My sister and I did a drop in visit looking for the 5 start rehab facility the hospital case manager recommended for our father who was dealing with back surgery, a septic staph infection and urological issues requiring him to have a catheter.
We walked in and asked for a tour. The woman at the desk had a tough time finding someone to give us a tour. Finally a sweet woman showed up and took us to a room. We were surprised to see a room with a bedspread that looked like it was from the seventies and a bed tray covered in peeling contact paper and the corners of the room were very dusty. We asked about the patient/caregiver ratio and she confessed she had no idea because she was from nutrition services. She took us to the "nurses" desk and they explained that the ratio was two nursing assistants to 20 patients. We asked about nurses and they reiterated 2 aides to 20 patients. As we walked around the only place patients and families had was their rooms or the common dining areas or one small game room. Every patient we saw was in a wheelchair or in bed. None of them were smiling. oh, yeah, I forgot to describe the smell-think smoking hotel turned into a non smoking one by spraying Febreze. And they allowed pets!
Not a place to bring a a man fighting a dangerous infection. In fact, I wouldn't wish that place on anyone so I have told all the local people my dad knows.
Fortunately we found a better place to take him so all is well for us but I want to help others.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0Business owner information

Cheryl, as the Executive Director at Myrtle Beach Manor I want to thank you for touring our community and sharing your thoughts. We prefer that people schedule tours with us so we can be sure to have someone available, but will do our best to showcase our home to people who drop in. Your guide may not have been aware that we have recently ordered replacement tables, but hopefully she explained that our residents and their families enjoy visiting in their own rooms, in the dining room, and the Welcome Lounge with the fireplace and 60" TV that is adjacent to the entrance to our community. We also have a private room in our Assisted Living neighborhood that can be used for large gatherings. I do want to confirm your guide's comments about pets, which we allow to visit with proper documentation on file, as that is a real moral booster for many residents. We wish your dad the best in his new setting.

I was very impressed with the newly added memory care neighborhood at Myrtle Beach Manor. The cleanliness and personable customer service was helpful in narrowing down my selection of healthcare in the Myrtle Beach market.

The staff in the assisted living and skilled nursing units are great. They know the residents well, are caring and responsive to family members. There are opportunities for activities and trips if residents want to participate but the decision is up to each individual. The facilities are relatively modern. The assisted living side is a little older but it is clean, well maintained and you can decorate it to you taste. The grounds are lovely and well kept with plenty of places to sit outside in the shade by the water. The meals are well prepared and served hot. The new dining room is spacious and has lots of windows and light.
The skilled nursing side is more modern since it was just done. The dining room is spacious and meals are well prepared and appropriate to the patients diet. The staff is very responsive but seems stretched thin perpahaps because these patients need more care. They seem to have little time to spare. The end of life care leaves something to be desired and is determined by an outside physician who removed from the facility and the patient.
I was pleased with the years that my family member spent in Myrtle Beach Manor especially in the assisted living unit.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0
