4/10/2020My wife and I figured we would try a new place for dinner with this lockdown happening. We were impressed and we have had a lot of Thai and Vietnamese food. The classic banh mi is delicious. The baguette is perfect. It is the best Banh mi I've had. The yellow curry is also wonderful. The Tom kha has good flavor but just a little too much onion in my opinion. This place is definitely worth a try and they are very friendly.

The most lovely Asian restaurant I've ever been to. The nice lady who answered the phone was so helpful in telling me what the Vegan options were: "Many of the dishes are vegan if you request tofu as your protein of choice. However, please find a more complete list below. I will list a dish and how you can modify it to make it vegan.
1) Tofu Banh Mi (request vegan, we will replace the butter and mayo with vegetable oil spread)
2) Sweet Chili Tilapia (instead of fish, request tofu)
3) Vegetable Egg Rolls
4) Vegetable Spring Rolls with peanut sauce
5) ALL Curry dishes request Tofu
6) ALL Fried Rice dishes request Tofu and no egg
7) Pad Thai Tofu with no egg
8) Pad Woon Sen Tofu with no egg
9) Singapore Noodles Tofu with no egg
10) Mango Sweet Rice, plain baguettes, sesame hollow bread, silken tofu (hot and cold)
My personal favorite Vegan option so far is the green curry with tofu and the golden tofu appetizer.
My first time here, I ordered the Vegetable Egg rolls and the Lemongbasil tofu - which were so good. The lemongrass basil tofu was so fresh and delicious. My fiancé ordered the Tom Kha small bowl which is actually not that small, it's a great portion for the price and he loved it. Unfortunately for me, the Tom kha is not vegan but it's okay because the green curry is soup-y and tastes similar to me. He also ordered the Vermicelli beef and loved it. His new favorite is the Jalapeño chicken. The food, service and atmosphere is always so wonderful. We loved everything. I even tried the apple butter bread and it was SO DELICIOUS I'm so happy to have found this beautiful gem.

4/16/2020We were looking for different restaurants to try during this COVID-19 social distancing time period and thought we would give this restaurant a try. We had our food delivered via UberEats.
We got the veggie rolls which were crispy without being greasy. The veggie roll had a light subtle taste which I appreciated.
For our main meal we ordered the basil fried rice, red curry, yellow curry, and Pad Thai. My favorite dish was the basil fried rice which consisted of basil, mushrooms, chicken and red bell peppers. It was subtle and not greasy and absolutely delicious (We had some issues lately with some very greasy food at another restaurant so this was refreshing).
Our kids liked the pad Thai. Again, the taste was subtle enough that they ate it without complaint. The Yellow curry was very good and filled with yummy potatoes and other veggies. It was not overpowering at all.
My least favorite dish was the red curry which was very bland and watery. I won't order that again. This is the only reason this is 4 instead of 5 stars.
We got the full baguette and the sesame hollow bread! YOU MUST GET THE BREAD! The baguette was delicious and the hollow bread was to die for!!! SO GOOD! You will also have leftovers for sandwiches the next day.
Will definitely try this place again! - Junus A.Austin, TX
3/7/2020As much as I miss Ng BMT being in my backyard, they have glowed up wonderfully with their dedicated brick and mortar. Along with their signature banh mi they now have a lovely thai menu (I believe this was inherited from the restaurant they took over). The banh mi is insanely good, rather large, a fresh baguette loaded with toppings & creamy house mayo. The proprietors have been the queens of banh mi in Austin for years and there's no sign of them letting up.
The thai curry is bright and aromatic and pairs wonderfully with fresh bread. 4(!) complimentary soups are available while you wait - tom kha with tofu, tom yum with chicken, egg drop and sweet and sour. Didn't try the latter two, but the tom kha and tom yum were great.
The restaurant is nice and open with lots of natural light and a gorgeous view of the surrounding strip mall. Service is impeccably friendly and the food comes out remarkably fast. I know it's a bit north, but don't overlook this nondescript gem. Five shining stars. - Michelle N.Austin, TX
2/29/2020This place is my to-go place for vietnamese food. ALWAYS. The co's there are the sweetest things ever and they always remember my family whenever we go in. My sister always orders the tiger's cry and they recently added some more vietnamese food to the menu! I ordered the banh xeo and it was AMAZING. First banh xeo I've found in austin. You won't regret going into Ng's! I took my non-Asian coworkers here before and they absolutely just loved their meal as well. I thought I wrote a review on that time, but I just couldn't find it :(
We always order the thai tea and vietnamese coffee. If you're a vietnamese from Houston and are craving authentic vietnamese food, NG's is the place to go! Their options are limited, but they're amazing! - Miss V.Austin, TX0 friends7 reviews2 photos
3/7/2020Order was prompt, food delicious and fresh. The baguette (ordered as a side) is 3 feet long! Crunchy on the outside, soft on the inside :) Will use the leftover baguette to make sandwiches, or accompany my coffee. This baguette will last me for days
Ordered: House stir-fry and a side order of a baguette. - Kelly L.Austin, TX

