Q:
Can I get the corned beef Reuben sandwich at dinner?
A:
The ingredients are not readily at dinner time, so we can only do it, but only if the restaurant isn’t too busy.

Sometimes people write things that I'm not sure are 100% needed- but Mother's Bistro, located inside Embassy Suites in Portland, needs to be shared.
Mother's B's Brunch, is accessible to all- even if you aren't staying at the hotel. And Mother's marquee is easily recognizable from its own SW 3rd St entrance.
My kid discovered Mother's B. with her close friend- and I'm glad the kid and I decided on brunching it on a Sunday. When we arrived around 10am or so after Sunday Mass, there was already a queue inside and it remained so throughout our visit. I mean, a queue inside or out, most often means that there is something worth waiting for and the dishes did not disappoint! They don't take reservations, so hang on tight.
The space is large and almost has a regal, yet, fairy tale-ish feel about it. It's done in yellows, chartreuse, filigree wallpaper and decked out with chandeliers everywhere you look. At Mother's B., the dishes are made with fresh and quality ingredients and will find all the brunch essentials: French Toast, omelette, scrambles, etc.
Quite honestly, the food may not be creatively plated- but my daughter and I tasted the utmost comforting food- and delivered! I swear my grilled portobello scramble sorted me out in seconds! My daughter enjoyed her 'President'(?) veggie omelette in full glory with 2 different types of cheeses. The hefty, almost roasted breakfast new potatoes, toast and homemade strawberry jam, was probably the biggest Brunch plate we got here for less money we'd spent in other places. So if you're really hungry, come here.
The only negative was that while my Bellini had a tasty peach puree and Schnapps feel, the bubble oomph wasn't at all there. For $62, our yummy Corn Flakes-coatedFrench Toast, our 2 scrambles, my drink and my daughter's coffee, it was all super affordable. I think this might be my favorite and comforting brunch overall. Our brunch at Mother's B. was tasty and goes that extra mile when it comes to cozy and hearty food.Helpful 4Thanks 3Love this 5Oh no 0 - Sarah B.Southeast Portland, Portland, OR4842107Apr 15, 2024
Wholesome homestyle recipes served with teamwork and professionalism in a comfortable and absolutely gorgeous atmosphere at inflated but not overpriced prices.
The French country decor is lovely!
Breakfast is best!!
If you ever get a chance to try a Pecan cinnamon roll do so before they sell out every day. Beat cinnamon roll ever.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Brianna L.Johns Island, SC0227Apr 7, 2024
If you are looking for excellent food and outstanding service, Mother's is the place to go. I was visiting Portland this weekend and enjoyed the breakfast on Saturday so much that we went back before my flight home today (Sunday). Yesterday, Nick managed tricky orders with our larger group really well and was super friendly. Today, Emily went out of her way to provide excellent service and spread sunshine and kindness. On the food front, the French toast coated in corn flakes was delicious, and the cooks did a great job making crispy bacon that was not burnt. The friend I was visiting loved the tofu dish he had yesterday and also really enjoyed his oatmeal and bananas today. Our other friends were also very happy with their dishes yesterday....
The place has a great vibe. I look forward to heading to Mother's again on my next trip to Portland!Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Apr 1, 2024
Seeing this place from the outside, you don't get just how big it actually is! Walking inside the ambiance is stunning, the bathrooms are clean and stocked, the pastry case looks delicious and the uniform T-shirt's are too funny.
Our server was kind and attentive. Even on as busy of a Saturday as it was! My partner and I enjoyed our calamari - it was good. I do prefer it more on the crispier side (but that's personal preference as this was not the most crispy) although we did send back the ravioli. It was fried too tough, difficult to eat through and just overly covered in the Cajun seasoning.
I will return back and I'm hoping to try something new and change my opinion on the food.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - 24534Mar 31, 2024
Welcoming elegance meets comfort food at Mother's.
We made a reservation for Easter brunch. The interior had cranny yellow walls with chandeliers. The upholstery is sophisticated but not pretentious. It might be New Orleans style. It was noisy but cheerful.
