Do you serve pork souvlaki? Why do no Greek restaurants in SD offer it? In Greece, there is no "beef" souvlaki.
A:
Hi Arlene, Pork is most traditional in Greece, I think it's mostly due to preferences here that you see pork less often in Greek restaurants in the United States (San… more

This is our go-to place hands down! We found this gem not too long ago and since then we have been here 5 times!! We bring all our friend to hang out.
Very authentic Mediterranean food. It's like visiting someone's home in Greece! Â The ambiance itself is like being in a Mediterranean cafe.
I recommend the Saganaki to start off with for the authentic Greek experience. Â My favorite dish is the Gyro and Chicken Kabob. My husband's the House Specialty, the potatoes that come as a side are delicious!! Â Large portions, great prices.
The wait staff is very knowledgeable in recommendations especially wine pairing. Â Our waiter hit it each time.
This place is the best kept secret! - 73771124/20/2023
Good food for a great price. It's a cute little spot but the parking lot is small. You can typically find parking in the neighborhood though. The staff are friendly and they make you feel very welcome.
Their chicken was not dry and their gyro was delicious. They offer a nice portion and it was not ridiculously priced. I would definitely come back. - Lior D.Los Angeles, CA666133/27/2023
Great tasting food right in North Park, San Diego!
Had their combo Greek plate that was delicious with large portions.
Also got a side of hummus to taste which ended up being tasty.
The place was busy when I was there on a Friday at 3 pm, though all the people were sitting outside in the patio, inside there were still plenty of tables.
Great place, with authentic flavors. Give it a shot if you are in the area! - 19796195/20/2023Updated review
Olympic cafe has consistently been one of our favorite restaurants for several years. We order to-go at least once a week. My new favorite hands down is the chicken kabab salad! I crave it daily. It has warm juicy chicken, grilled onion and bell pepper, crisp cucumber, tomatoes, feta, delicious dressing and dipping sauces, pita on the side. Where has this salad been my whole life?! Â The best!!
11/25/2019Previous reviewOlympic Cafe has the best Greek food I've ever had. The ambiance of the restaurant is cozy and authentic. The service is usually a little slow so don't sit down if you're in a hurry, order it in advance and get it to go. The food is so delicious. I always order the half chicken- the meat literally melts off the bone. It's nicely seasoned and juicy. It comes with your choice of side- I always get mashed potatoes with the lemony gravy. The pita is awesome. The spicy feta as an appetizer is a must, we like to get half pita half veggies for dipping. The side salad is great with delish fresh veggies, feta cheese, awesome dressing. When i don't get the half chicken i usually get the gyro which is equally as amazing. My husband always gets the chicken kebab plate which he loves. We usually have enough leftovers for the next day because the meals come with so much food. Can't recommend this place enough! It's one of our staple spots. Always a treat.

I rarely give 5 stars, so this definitely says something about Olympic Cafe. My husband and daughter had come on his previous visit to San Diego. He told me about this new place they went to and raved about the food. Upon our visit this weekend, she suggested we go there. The only issue is the lack of parking. We drove around the block 3 times before finding a spot across the street. We were seated immediately. All the staff that we encountered were so friendly. We didn't wait long before our drink order was taken and then soon after our order. My daughter had said the platter was so big, it was easily shareable, which was perfect. We ordered the calamari appetizer which was so crispy and delicious. My husband had the Greek sausage and chicken platter, dubbing the rice for the Greek peas. My daughter and I shared the chicken and beef platter. Both came with Greek salad and pita bread. Everything was delicious and expertly seasoned. The chicken and beef were tender as well. The pita was soft and cut into small triangles, making it easier to eat. My husband shared some of his sausage and it was cooked perfectly, browned nicely which added a crispy outer casing. Needless to say we all cleaned our plates. While dining, we noticed all the empty glass domed cake plates. All the desserts were gone except one. We asked about the desserts available and they had New York Cheesecake and Baklava. We ordered the cheesecake to share and it was the best cheesecake I've ever eaten. It was rich, yet light. The graham cracker crust was tender and complemented the cheesecake. The ratio of crust to the filling was great as well. Sometimes there is a thick, hard crust. When the cheesecake was brought to our table, my husband asked what desserts were not available. There were a couple of Greek desserts as well as cookies, lemon bar, and brownie which we learned were all in-house made. I'm sure based on the cheesecake, they're all delicious as well.
The decor is charming and gives an old world feel. They have a large closed patio as well as a few outdoor tables. There is a warm, cozy vibe. We're looking forward to a return visit on our next trip to San Diego. - Debby H.San Diego, CA4649455/20/2023
Wow! Unbelievably delicious! We learned about this long standing restaurant recently and knew we had to try it. There were four of us dining. We started with Greek beer and a bottle of white Greek wine...and paired it with their homemade hummus and calamari as recommended by Zoey, who was our fabulous waitress! For entrees we had combination plates of Gyro, chicken and beef kabobs, Greek sausage, spanakopita...and their salad with to die for feta on top! Everything was cooked to perfection and delicious! Then we got to the dessert -- wowsa!the homemade cheesecake. We honestly have never had cheesecake this good...ever! We will definitely be coming back...and highly recommend the Olympic Cafe!

