The name of the restaurant is no longer New Fortune. The new restaurant is called Hong Kong Pearl Seafood and the new owner is related to the owner of NoVa's Hong Kong Pearl Seafood in Seven's Corner.
My party of 5 came here on July 2nd and tried its 6-person combo meal ($200). Two days later, my party of 4 and tried their fried rice, fried noodles, veggies, dim sums, and general tso's chicken.
July 2nd trip: we ordered the 6-person combo meal, priced at $200, and an order of Beef Chow Foon. The lobster, onion and oil chicken, and baked duck dishes were superb. The beef chow foon, fried rice, and veggies dishes were okay.
The lobster dish was superb due to the fact that it was perfectly seasoned and the oil/butter within the dish was not overwhelming. This dish can easily go wrong when the chef decides to over-season the lobster meat. The other two superb dishes were just as good because the meat were tender and the taste were awesome. As for the okay dishes, they simply did not stand out.
July 4th trip: we had to look for a restaurant that opens on a federal holidays and serves Cantonese food in my area. So we decided to try this restaurant again and try their Americanized dishes coupled with some dim sums.
Dim sums: we tried the chicken feet, durian pastry, and a pork stuffed bun. The dim sums were delicious.
The Americanized Chinese dishes were okay at best. The fried rice, fried noodles, and general tso's chicken did not wow anyone at that time. Everyone said these dishes were serviceable and left their critiques at that.
Overall: 4/5 for both trips. The new restaurant, HK Pearl Seafood is a good Cantonese restaurant with some really delicious dishes!Helpful 1Thanks 1Love this 0Oh no 0 - 29161361Jun 2, 2023
I ordered dim sum from New Fortune and thought it was decent.
The fried taro was good, and I enjoyed the ha gao. The shumai was meaty. It wasn't my favorite shumai, but I still enjoyed it. The lotus sesame balls were crispy on the outside and chewy on the inside. I normally eat red bean flavored sesame balls, so it was a nice surprise! I was excited to try their pineapple buns, but I think they ran out, so they gave me 2 more baked char siu bao instead. I think the sweetness of the bun and saltiness from the pork were great! Hopefully I'll be able to try their pineapple buns next time.
Because it's close and decent, I would order from here again. They also have some good spicy chili oil :DHelpful 2Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Jul 20, 2023
We went to dim sum on Sunday and ordered a whole bunch of different foods. The one thing I will say is because they are pushing the carts around the food can be a little cold. I also like to order off the Dim Sum.
so I had hot and sour soup and sweet-and-sour chicken. Both were good however the noodles to go in the soup were stale. The spinach was very flavorful and the Peking duck wraps were good. Were they fresh and seasoned perfectly. it was very crowded with people waiting in line to be seated. The servers who I remember from last time were very busy. I would say they were over 500 people in the room. Finally, I would say the roasted pork was seasoned perfectly, but it was very fatty. Eggrolls are oily and the pan fried dumplings were good with pork and shrimp. It's fun to have dim sum every few months.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Apr 18, 2023
We came with a group on a Sunday afternoon around 1:30pm. There were only a few other tables occupied.
From the dim sum menu, we got: har gao, shu mai, steamed chicken feet, roasted pork buns, deep fried taro dumplings, pineapple buns, spare ribs in black bean sauce, shrimp rice noodle crepes, beef rice noodle crepes, walnut shrimp, beef dry chow foon, assorted meat with sticky rice, and sesame balls.
From the main menu, we got: sautéed chinese green, salt & pepper squid & scallops and a fish dish. My favorite was the sautéed chinese green.
Overall, the food is ok. It seemed like most of the dim sum has been sitting around for a bit. They weren't offering a few things that's typically on their dim sum menu like clams, steamed roast buns, stuffed eggplants, etc. Some dim sum portions seem smaller compared to older pictures. I do like their chili oil and it's definitely HOT.
