Today marked my inaugural visit to the establishment. Situated conveniently near my workplace at the Department of Technology, I was greeted upon arrival by a gentleman depicted in one of the photographs. His polite and cheerful demeanor set a welcoming tone as we engaged in small talk and exchanged pleasantries. Throughout our interaction, he appeared genuinely content. The coffee surpassed my expectations, although I lamented the absence of 2% or non-fat milk options; instead, they offered whole milk, oat milk, or almond milk.
The establishment also boasted an impressive selection of food options, and I noted the aroma of freshly roasted beans in the air. Regrettably, my schedule today was tight, leaving me unable to fully explore all they had to offer. Nonetheless, I look forward to returning to indulge in their other offerings. Discovering such a hidden gem in close proximity to my workplace was a delightful surprise, albeit one that may lead to some indulgent spending in the future!Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - 63105279Mar 16, 2024
Favorite coffee in Sac so far.
Lattes are good. Mocha has more of a bitter chocolate flavor that I prefer. I don't like them overly sweet. Ice coffee is bold!
I bring bags of the coffee to my sister in the Bay Area and it is her favorite! She now orders their 5 lb bags online to ship to her. It is actually a very reasonable deal!
Only thing is the staff isn't super friendly. There are times they don't even look at you when you place your order. I e been to the alley location and they have been pretty friendly. Just this location seems to be off.Helpful 2Thanks 2Love this 2Oh no 0 - 136291260Jan 20, 2024
While waiting on a table for brunch at a nearby restaurant, I dropped in to Old Soul to grab a cup of coffee. I ended up ordering an Americano, which was solid. Prices on the menu were about average and comparable to other coffee shops.
They also serve food here, so maybe next time I'll give that a try.
The space inside is large with lots of seating, so I imagine it would be a great place to catch up with friends.
Overall:
If I'm in the area, I'd definitely drop by again.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Ralph C.Downtown, Sacramento, CA06Apr 20, 2024
Food is fantastic, but the girls they have working on the weekend are dead faced and off putting. They look annoyed.
I wish the guy from the weekdays was here.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Banks M.Sacramento, CA02813Mar 28, 2024

They used to have the best cappuccinos with the silkiest foam on top like you would see on a beautiful latte with the latte art, but now it is just one of those giant foam places. The coffee is still strong and the space is still great for people to study, but I was so disappointed on my most recent visit.

Your cappuccino really came out looking like that?! I literally can't believe it.
Mar 5, 2019Previous reviewMy favorite, most consistent cappuccino in Sacramento is found here at Old Soul. Even though I have not been here for awhile, the cappuccino I ordered was as good as I remembered. My recent visit reminded me why I used to come here every week after the Sunday farmers market in midtown. As much as I like to venture out and try new places, this is the place I compare all my cappuccinos with. I ask myself, " Is it better than Old Soul?" A couple times I have found some comparable or rarely better caps, but good beans come and go. When a single origin of my favorite from another coffee roaster runs out and the new beans come in, I find myself back here.

