Showed up here with some girlfriends on a motorcycle trip up from PA/NJ (between 4 and 5 pm) and there was a 20-30 minute wait.
No biggie- that solidified that the place must be awesome and worth waiting for, because if people are filling it up and it's not lunch or dinner hours, that's impressive!
So we waited around the bar area and they brought us some drinks, and when enough seats at the bar opened for all of us to sit down, they even let us just order food at the bar instead of waiting for a table.
Among us we ordered some fried pickles (great but huge), brisket platter w/beans, cole slaw, and mini cornbread muffies (loved), and I think two girls shared a massive salad that came with bbq on top.
Honestly what a great time we had. The vibe was awesome, the service was great and accommodating, and there were plenty of folks with their dogs with them out in the patio area!
I later found out there's also a location of Nickels Pit in Corning, NY and the next time I go to the glass museum there I will definitely plan to stop in for lunch or dinner again.Helpful 1Thanks 1Love this 1Oh no 0 - Oct 3, 2023
Nickel's is a tasty and economical barbecue spot. Our group of 5 split the Pulled Pork Nachos and Pitmaster Combo (with an added quarter-rack of ribs) and it was the perfect amount of food.
The barbecue sauces are great. The clear favorite was the "house" sauce but, obviously, we had to try to the XXXHOT. I have to warn you, it is POTENT. We immediately broke into hiccups, intense forehead sweat, or both.
Pro tip: the other sauces are a bit mild so we ordered a side of the XXXHOT and mixed it into the others to get our desired spice level.
Also, the service was attentive and the convenient downtown location is great. I'd definitely come back again.Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Sep 25, 2023
We were looking for somewhere good to eat in Watkins Glen. We were happy that they had a Nickel's Pit. We enjoyed the food one time at the one in Corning and we love bbq.
When I saw the description for the BBB (3B) the n the men I had to have it. It had all my favorite things - brisket, bacon, bleu cheese on one sandwich and my favorite side, tater tots. It was good. I enjoyed it. My husband enjoyed his pulled pork and corn bread. I got my first pumpkin beer of the season there. It was just ok.
The waitress was very nice and accommodating. She checked on all of her tables regularly despite the place being packed. Service is important.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Jul 16, 2023
We had the Fried Pickles appetizer and they were very yummy.. it was a big portion, even for two of us, and quite frankly we were satisfied from a fullness perspective that we barely ate any of our main entree.
Beer prices were very respectable. $4-$6 for 16 oz of specialty crafted brews.
Friendly, helpful staff.
Neat atmosphere . Kind of an open area. Indoor, at the bar and outdoor. Kids are allowed to sit at the bar (we did so could to get quicker seating and order right away).Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - 123287469Oct 29, 2023
The best bbq in the area. The pig wings are a must try. I don't typically like ribs because they lack meat but these were pretty generous.

Excellent service, beautiful ambiance, and delicious food. Everything was good. The aHugh Hefer beer is a must try. I ordered brisket combo. It was delicious. The baked green was a little bit dry and they didn't have pig wings and I hate when a restaurant does not have something that is on their menu. But these are small problems not enough to shut off one of my shiny stars. They deserve all five stars.

The pulled pork was excellent! Loved the variety of sauces they had. They also served one of our dishes with horseradish, which I had never seen at a BBQ restaurant before but was actually so good paired with the rich food.
The vibe was chill, we also had a couple beers and sat at the bar. The bar tenders were friendly and the service was quick!Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - 7141229Aug 13, 2023
Let me start off by saying that the service was fantastic. SO SO quick. We were in and out in 45 min or less. I ordered the classic brisket. The meat itself was honestly delicious, however it was complete ruined do to the "Weck it" bun. Me being from out of town, had no idea that weck it meant adding a literal pound of salt on the top bun. It was WAY to salty and completely ruined the sandwich. My boyfriend loved his pulled pork sandwich though. Both sandwiches were overall flavorful. I just think maybe they should tell customers exactly what "weck it" means.

We had dinner here and while nothing was wrong with it, nothing stood out at exceptionally good either. The bar staff was polite, recommended some ways to order the various items we wanted (as the combos we wanted weren't on the menu).
The brisket was juicy, falling apart however it was incredibly bland.
The ribs...fall off the bone juicy meat, but again..we felt they were flavorless.
The jalapeno mac & cheese was the highlight of the night.
Saving grace - the House BBQ sauce mixed with the OG Hot Sauce made everything taste way better!Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 1 - Jul 19, 2023Updated review
This is are third time visiting Watkins Glen for the weekend. Nickels's Pit BBQ is one of are favorite spots to eat and drink. The food is really amazing! The brisket and pulled pork is outstanding! The chopped Brisket nachos is the best we ever had! The rotating craft beer selections is huge. We always find excellent IPA choices to pick from. See you guys next year!!
