Question:
Do they have Gluten-Free soy sauce?
Answer:
Yes, the waiter seemed very knowledgeable about other gluten-free modifications that would need to be made to various menu items.

Another place in Santee I have been meaning to try. Did not even know this place was right around the Lucky Chinese Restaurant. When you come in you wait to be seated which didn't take too long - maybe 5 minutes. We did have to ask to be moved to a different table because the table was very wobbly. They even knew since they had cardboard on the foot of the table to keep it stabilized. Ish didn't work for us tho. Also, I hate being seated in a those tiny two person table. There is never enough room for all the plates you order.
Service was ok. I asked the server if she had any recommendation since we have never been and when she leaned to get a closer look at the menu and began to speak...her breath was no bueno. It made for an awkward situation since I literally had to back away. Tim and I ended up just figuring things out for ourselves. We ordered Soft Crab Shell and Tuna Tataki for apps. Both were so delish and the tuna was fresh. Then we had the Tiger Roll and Stinky Roll. Yea should have known by its name "stinky roll" that it won't be good LOL jk! It was ok. There was something on it that our taste bud weren't liking. The Tiger roll was so good tho! I could eat this roll all by myself. Everything else was tasty - I mean 3 out of 4 dishes were great, but the price was a bit much.
Will we be back? Maybe to try the teppanyaki. - Contessa S.San Diego, CA375 friends115 reviews54 photos
11/26/2019Such a hidden sushi gem!
Incredibly unique, flavorful rolls - the Tomo is my personal favorite, filled with mango and salmon and topped with seared fish, avocado & masago (fish roe)... has a smoky taste with a hint of crunch and sweetness from the mango. I've never had anything like it.
Also some low carb options wrapped in cucumber - and they let me replace the rice in a hand roll with cucumber, which was nice. Specialty rolls can be a bit saucy, but I like it that way.
They were once out of beer on my awkward first date... however, sober small talk is significantly more tolerable with exceptional sushi!!
I've also gone for the hibachi & I found it it be Benihana-level quality & entertainment.
Highly recommend this place for dates, parties and sushi cravings! - A. Leona H.San Diego, CA
10/28/2019Came here with friends on a weekend on their recommendation and this place was packed. We got seated pretty quickly though. I felt like the restaurant was really cramped for a hibachi restaurant and there wasn't a good amount of space for how many grills and chairs they have.
I ordered my usual at a hibachi restaurant- filet mignon and shrimp. Others in my party got chicken and sushi. The sushi looked small for the price, everything was super thinly sliced. I personally would not get sushi here, for what you get it's not worth the price. The food was ok, nothing super memorable.
The chef threw food into everybody's mouths. I asked to not participate and he threw it anyway into my face and it landed on my clothes, then the floor. I was incredibly upset having food thrown on me. I do speak mandarin and told him he was crazy for doing that. They pretty much just ignored me. I find it ridiculous that they don't respect your decision to not catch food or get food thrown at you. Who enjoys catching food like an animal?! And I feel like they're being spiteful when you say no, but they do it anyway. How is that ok?
Also, I understand mandarin and I noticed most of the staff and chefs spoke Chinese, so they were not Japanese. Idk, it just seemed like an overpriced Japanese inspired Chinese restaurant. Not really the vibe I go for when I go to hibachi.
I believe this restaurant does well for the demographic of Santee but if you have been to actual hibachi restaurants and eat Japanese food on a regular basis, this place is definitely not on par. - Uracha Y.Murrieta, CA143 friends62 reviews280 photos

Could it be true? A 5 star sushi restaurant in Santee? YES IT IS!! This is my second time coming here this week.
The first time I came for sushi to go and when I walked in the nice lady knew I was there for my Togo order and helped me out immediately.
I got home and ate my sushi and it was phenomenal!! And normally sushi doesn't taste as good outside the restaurant.
The second time I came to sit down. My roll came out in less than 5 minutes of ordering, my water glass was never empty, and my food was on point! The service was so nice and I can't wait to become a regular! - Andrew H.San Diego, CA

I've been coming here now and then with colleagues for several years now. This place never fails! Always consistent, delicious and the service is always wonderful.
Hats off to the team over there. My personal favorite is the filet mignon and shrimp. There's a sushi bar, dining section and the hibatchi section. All are great! Just depends on what kind of experience you're going for. - Bren C.Lakeside, CA0 friends36 reviews17 photos
1/18/2020Fried rice, is ON POINT. we live This place. We've ordered multiple times and never a disappointment. Gets a little busy, and warm inside. But the quality of the food makes up for it all. Everyone is so attentive and polite. Thank you so much for your customer service.