The staff was cheerful and helpful. Some were wearing bunny ears! The French press coffee wad excellent. Smooth and rich and SO WORTH IT!
We were a party of 10 and split the check 3 ways. They had coffee, tea, juice, cocktails, mimosas, and more, to drink.
The food was varied - Mexican, Irish, New American - Portland brunch, in other words.
Everyone loved the food and no one left hungry.
I was able to get tofu instead of eggs with my breakfast and they also offer gluten free toast. The jam was great - not too sweet and true to the fruit.
This was a great choice and I hope you enjoy it as much as we did.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Mar 17, 20241 check-in
My wife and I came here based in Yelp reviews. Had a last minute dinner!
When walking into the restaurant it looks like a old school family style dinner with sophistication! Very nice vibe and clean environment!
We were promptly seated for our reservation and greeted by the waiter!
We both had makers mark old fashions! They were one of the best I have had! Perfect balance of Burbon, bitters, and simple syrup.
My wife had a chicken noodle soup that had a beautiful presentation unfortunately the flavor profile was not complementary! Lacking depth ! I had a Cesar salad that had great balance of dressing and salad!
We shared the Four Hour Braised Pot Roast! The potatoes are well seasoned! The pot roast was tender and juicy but needed more seasoning! It comes with asparagus with cheese drizzle that I was not a favor of as is also lacked seasoning!
This restaurant has an idea ambiance and excellent presentation! Food is however lacking flavor depth!
Great service !Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 1 - 61121418Mar 13, 2024
Mother's Bistro has consistently turned out great food and great service for years. Every time we visit Portland we hit up Mother's. Over the weekend I finally tried the challah bread French toast. OMG!! It's some of the best French toast I've ever had.
Each time the food is delicious and you can tell it's made fresh and to order. The place is loud, busy, and you better have a reservation. Breakfast, lunch or brunch you'll be able to find something that stick to your ribs and fill you up for the day. Over the years I've had the biscuits and gravy, French toast and corned beef and hash. All have been great. You bet we'll be back during our next visit.Helpful 1Thanks 1Love this 1Oh no 0 - Feb 21, 2024
It seems that Mother's is very well-known for their brunch but I happened to come here for dinner while staying at the Embassy Suites.
The menu is extensive with something for everyone on it. I've been on a salmon kick lately, so I went with the Grilled Wild Salmon Bistro Bowl with broccoli, carrots, sesame seeds, green onions, and a chili-soy sauce over rice. It was super good! It felt light, refreshing, and the flavors were great.
The service on the first night when we had dinner did not mirror what we experienced the next morning, though. Our dinner service was awesome and there was no wait whatsoever, but the next morning they were SLAMMED for brunch. We attempted to get the attention of someone, anyone, to maybe get on a list for brunch but were basically ignored by the three employees who were (admittedly very busy) but right in front of us and knew we hadn't been addressed yet.
After waiting for about five minutes we decided to call it a loss and headed to the hotel's convenience store for a few quick snacks for the road.
Overall I would definitely come back for dinner and would love to try their brunch if I'm given the chance again in the future.Helpful 11Thanks 1Love this 7Oh no 1 - Mar 6, 2024
Was in Portland for the week and I happened to stumble by this place. This breakfast was absolutely delicious and the service was OUTSTANDING! The insides were clean and the layout felt spacious.
Here is my order:
Omelette (Chef's special for the day) - grounded ribeye, mushrooms, onions, and spinach.
Ordered some french toast and it was fire.
I would highly anyone visiting to give this breakfast spot a try/chance.Helpful 1Thanks 1Love this 1Oh no 1 - 21244481Apr 3, 2024
A beautiful brunch place to get salmon hash! It was quite delicious, the sauce was creamy and light, the salmon perfectly cooked. Our server was super awesome and brought out complimentary French toast for the 3 birthdays that we were celebrating. That was such a nice surprise! The place is light, bright, airy and the perfect place for a brunch gathering. I bet this place is busy for Mother's Day and I can see why - it's gorgeous here.