Cool place. It's not off the main streets. The entrance is in the alley. Staff was nice. Cool ambience. There's a few tables inside but during the busy hours it may be hard to find a place to sit.
Tomato bisque was good and comforting. Granola with yogurt was nice and light. My toddler enjoyed it. The carnitas sandwich had some good flavor and was real hearty. The BLT sandwich and salad definitely hit the spot for a BLT.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Jun 2, 2023
We were in town on Memorial Day and many breakfast/brunch options were closed. Old Soul was open and hit the spot!
This original location of Old Soul is housed in an old warehouse, tucked down an alley, but there's plenty of signage pointing you to it.
They offer a variety of coffees and teas, as well as baked goods, sandwiches, salads, and more. I love that they roast their own coffee beans, source local products, and bake their own breads and treats in house!
They had something for everyone in our group, including a gluten-free friend and a plant-based friend.
I ordered an iced latte and an English Muffin Bacon breakfast sandwich and really enjoyed both:
-Honey-Cured Bacon, Avocado Spread, Red Onion, Roma Tomato, White Cheddar, Vega Farm Fresh Folded Egg on our House-Made English Muffin
I appreciated all the goodness in this sandwich, and that it was still easy to handle and eat (not overwhelmingly stuffed). It satisfied my hunger and didn't overly stuff me!
Friends enjoyed the Chicken Citrus Salad, Chicken Caesar Salad, iced tea, and lavender lemonade. The salads were pretty substantial.
We found indoor seats. There are ample seating options inside, as well as a few bistro tables outside. Or, take your treats to enjoy in Capitol Park nearby!Helpful 13Thanks 1Love this 13Oh no 1 - 666135418431May 25, 2023Updated review
I totally agree with Yelper Isabel M. I also can't recommend the smoked salmon bagel. It is overpriced at $15, lacking flavor, and the deconstructed version made the bagel difficult to eat.
I expected a whole bagel. When I opened my to go box, what I got was a deconstructed version of a bagel sandwich with only half a bagel. It was layered with cream cheese, thin see through through slices of tomatoes, chopped up crumbly pieces of dry smoked salmon, and alfalfa sprouts. There was no way to pick up this bagel version without the toppings falling off. I knifed and forked it. It was also super dry and the flavors just didn't jive with each other. It was disappointing In many ways. Let me count the ways: this sucker cost $15, the flavors of each ingredients didn't pair well with each other, the chopped to oblivion texture of the salmon was strange, it was very dry, and difficult to cut into even with the provided plastic knife and fork. As I was cutting, all the ingredients was slipping and sliding off the bagel.
I'm not saying don't go to Old Soul. Please do ... they have kick a$& fresh roasted coffee and other food items. The shop is a super chill one of a kind place to relax, visit with buds, or hang solo to do some work.Helpful 35Thanks 5Love this 30Oh no 0Jul 23, 2022Previous reviewI dropped on in mid-afternoon on a recent week day. I was in the area. I was hungry and on the search for a quick caffeine boost and something to nosh on. So off I go to Old Soul.
The pandemic hit a lot of businesses around midtown pretty hard. Many closed shop. But Old Soul is still standing. Old Soul has different locations but this one is the original. It all started here in 2006, they started off as a roaster then opened retail. The shop is in the alley.
Once you walk, your senses will perk up. All for the good. The smell of the roasting coffee will hit your noise, the funky design aesthetics and local artists artwork will catch your eyes, and the dim chatter of the folks inside and mild hum of the espresso machines and roasting equipment will perk up your ears. It is lively but in a calm relaxed way.
The coffee menu is extensive. The coffee taste amazing! They have different blends. They have some creative creations. On my recent visit, per the barista's recommendation, I bought an iced vanilla pistachio oat latte. It was creamy and vanilla tasting. But my favorites is just plain coffee and the iced mocha made with whole milk. I also bought a pastry. It was delicious. The cashier and barista were a hoot. Sassy fun personalities.
They even have hot food items and pastries. Breakfast and lunch/dinner menu items. The drink and food prices are on the high end though but definitely on par with other local coffee joints. The hours are 6am-6pm. But with the darn virus, I recommend calling ahead before you make a special trip out there to confirm the hours.
Plus keep in mind they are located in midtown. So If street parking is not your thing, than park in the pay lot next to the shop. The pay machine takes card payment and cash. The entry to the lot is on L Street.Sep 21, 2018Previous reviewOld Soul drains my patience and soul. Not hip to bump me down and make me wait longer than the customers after me especially after I waited patiently for the dude to make 2 lattes and 2 hot chocolates for the family that walked in the joint the same time as me. No waiting for them. He made me wait to take my order after he made their drinks. Which I was cool with.
But after taking my order, he goes on to take the orders of the two people behind me in line. So I wait longer. He makes their 2 iced coffees and sends them on their way. Then onto making my hot drink. All of our drinks were to go. When I asked him about the service protocol, he says he was trained to serve all iced drinks first...they are not suppose to wait. Huh!?! I suppose Old Soul is in a position to forgo some moola. Ok. Burn notice on. My soul needs a break from this over hipped/hyped place. - Jun 3, 2023
Coffee here is great! However I would skip out on the food and head somewhere else. I usually come here for the coffee but this time my husband and I stopped by and ate . I ordered the pizza margarita and my husband ordered the chicken pesto sandwich. He wasn't a fan because the arugula was too bitter for him. I like the pizza because it filled me up just right (although it looked big, the thin crust helped).
Overall I say the ambiance was nice and friendly. Staff here is amazing.
Would recommend to come here and try their coffee because it's outstanding.Helpful 3Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0