A buddy of mine brought me here a couple of years ago and I've been wanting to come back for the longest time, so I brought my wife here, she's not a big Greek or Mediterranean food lover, but she did love all the food we had. Â
Donna one of the owners bakes all the desserts and may I say she is an amazing baker. Â I actually did come back here, but just to buy a whole cheesecake, so I guess I won't have to tell you that it's the most amazing cheesecake that I've ever had!!! Â Beyond the great food, inside the atmosphere is very Mediterranean-cozy and the patio is just as nice! Â Lastly the service is equally amazing! - 291686084/29/2023
Olympic cafe has never disappointed me. They consistently serve very good food and the prices are reasonable. They have great service and it's never too crowded. We came here very often and don't expect to stop.

Has been eyeing this spot for awhile and finally went after a Greek friend of ours said it was one of the better Greek restaurants in SD. We have not found a lot of Greek places we felt were great, so we had to try it.
Went fairly early on a Saturday, and the inside was already full. We sat outside, and while even though the weather was cold, their heaters kept it super warm. Our server came right over and was very friendly. We started with the saganaki, which of course was lit on fire at our tableside. Delicious and a must! They have a good Greek wine selection, as well as other wines if you don't want Greek. I had the Assyrtiko, and it light and crisp.
For my main dish, I ordered the spanakopita and chicken combination platter. First, the platters come with a ton of food - great value. Second, everything was great. Loved the generous feta with the salad. The chicken was tender, and while I haven't had a lot of spanakopita, this was as good as any I have had.
Overall, we would definitely return. If you come at a busy weekend night, be ready to wait; however, service is fast and friendly. Glad we finally stopped by! - 6531883135831/12/2023
We had lunch recently at Olympic Cafe to compare their Greek cuisine to another place. This eatery does not have much on-site parking as there were spaces adjacent to the building, but most of them were marked for the Mexican joint next door. You are better off looking for a curbside spot on a side street to University Ave.
I read the owners were given some funds through the city's Storefront Improvement Program to improve the curb appeal of the restaurant. The upgrades made a difference as we sat in a covered outside patio area that did not reflect its original setup from the 1980s. The two-page menu was filled with casual Greek food items. It was noticeable how less expensive the prices were versus the other spot we dined at before the holidays.
I selected one of the Combination Platters with Gyro & Beef Kabob as the skewered proteins. The plate was served with rice pilaf, Greek salad, and pita bread. Normally, feta cheese is provided as crumbles for a Greek salad. Here the feta was in the form of a rectangular slice that was smooth and creamy. Pork was used instead of lamb for the gyro skewer. The kitchen did a nice job of cooking the meats without making them too dry.
For the amount of food on the platter, the value was very good at less than $20. Our dining experience at Olympic Cafe was at a four-star level and a notch above that of the now-defunct competitor.
