I was visiting my friend and he had this place on his radar to try. We decided to go here and see how good it is or not.
Originally, we wanted to dine in, but seeing how empty it was, we opted to take it to go instead. I only had the gyro and we shared the veggie pakora. My friend had the lamb biryani.
Veggie Pakora: I love pakoras and they did a great job on this. The mint chutney was a good dipping sauce and the veggies were not overly friend or oily. There was plenty to share between my friend and I.
Beef/Lamb Gyro: I wanted to really try the Mediterranean stuff they offered, just out of curiosity. They did a fantastic job on the flavor profile for this. A fair amount of meat and the Tzatiki sauce was delicious. I got it a meal and got a can of soda and waffle fries with it. The fries were crispy and not oily either, so I thoroughly enjoyed this.
Overall, I can see myself ordering from here again.Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - P. G.San Francisco, CA37328Apr 6, 2024
Yuck!
Well, we should have known this wouldn't be a great dinner experience due to 2 things.
#1) The restaurant was empty. My father always warned me not to enter a restaurant that's empty and he is right. "If the food is so good, where is everybody?"
#2) The name. This is neither Indian NOR Mediterranean food.
The Koobideh Kabob (beef and lamb on a stick) was not likely made at the restaurant. It looked like a smooth Kielbasa (polish sausage) that was shiny on the outside. If you've ordered these elsewhere, you'll know the meat is squeezed onto a skewer and heated directly in a fire; not here. My partner ate it, since it was $16.00, and later had a terrible gut-bomb experience. Ouch!
Finally, the service. Register Dude took our order, then hid in the back. I had to look through the port-hole window on the kitchen door and bang on it so he would come out. We should have walked. Consider yourself warned.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Noemi M.Berkeley, CA11844216318Nov 14, 2023
Naan Stop Kabob is akin to discovering a Hercules hidden treasure trove of homemade Halal and Indian dishes, each bite bursting with authentic and rich flavors. The standout dish, the spicy chicken with rice and garlic naan bread, is nothing short of a gastronomic masterpiece. The freshness of the ingredients, combined with a meticulous balance of spices, elevates this particular offering to a level that leaves a lasting impression on discerning palates.
Beyond the culinary delights, the service and staff at Naan Stop Kabob deserve every bit of their five-star rating. Their attentiveness adds a personal touch to the dining experience, making patrons feel not just like customers but cherished guests. The commitment to customer satisfaction is evident in every interaction.
Adding to the overall appeal is the restaurant's tasteful decor, creating a warm and inviting ambiance. It's a space where patrons can not only savor their meals but also immerse themselves in a comfortable and aesthetically pleasing environment. The thoughtfulness extends to the pricing, with generously portioned plates offered at an affordable rate, making Naan Stop Kabob an accessible and attractive choice for a diverse range of diners.
Cleanliness and organization are paramount here, contributing to an environment that feels both welcoming and hygienic. The presence of a huge parking lot ensures that the practical aspects of dining, such as parking, are seamlessly taken care of.
In essence, Naan Stop Kabob is not just a restaurant; it's a holistic experience where the passion for authentic cuisine meets warm hospitality, creating a haven for those seeking not just a meal but a memorable journey into the world of Halal and Indian flavors.Helpful 14Thanks 1Love this 16Oh no 1 - Glenn W.Sausalito, CA14232Apr 13, 2024
Dishonest and horrible food.
Went to get some falafel. Asked them if they had some as a side. He opens the menu he has on his counter and points to "side of falafel $1". I order 3. Should be $3.10.
I get the falafel then I double take at the receipt that charged me $6.50. I ask why and he says "oh that's our old menu prices I showed you."
Then why the F do you have it center counter ready to show your customers? And not tell them prices are 100% higher than the price you just showed them?
And totally unrelated to scam above, the falafel was the worst I've ever had. Horribly dry and flavorless like cardboard overcooked in a microwave.
Will never return.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Jul 16, 2023Updated review
Food: 4/5
As usual, this experience was nothing different, flavor of all dishes was there. The food came out piping hot, and extra tzatziki sauce available. Just wish they had red pepper flakes available to add spice.
Service: 5/5
Friendly and attentive.
Ambiance: 3/5
Pleasant as usual, tables inside are usually empty and most people come in to pick up to-go orders. I noticed a fly this time which kept flying around the table.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0Jan 14, 2023Previous reviewChicken biryani: I did not know they had this on the menu! One of my favorite foods, and from this restaurant is the best thing I have tried. It is a little different from what I am used to(no saffron flavor and did not have the texture of baked biryani, maybe stovetop)? I still liked it and would recommend. I think some fried onions, extra pepper, and baking it would take it to a 5/5.
Dec 16, 2022Previous reviewTried the beef and chicken wraps twice. The tzatziki sauce is lacking in garlic and pepper. Meat wasn't juicy, tasted a bit dry and flavorless. Fries mediocre. Everything just needs some spice and flavor.
Service however was okay? 10-15 min for food in house.
This is very far from authentic Mediterranean food and even asking for some red pepper led to no avail, i was just offered some hot sauce. - Jan 15, 2023
The food was good here just with their interior was a little more inviting. But it did appear as if they were remodeling, so I'm excited to see what it looks like afterwards.
The food was good and flavorful and portions were good too.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Mari D.Downtown Berkeley, Berkeley, CA022Apr 6, 2024
Naan Stop Kabob used to be the only decent "fast food/take out" in Hercules but that has changed. The gyros were fresh, the meat was tender and the taziki sauce was so good. The last time I ate there it was completely the opposite. The gyros was dry, the taxiki sauce tasted like watered down ranch sauce. I didn't even finish the gyro. I may give them another try as they may have been having an off day. If better, I'll update the review.

The question is, would I return? I might. If I had a strong craving for Indian food and there was nothing within a 15 minute radius, I would return. It wasn't that the food wasn't good. The koobideh was flavorful and well-seasoned. The chicken tikka kabob was spicy, not super spicy but enough to have some heat. The saffron rice was also good as well as the cucumber salad.
The portions were plentiful; though I ordered two entrees, we were able to finish one full entree and keep the other as leftovers. So you're asking why I gave it stars versus 4 stars. Honestly, I don't think it was a solid 4 stars because I've had better. It did the job of fulfilling the craving and satisfied us for a dinner I didn't feel like cooking. Two entrees at $15 each. Not bad for the portions.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 1 - May 15, 2023
This is me and my girls go to stop for Indian food in the hercules/Richmond area. The butter chicken is a must try. The coconut chicken is also really good. Make sure you grab a side of the garlic naan bread to dip into the sauce

I used to come here very frequently before the pandemic and loved it. Today was the first time I was disappointed. I ordered a lamb kabob plate and a couple of falafel patties. The lamb was so overcooked I could barely eat it. It was tough and dry with very little seasoning. The rice was also plain and somewhat dry. It came with a tiny salad and 2 quarters of a naan. It had a tiny amount of tzatziki and green sauce. The falafel was flavorful but too dry. I don't know if someone got distracted in the kitchen and I hope it was an off day. I might consider going back.