Located in the shopping center, it's really easy to find and plenty of parking. The staff was extremely friendly and so accommodating. I ordered the pork belly banh mi and my boyfriend ordered the combination banh mi. SO GOOD SO GOOD. We also ordered the shrimp spring rolls - very fresh and they had four different soups at the buffet bar for free as well.
For dessert, we got the cold tofu and mango sticky rice. YUM YUM YUM.
This place is so authentic and reminds me so much of home. Will be coming every week ~ - Quyen B.Austin, TX

In the Austin area, this is a better option for quality bmt (banh mi thit). The owners are passionate about their food and you can tell once you chat with them.
This used to be a Thai restaurant and for whatever reason the reviews can't be separated or removed. So to be clear, I'm reviewing the Vietnamese food. The bmt tastes more authentic with the pâté spread and the meats (Vietnamese cold cuts) are seasoned not bland like other places where they add soy sauce. The bread they use is not too doughy.
I also love their cold sweet silken tofu with coconut milk. Think a much lighter coconut flavored flan. They also have the hot version with ginger syrup (đau hu nc đng). These are both desserts.
I have not had a chance to try their Vietnamese entrees but will soon. - Kelsie G.Fort Hood, TX75 friends3 reviews
4/13/2020Incredibly friendly staff, quick service and honestly the best curry I have had in a long time. Will be ordering again, very impressed.

This review is only for the Curry. It's below average at best. The potatoes in the yellow curry were huge slices and way undercooked. I'm a potato fan. If I can't eat the potatoes in a meal, they aren't eatable. I had hoped this would be a regular, guess not.

10/20/2019Great find, thanks to the yelp reviews.
Came here with the family. Got a range of currys to pad woon sen.
Currys are very flavorful. We got the green and red.
Pad woon sen is just like any other Thai place and it was good.
The owner made it a nice dining experience. She came and talked to my parents made sure everything tasted good. I will be back for sure. - John I.Newark, NJ3 friends8 reviews
3/19/2020This is one of the first restaurants that I tried when i first move to Austin. Time and time again, the flavor has been GREAT and CONSISTENT! Better than that, each time the service has been welcoming and on point. The portions are just right and the price matches what they give you. Definitely a great restaurant i hope to support through this tough time and hope makes it through. Im only mad at myself that i didnt take the time to write this review much sooner to express my deepest gratitude to a restaurant with so much pride in serving good food greatly.

