I have only been here a few times but I know that this is the place I want to deliver my baby which is due in January 2015.

The main reasons being is that the Specialist Centre is right next door and it will only take a matter of seconds for your doctor to get to you in an emergency. The hospital is quite small which means it is quite personal. The hospital itself is only two levels which is good if you have elderly family who do not want to walk around a lot.

The other thing I like is that they have 6 deluxe maternity suites (one of which I have booked!) which includes a double bed, ensuite, fully stocked mini bar, Foxtel, daily magazines and papers and fully catered breakfasts, lunches and dinners for both you and your partners. There is (of course) an extra charge for this which is about $190 per night and you will need to check with your health fund to see if you can claim any of it back.

Take note that this is a private hospital and with all private hospitals, they will want to know whether you can pay or not so most conversations start of with "are you in private health".

For maternity, they do private tours of the facilities on the 2nd and 4th Saturday of every month and I recommend doing a tour within the first 3 months of your pregnancy and again sometime in your second trimester.

For the men/expectant dads, there is a pub next door (about a 2 minute walk away) - something my husband was pleased with :)

As soon as I saw it, I knew this was the hospital for me.

I was surprised to learn that there's a lot more hospitals in Brisbane than just the Royal Brisbane Hospital, Mater and Princess Alexandra.
North West Private Hospital is a smaller, suburban hospital tucked away in Everton Park.
This ninety bed hospital does not have an emergency department so locals will still have to rush to the closest emergency department which is Prince Charles Hospital for accidents. It does have two day surgery theatres, three big operating theatres, a variety of consultant suites, two dermatological procedure rooms, an oncology unit and a recently upgraded maternity unit with beautiful single rooms plus ensuites. Apparently, there are even some deluxe maternity rooms with double beds for expecting mothers who may need a bit more moral support than just hand holding from their partners or who like to sleep in starfish position.
Oh and I have it on good authority that the hospital food here is pretty delicious. Apparently the chef that works at the hospital has previously cooked for Princess Di!

NB The opening hours on this listing refers to the reception hours. Patient care is 24 hours. Visiting hours can be found on the website

Attention all mothers to be - with private health care insurance. There is another choice on the North West side, and it's coincidentally called The North West Private Hospital.

So if you live near Everton Park and the surrounding areas, you don't have to stress about that long trip into the Mater Hospital or The Royal Brisbane Hospital. With your choice of hospitals this may be one of the ones you need to consider.

For starters, they aren't as popular as the others, so you can always probably get a bed and your own room. For seconders (if there is such a thing) they have just opened a brand new maternity ward. Times like this I wish I was pregnant again and living near Everton Park.

The facilities are all new and more importantly don't look like their from the 80s and also new smelling. Ah hah! They have 30 beds for the maternity ward and midwives that love you, I went there for a work appointment once and was astounded the amount of stuff happening here at this little hospital.

Yes, but the main feature I though stood out was the new maternity ward. It's in a whole new section of the hospital and is definetely good enough for you not to trek into the city when you're in labour. Very good that.

This review is based on having day surgery (a Suction Curette) recently at North West Private Hospital. As this was my first surgery, I was quite nervous. Because of a failed pregnancy, I opted to have a suction curette with Dr Jamie Friebe. The anaesthetist was Dr Penny Laske. Both were very professional and friendly.

I found all the staff at the hospital to be very helpful, professional, and welcoming. They were willing and happy to answer all my questions, and my experience was exceptional. In addition, I appreciated how organised the entire process was. I filled out an Online Admission Form via their website the day before my surgery. The nurse called me shortly after to confirm some details and ask a few questions. She was patient and kind when I asked her a couple questions as well.

My husband dropped me off and was allowed to sit with me in both the waiting area and in the back cubicle where I changed into a hospital gown and waited for surgery. After surgery they called my relatives to arrange my pickup, and gave them a 1 hours notice. They also provided a sandwich, biscuit, tea and water after the surgery.

I would recommend North West Private Hospital, as I had an excellent experience there.

Disappointing experience. My partner was in for a procedure and trying to have anything explained about the length or complexity of the procedure was like having teeth pulled! No, you're not allowed to speak with nurseling / medical staff. All information has to be passed through reception staff! Patients MUST leave family etc in the waiting room. Hopeless if the patient is nervous/upset/distressed. Public system has its faults but at least they no longer go in for this archaic 'don't question the medical staff' idea hangover from the 50's. Very disappointing. Will never return!!!
