A New Mexican restaurant in my area of Delco? Don't mind if I do.
The old Daddy Cooks (I will miss them) has been opened up to a huge dining room. We ordered takeout which I picked up. They had it ready when they said they would.
I got three different tacos: Al Pastor, carnitas, and asada. All three had tremendous flavor. I got an order of guacamole which was good, but it's a bit on the salty side. I was a little disappointed that chips weren't automatically served with it and they were extra.
My wife enjoyed her chorizo burrito. She just about polished it off which she rarely does. I think she regretted that later but it was good regret.
It is worth another visit.Helpful 4Thanks 0Love this 2Oh no 0 - Dane M.Clifton Heights, PA2161Nov 10, 2016
This is one of those experiences where you understand why many stick to chain restaurants and small businesses struggle. The girlfriend took me here for some Mexican food earlier tonight and it was an absolutely terrible experience.
First off when we walk in there is a TV with the sound up incredibly high showing an action movie. Halfway through our meal there was a blaring phone ringing noise coming from it and a cook slowly came out and we discovered the movie was streaming from a phone and we were also hearing her notifications. Staff were ambivalent about our presence and slow to do anything.
I ordered wings, my girl ordered tacos. My wings were half cold, half hot and very limp and soggy, obviously microwaved leftovers. My girl said her tacos were okay but not flavorful. She also ordered guacamole, which never came, and we just let it go because the food was terrible anyway. We know she heard us order guac because she clarified it was a large portion. I also ordered a Mexican Coke for a drink and was told they did not have any, but later I could see not only did they have some in the fridge but the cook was drinking one!!! Unfathomable.
I hate giving one star, but according to Yelp two stars is an "okay" experience, and this was not okay. It was bad. I would not suggest anyone go here when there are better Mexican restaurants in the area.Helpful 4Thanks 0Love this 8Oh no 0 - Krissy H.Virginia Beach, VA135201139Oct 22, 2016First to Review
We loved this place. The staff was very nice. The building was clean. The decor and music are fun.
Let's get to the real stuff here.
First, they give you a free margarita! It's BYOB but you do receive that complimentary and I have had other free Margaritas with not much too them but these tasted great.
The food.
We got three tacos each, they are served traditionally and we added the cheese, tomato, lettuce, sour cream for just 50 cents. I enjoyed the el pastor, asada (steak) and carnitas. All sides are separate. The rice is always important to me and it was authentic and tasted great. Andrew got a side of beans- they tasted great too just blended a little thinner than we are used to.
Just a few comments- The hot sauce was very mild. She brought us two kinds. They both tasted very good but were tame by most standards. I enjoy this. Andrew does not.
The chips weren't complimentary which I find in most places they are and we couldn't find any regular queso and chips on the menu so our waitress recommended the chorizoqueso. We've never had this before, it may have been exactly what it is supposed to be but it wasn't what we were looking for. we like more of a light creamy cheese. Which she did tell us they had in cheddar but we decided to just give this a try. It was very very rich, with a super thick cheese that didn't maneuver well for a nacho. (just something to think about if that's what you are into). The chips were good though!! Overall our experience was great and we can't wait to go back. There's a specials board with different options and upfront they sell candy and ice cream I believe. And sodas so if you walk by you can pop in and grab something and they have takeout. There's a lot of seating and it's bright and airy.
I'll review again after we go back and try some more things.
The prices are fair- 2.50 for a taco, .50 for all the extra toppings. Did I mention they give you a free margarita!!?!Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Christopher S.Swarthmore, PA508261Nov 7, 2016
Just ordered a few tacos for lunch for takout: tinga, al pastor, and chorizo. All delicious and came with a tasty salsa verde on the side. Would definitely order again. Happy to have a solid Mexican spot within walking distance!
