RIP ... first opened in 1942, 75 years is quite a run.
I need to find a new spot for classic sliders and coneys that is close to home. Hippos is great, but it is a bit to far.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0Aug 8, 2016Previous reviewA breakfast & burger/slider restaurant opened in 1944 (another name) ... they must be doing something right. Specifically; they are doing breakfast and lunch right. This is a small shoe box operation - think Brayz or Green's.
For me, OGS is all about their bag-of-sliders (5) to-go special. Good, basic diner food done right and quickly. Hot food, hot. Cold food, cold. I also appreciate their attention to cleanliness.
The staff is friendly and attentive, and they know their regulars and us not-so-regulars. - Chris M.Royal Oak, MI467452987Jan 26, 2017
Second time here. Staff are coney island friendly. Meaning that somehow they can chat and still get all of their food to the tables.
Simple menu and cheap prices. 3.95 for 2 eggs, hash browns, toast, and huge sausage links.
I guess I'm done writing. My food is here and I'm hungry.Helpful 3Thanks 0Love this 2Oh no 0 - Jan 18, 2014
I've passed the Grub Station for years and never went in. Today, I finally decided to go there.
It is tiny, but the seating is good enough that you're not sitting on top of anyone else. I barely sat down & was greeted & asked what I wanted to drink. I picked up a menu (which was rather dirty) and perused the selections. Nothing outstanding, but certainly good enough. When the waitress brought my coffee, she asked if I was ready. I ordered a mushroom & Swiss omelette. Before it even came, another wait person asked if I wanted more coffee. I didn't at that time, but I did have to ask for Sweet n Low because there wasn't any on the table. Before she even got back with the sweetener, my coffee was refilled and it was only a couple more minutes before my meal came.
The food wasn't "exciting", but the omelette was generously stuffed with large mushrooms & cheese. The rye toast was ok, and they brought 2 packets of jelly; it wasn't just on the table like at most places. I rather like fishing through the jelly towers for the ones I want, so that was a little disappointing. The food was ok -- not outstanding, but not bad, either.
The staff was very friendly. Everyone who walked by asked if I wanted more coffee and how things were. The prices are reasonable, too. I do think I will be back.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Jennifer W.Auburn Hills, MI575Apr 7, 2011
I knew it. I knew if I passed by the Bronx Deli, I'd find a dive close by serving up diner delights worthy of my praise.
Did I ever! This tiny dive had shining stainless steel and friendly servers, and food worthy of talking about.
Went with the "required" coney dog special. Delicious! We also tried the "just homemade" chicken noodle soup. It was almost as good as Mom's. There were a table of college guys sitting next to us, commenting to the server once, twice, three times about the great soup.
I would have given this little delight five stars if I wouldn't have overheard the owner yelling at the top of his lungs to a server for asking a question about the credit card machine and telephone lines. That interaction was uncalled for and a few guests actually left during the exchange.
All in all, fun dive experience worth having.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Andrew K.Rochester, MI33Feb 8, 2015
Great food and service. I've been here for breakfast a few times, and it's been fantastic every time. The coffee is great, plentiful, and always fresh. Service is so good, I've never seen the bottom of the coffee mug. Prices are lower than expected, which is nice. I would highly recommend it to anyone in the area.
The only caveat is that its a bit small inside, so it may be difficult to bring groups of more than six or seven.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Kimberly B.Pontiac, MI02414Nov 12, 2016
Great Service! We had spinach and feta omelet and country omelet both were very good. This is the kind of place that has a bunch of regulars, the waitress seemed to know almost everyone in there. Customer's are well taken care of.

This dirty spoon just got washed! They added some electric paint and lit up some new and improved top notch grub. They serve a variety one expects from a greasy spoon lunch counter with some gems. The Juicy Lucy burger will not disappoint - two patties stuffed with cheese and grilled onions. The breakfasts offer great omelets, fresh sliced hash browns, and out of this world grits.

As good as it gets for a breakfast & lunch diner.

My favorite diner around- blows any Coney Island (besides maybe Lafayette) out of the water. Has a great atmosphere with very friendly staff. I usually come for the generously sized breakfast plates (at a great price too!) but am also a big fan of their sliders- which are without a doubt better than those served at hunter house. In my opinion this is because the meat is higher quality and they do a better job of balancing the grease to burger ratio. Will continue to dine here as I have not once been disappointed.
