Northern did the work automating the heating/cooling in the office building where I work. The updates are great, and make it much easier to control the building environment.

On September 11, 2018, Northern Weathermakers, as stated earlier, came out to fix the sixth leak on their AC unit since installing it 4-1/2 years ago. October 24, with indoor temps in the upper 70's instead of 68 I called Air-Rite, instead of Northern Weathermakers to asses the unit.
On October 25, Air-Rite stated that at least 75% of the Freon had leaked out and the compressor was shot. Leak number seven is only six weeks after the unit was completely charged with Freon, leak number six fixed and an invoice $582.01.
The compressor, now shot, is under a 5 year warranty, it has been 4-1/2 years since installation
When forwarding this information to Mike Lee, President of Northern Weathermakers, and after three voice mails, I was never able to talk to him. Instead, I received a terse, three sentence email stating that Northern Weathermakers will no longer be servicing my unit.
The compressor is under warranty and Mike Lee, President of Northern Weathermakers refuses to honor and stand behind his warranty.
Again, don't let this happen to you.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0Sep 30, 2018Previous reviewI had Northern Weathermakers install a new AC Unit at my small deli in Oakbrook Terrace in the Spring of 2014 for $3250.00. Since then....
Spring of 2015 while under warranty, the unit had Freon leak number 1. Northern Weathermakers charged the unit with Freon but would not replace equipment because the manufacturer would not do anything even though the unit was under warranty.
Spring of 2016 while no longer under warranty, the unit had Freon leak number 2. Northern Weathermakers repaired the leak, charged the unit with Freon and invoiced me $574.55. It was noted by Gene, my salesperson and John the Service Manager that this was the worst unit they had ever seen.
April 2017 the unit had Freon leak number 3. Northern Weathermakers repaired the leak, charged the unit with Freon and invoiced me $549.41.
June 2017 the unit had Freon leak number 4. John, the Service Manager advised me that this time, this would be taken care of Free of Charge and I had been through enough. The service tech confirmed this upon his arrival. Northern Weathermakers repaired the leak and charged the unit with Freon.
One week later I received an invoice for $1907.24. After refusing to pay, John the Service Manager met with me to advise me that Mike Lee, President of Northern Weathermakers told him that he did not have the authority to comp services and that I had invoices totaling $2456.65, but would only have to pay half and could take up to a year to pay. Grudgingly, I agreed and began making payments.
By May of 2018 I had paid $450.00 which is when the unit had Freon leak number 5. Northern Weathermakers sent out their BEST technician who fixed the leak and charged the unit with Freon. There was no invoice this time.
September 2018 the unit had Freon leak number 6. Northern Weathermakers repaired the leak, charged the unit with Freon and invoiced me $582.01. They did credit me the $750.65 remaining from the previous invoices, plus a 15% discount for "contract customer" only meaning that this invoice actually totaled $1443.48.
Mike Lee, President of Northern Weathermakers met with me and basically said that since the unit was no longer under the one year warranty there would be no replacing of equipment because their manufacturer refuses to do so. I signed a contract with Northern Weathermakers not their manufacturer. If I have a problem with my can of peas I go back to Jewel, not Green Giant.
Mike Lee, President of Northern Weathermakers also advised that the company actually helped me by comping me $3040.00. Adding that $3040.00 to the roughly $1600.00 that I paid or still owed that totals over $5000.00 for a unit that only cost $3250.00.
I asked Mike Lee, President of Northern Weathermakers how he would feel paying $35,000.00 for the $60,000.00 Cadillac he drove just to keep it running for the next three years? He just stared blankly. I told him it was ok to answer honestly and he could say no. Blank stare.
Mike Lee, President of Northern Weathermakers refuses to do anything because their manufacturer won't do anything and hides behind his one year warranty. In his mind he feels he helped me and this unit, which has had SIX leaks in the last FOUR years, and ended our meeting saying "these things happen."

The Northern Weathermakers crew totally did everything we needed for our building's heating and air system. They upgraded all of our vents, insulation, thermostats and furnace. Everything is not automated so we can control things (like temperature) with a wireless connection. We had a tech come out to do an energy audit and they found things that we didn't even know was wasting us money in utility bills. They fixed air leaks, our duct work, and helped us get a tax credit for our purchase. Also got a service contract so our system doesn't get as far gone as it was when they got there. I was happy with their work and recommend them to other building managers.

This is a great company to do business with, They are on time when they say they will be there, they do the work contracted to be done, and they go out of there way to let you know what they see and what they recommend and clean up after when they are finished. I will use them again.

Failed experience from the start... Moved into condo with radiant heat. When I turned on heat last December, I got 80 degrees and could not cool it off. Called Northern Weathermakers because I was told they had installed system. Told by sales department that they could "check out the system" for $149. Sent service person, nothing done, then another and a third visit. Bill kept coming and I refused to pay until something done.... they recommended four new pumps but could not estimate work. Bills were over $1000 for three visits, billing person rude when questioned. Finally settled with sales guy for $150 and went to competitor who resolved issue in 2 visits. Waited to write this review to tell you system is running perfectly without recommended new pumps 5 months later.

I came home to a very cold home at 3:00 on Friday afternoon. I called their office and was told because of the recent flooding the earliest I could have someone come out was the next day (Saturday). On Saturday morning at 7:35 A.M. Drew arrived at my home. He quickly diagnosed the problem, replaced the gas valve, and got my furnace working. He cleaned up after he was finished. I also had a question about my thermostat and he looked at it and said it was working fine. I am a Comfort Club member and have been for many years. I recommend their service and Drew did a great job. Thanks