When you enter the front door, carry-out is through the left and dining is through the right. The place is pretty outdated with a huge dining room. It's located in a plaza so plenty of parking. The dim sum markup sheet has prices on it.Helpful 3Thanks 0Love this 2Oh no 0 - 38691918413Jan 27, 2023Updated review

I haven't been here in several years and came in for dim sum to celebrate a friend's belated birthday. The main section of the restaurant by the entrance and stage was closed off for an event. We were seated on the far side of the room.
The tables and chairs are all covered with linen. Although it looks chicer, the chair cover I sat on was stained so not sure how frequently they are laundered.
There were only a few patrons and one or two carts that came out. The one with the dumplings, sticky rice in lotus leaves, and crepes had been out for awhile as everything was cold. I did order the Crab Claws Stuffed with Shrimp Paste and the Stuffed Tofus off the menu. I don't like that the prices aren't listed on the menu as they can mark whatever they want on the dim sum order form. The only reason why I could see they don't list it is that they don't have to keep reprinting when the prices change.
I enjoyed the Crab Claw and Tofu, which were both warm and crispy. The dumplings, crepes, and sticky rice would have been better served hot. Had I known, I would have asked to have them freshly cooked if it were an option.
This venue is popular for weddings, events, and concerts starring Vietnamese artists. I've attended several weddings over the years including my sister's and cousin's. They often promote concerts on flyers on there entrance doors. There is one coming up on February 19. There is also a lunar new year celebration this Sunday.Helpful 7Thanks 0Love this 7Oh no 1Oct 26, 2019Previous reviewMy family has been coming here for years but I haven't been back in awhile. The first thing I noticed was how empty it was for a Saturday around noon. In years past, there would have been a wait. Another difference I noted was there is a small lot in front of the restaurant which is new. I heard that was paved earlier this year.
Our server was good and came by to check on us. The food was the same as I remembered. One of my usual favorites, the baked roast pork bun, was disappointing. There was a lot of dough compared to the amount of pork in it. My other usual favorites were duck, the stuffed eggplant, walnut shrimp, and the sticky rice sauteed with chinese sausage. The sticky rice is a favorite of my two nephews as well. I thought the food tasted about the same as I've had in the past, I just wish they had been warmer.
When I got home I wasn't feeling well. I'm not sure if it's because I ate too much or I got food poisoning. I had to take some pills. - Corey W.Glen Burnie, MD151294856Oct 29, 2022
Old school dim sum spot that doubles as a wedding venue.
Service is fantastic. Quick and polite.
Food is great. Would definitely get the bok choy again. All of the dumplings were great. Chili oil had a nice zing and great flavor. Definitely a more traditional spot.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Feb 27, 2022
We visited this restaurant today. Since they have dimsum 11-3 pm
All kinds of dimsum walking around and they will ask you which one you like or you can point at what you like.
So many varieties of food.
Everything seems good. Only thing is i wish there were prices shown in the table or menu that will show the prices. The bill was a bit steep. We got a few plates of food, not too much. But it was good food.Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 1 - Tommy C.Chantilly, VA643Mar 19, 2023
Dim sum is one of my favorite things in the world. I got there towards the end of cart service and was sold old dim sum that was half off in the carry out area. They microwaved it for me and was still cold. The fresh steamed dumplings I ordered was edible but they kept pushing the old stuff on me.
At the end of the meal they over marked my sheet and charged me 110 dollars when I've only had 60 dollars worth of food.
It was a horrible experience from start to finish.
Please do not come here for dim sum.Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Steve L.Silver Spring, MD09May 13, 2023
It's the same authentic Hong Kong style Dim Sum I enjoyed when I spent a week there attending a friend's wedding. The waiters and waitresses might have changed but the food is still the same.

Where should I start? First I came here for dim sum on Sunday afternoon, quickly was seated and that's where it all went downhill. Dim sum food came out cold. We had 3 waiters come out and each waiter brought 1 item each. None of which I asked for. All the food on the cart was cold and inedible. I had to ask the waiter for utensils, napkins, water, and food. I ordered a lo mein and it came out super salty and there is enough salt in there to give a 15 yr old high blood pressure. Harcao tasted like a ball of raw flowers. The vegetables tasted like a baby horse threw up and came out cold. Will never come back here again. To every potential anniversary or weddings,
