed, and I spent my morning making business calls on his behalf. Laura with Optum RX was just so sweet and respectful. She seemed to have genuine empathy for me and my situation.
I appreciated her compassion and being so personable when I truly needed a friendly voice on the phone.Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 2Oh no 1 - Alexis K.Milwaukee, WI04Apr 5, 2024
This pharmacy is beyond inefficient. The amount of text messages, email, and phone calls need to fill ONE prescription is insane. I've had to make contact or go on the webpage 10+ times over the period of 4 days. and now the are monopolizing my prescriptions because of my insurance plan.
ex. they call me asking me information. then when I go to check on my prescription status the information that I sat with the respective isn't even filled out.
My co-pay card did not go through. NO ONE reached out to me to let me know a payment was needed, no text, no email, no phone call. So my prescription was delayed even longer.
All my information good ready to go but it's Friday (what ever the hell that means, good to know illnesses, diseases, etc keep business hours) so my prescription will not be shipped until Monday.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Storm A.San Francisco, CA03Apr 3, 2024
I had a life change and now have Medi-cal. Called to get 2 medications refilled. Agent says they don't accept Medi-cal - Contrary to their website. Ok, this could be training or intellectual issue with the agent.
When I asked about paying out of pocket, I received pricing that was astronomical for generic medications (which I know the real pricing). 90 day support for one GENERIC was over $900. The other medication they wanted $88 for 3 months.
Transferred and ordered from Amazon Pharacy - Both out of pocket generics for 90 day support was $34.
What a disgrace of a "pharmacy".Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - J N.CA, CA0252Jan 15, 2024
This is a pharmacy that UMR makes us go thru to fill our long term drugs and usually get a 90 day supply.
Every month I get a call telling me that they Do Not Have the Medication to fill the order and they ask you if you want them to put you on a waiting list?
Is Optum not buying the right quantities to fulfill orders?
Why not extend my lead times to accommodate this ongoing problem?
I have never had this happen with CVS pharmacy.
You have been warned.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Apr 16, 2024
The absolute worst mail order pharmacy! If your employer requires you use Optum RX I strongly suggest you run! The right hand doesn't know what the left hand is doing. I have been transferred to 6 different people and my prescription is still not resolved! Onthe phone for over an hour...no resolution in sight!

Too bad I can't rate them ZERO. Worst pharmacy to deal with. Use them because they are on my medical insurance plan. There is always an excuse why the order or billing went wrong. I can't believe management does nothing to correct the issues.

This is the worst pharmacy. They text and call and don't know anything. I've been waiting over 2 weeks for my prescription that I've been getting since January. This is such a shame that these companies can do this

I've used OptumRX for a while now, and had no problems for a while, until my doctor added a new medicine.
OptumRX notified me by email that it had received the prescription, was processing it and would "contact you if there are any issues". Nothing more heard, but over a week later I logged on to my UHC account and saw that the prescription had been cancelled by OptumRX and that I should contact them if I had questions. If I hadn't gone onto UHC, I wouldn't have known the prescription had been cancelled.
Called them up at the number that I was told to, only to be told "we don't handle that here, lemme transfer you" (in which case why was that listed as the 'contact us at this number..." number) ? Had a hard time hearing anything other than the 4 or 5 other call center people in the (very loud) background, but was eventually told that the issue was fixed - but without them being able to explain what the issue was in the first place. My prescription would arrive shortly, I was told... even got another email saying "we got your prescription, and will contact you if there are any issues"...
Another week later, logged into UHC again, and AGAIN see the order is cancelled. Used online chat to ask what's up and they said "we are only able to send you 6 tablets per month, of this DAILY medication". Never mind that 'daily' is even in the name of the medicine.
I asked why they didn't contact me as they said they would if they had any issues ... no explanation was forthcoming. Had my doctor send my prescription to Amazon Pharmacy instead, and the meds were sent out immediately.
I won't blame any pharmacy for not filling a prescription if the insurance co causes problems etc., but when they clearly tell you they WILL contact you in the event of any issues, and instead just 'ghost' you - that's just disgusting.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Felix G.Staten Island, NY272539Mar 19, 2024
THE WORST pharmacy experience I have ever had. My MD sent a prescription to them. They received it, the order status was "processing". Then they just cancelled the order, and marked it "Cancelled: requested by you". Well, I did not request the cancellation, so they lied. Also, there were no communications or order updates from them. They just cancelled the order for a vital prescription and lied about it.