3/22/2019I have to demote to 3 stars, and I'm so sad to do that! This is BY FAR the best sushi in Santee. And they have an awesome hibachi dinner! I don't know what happened, but they've started charging full price ($12 - $13 per specialty roll) for rolls that are a fraction of the rolls at comparable Japanese restaurants. The fish is sliced paper thin, the rolls are about as thick as a Cuban cigar, and an entire roll could fit in the palm of your hand. I noticed this a while back and thought it was a fluke...but this seems to be the standard. They're good...but they short change you on the sushi rolls. I probably won't go back if this continues. Bummer for Santee!!
(By the way...those 2 tiny rolls that fit in the palm of my hand cost me $26. Yikes) - Christian M.San Diego, CA105 friends84 reviews21 photos
9/18/2019My wife and I came for date night and it was such a great experience. The chefs are engaging and very skilled. Blows the big teppanyaki spots out of the water. We were seated with a family and it was fun to share dinner with them.
Alea was not our server but saw we had some needs and was extremely attentive to us despite not taking our order. Our waitress didn't really come by at all actually, and she tried to take our order moments after we were seated because the family was ordering. Alea noticed she didn't put our wine on ice and came over and got it chilled for us.
Food was cooked exquisitely. And it was just refreshing to have attentive service from staff members that were not going to benefit from serving us tip wise. - Mia M.Santee, CA4 friends19 reviews6 photos
10/22/2019Honestly, one of my favorite places to eat. I love, love it here. I can't get enough of the yum yum sauce lol
My usual go to is the steak and chicken dinner soo good. The MISO soup is what keeps bringing me back - Linda S.El Cajon, CA0 friends10 reviews3 photos
8/18/2019Some awesome sushi, good service, but I felt like the food was overall a bit overpriced!

11/30/2019My favourite Sushi place in the El Cajon/Santee area (second is Domo Sushi across the street). Always yummy and fresh. Even though the staff are quiet and straight to the point, they really do have a sense of humor. I've ordered the same dish a few times and it's always fun seeing how it will be decorated every time. Bomb gyoza here.

12/20/2019Very fresh and delicious! I had the Poke salad and seared albacore roll. Both were great! I asked that the poke go on seaweed salad and it was really yummy!! Thank you for serving fabulous food!!!

11/9/2019Great atmosphere and amazing chef's make the perfect dining experience. Seven people in our party we all left full. Our guest appreciated the whole experience. From the moment we arrived the staff welcomed us and we were seated expeditiously at our table. Making reservations ahead of time made for even faster service. From the hostess, waitress, and chef it was one of my top three restaurants to visit.

6/5/2019Okay, gotta rave about this place.
I've been a couple times before, and decided to have a birthday dinner tonight with some friends (Party of 8).
After a couple cancellations, we were a party of 6, which I let them know about a couple hours before my scheduled reservation. When we arrived, they offered to seat just the two of us (my wife and I) while we waited for the rest of our party. Not a typical gesture - and one we appreciated. When it came time for dinner, however, there was a miscommunication, so my friends were going to be ~45 minutes late. I told the host and he explained that due to how busy they were, he couldn't guarantee a teppanyaki table, which I totally understood. He was very kind and it was apparent he wanted to do what he could to get me a teppanyaki experience. When my friends arrived, they ended up having space for us and we got to enjoy the "show".
The food? Amazing. I got filet mignon + chicken combo hibachi dinner, my wife got shrimp + steak. The shrimp was large, meaty and delicious. The steak was cooked perfectly. The sauces were great. The fried rice and noodles and all the sides were yummy.
The chef was engaging and fun. The server was attentive - what else could you want?
Overall a great experience. Left full and happy! Definitely coming back! - Kayleigh M.Lakeside, CA2 friends40 reviews1 photo
10/2/2019I really want to like this restaurant. I've been here 4 times and it seems to be going down hill, especially in freshness of ingredients (fish) and customer service. The most recent time I went with a group of 6 for hibachi. We ordered an assortment of drinks, apps, rolls and hibachi. Our server was super nice and pretty attentive, but the hostess at the front (tiny lady) was rude and abrasive. I watched and saw she was treating everyone poorly, not just me, but the staff and all of the customers she interacted with. Apps were fine. Sushi was poorly rolled and the fish was old, a little odorous and previously frozen :-(. The hibachi was ok, but they load your plate up with tasteless carbs (noodles and rice) and veggies were very over cooked. The grill chef seemed bored of the routine and was not interactive. Go to Benihana if you plan on ordering more than sake, edamame and miso soup...

11/13/2019The food was good, the vibe is decent. They have teppanyaki and a sushi bar! Good and diverse menu. The "courses" came out whenever they wanted. My main course was first to get table, followed by my colleagues soup and salad. Edemame was the last to arrive...just be aware. Food was very tasty and high quality. I'll certainly go back!

1/22/2020The hibachi is great. The sushi isn't very consistent as far as freshness goes. Definitely will be back for the hibachi though!