8/26/2019Came in to order a tofu banh mi to go and some sesame hollow bread.
I used to frequent their stand often when they were still in the Hong Kong Supermarket. I used to go 1-2x a week and then when they left, I was sad. I have since discovered that they moved further North up near Parmer Lane. The sandwich was as delicious as I remember and my sesame hollow bread was a perfect compliment. Order was ready in about 10 minutes so they were quite speedy too!
I am so happy they were able to expand and have a whole restaurant now! I will come back and have to sample all their new dishes! - Lora P.Austin, TX
1/27/2019FINALLY found our new banh mi spot! Delivered to the table in a cute wrapped package. Delicious grilled pork and the ham and pate was great too -- pro tip - add a fried egg to your banh mi for $1 more! Fresh baked baguette makes all the difference.
Don't forget the dessert! House-made bakery items are top notch - cheesecake, short bread cookies and lemon cookies are all great. - Louis W.Austin, TX2 friends18 reviews
3/24/2020I've been eating at Ng since they were a small sandwich counter in at Din Ho supermarket. Through these years (and numerous breaks) they've remained the best banh mi in town.
My favorites are the grilled pork and the combination. The baguettes are crackly and crisp on the outside, yet chewy and tender on the inside. The grilled pork is savory, saucy, and balanced by the lightly pickled veg (carrots and daikon). The fresh jalapeno and cilantro add a nice spicy crunch to each bite.
They also have Thai food here. I've ordered it once or twice before, and while it was ok I regretted not ordering the sandwich. They aren't the cheapest in town, but it's a small premium for being the best. - Maco U.Austin, TX47 friends106 reviews10 photos
12/20/2019This review is based on delivery orders.
My spouse and I have ordered from NG several times now and have not been disappointed. Very generous serving sizes and always arrives piping hot. I really enjoy their panang curry and the massaman is great too. My spouse gets the vermicelli bowl or stir fry and enjoys both. Their Tom Kha is quite flavorful as well. Very satisfied every time we order from NG. We plan on coming in and trying some of their banh mi real soon! - Wayne N.Austin, TX

I can't remember how long this place has been on my list to try, but finally, after years, I made the pilgrimage up North to NG Cafe.
Gotta say, they have impeccable service and the staff are very friendly. Also free thai tea check in on yelp. Woot woot.
The food is pretty great too, one of the best bahn mi I've had in Austin. The bread is exemplary - soft, crisp at the same time. The grilled pork one is definitely flavorful but I feel the pickled veg could be a bit more pickled for contrast.
They also have self serve soup which is pretty good. Tom Yum and Tom Kha are both very good and unexpected perks to have with your sandwich for the perfect lunch experience.
All in all, great place for a light meal! - Thao P.Austin, TX
2/27/2019Came out for dinner for the first time. Staff and owner were awesome and super friendly. We ordered papaya salad, basil lemongrass stir fry, and a pan grilled pork banh mi with pate added. They also offered four different types of complementary soup that you can serve yourself! Husband and I loved the papaya salad; fresh, crispy, nice balance of fish sauce, sweet, and spicy. Stir fry was delicious, with a variety of veggies and you can really taste the lemongrass. Portion size for all the foods were pretty big and good for sharing. Banh mi was good, but baguette was a little chewy and a slightly difficult to bite through. Maybe because we came so close to closing?
Overall has a great experience, and because it's so close to come, we will definitely be back! - Nathalie A.Austin, TX138 friends36 reviews18 photos

Tried this spot for the first time today. The favor and seasoning was good. No problems there. Tried the beef and rice dish. For what I got, I think $15 is a bit much for the portion size. It came with a scoop of rice and sautéed beef with veggies. It taste great, but I didn't feel it was worth the $15 price tag. Also got the Thai tea... first time.. it was good. Also ordered the Rangoons. They were ok. Nothing special. The woman who took my order was nice and helped me make an order decision.

8/14/2019Cute place! It was clean & the menu covered a spectrum of different dishes & small bites! I had the tofu pudding (not pictured) & tofu banh mi! The pudding was refreshing. I've never had tofu pudding before so I was really curious to try it! And the tofu banh mi was decent. Not as good as California but still good!
