This place is interesting. While I can pretty much shop anywhere and buy anything, this place didn't really make me want to spend my money- at all! That's bad.

I guess I would compare this to that Sport Goods store with the phallic name, however, Modell's is missing what good old Dicks has and that's good products that people actually want.

I thought the signage looked very cheap and homemade. It wasn't appealing whatsoever. Everything felt like an outlet and I don't think this is an outlet store, but you know what I mean, those basic colors and the quality had that "feel" that made you think that it was a mess up. Everything just seemed bland.

The staff seemed to be busily helping other customers which was good. Seemed like customer service was a focus. I needed no help so when offered I declined. It was nice to be offered though.

It just wasn't for me. Maybe it's for you, but definitely not for me. I like my Dicks.

I've given this store the benefit of the doubt too many times. I've experienced some amazing customer experience on a few occasions. However my last several visits I have the worst customer service ever. I was simply ignored after standing at the counter for a several minutes to purchase a hat, wile several employees were involved in having very loud personal conversations amongst each other. There are more horrifying situations I rather not post on here, but overall this store definitely needs a change in management or it will bite the dust.

The hat I wanted to purchase but the sales woman didn't seem to be interested in making a sale.

I've never been to a Modell's in my life! Wasn't sure what to expect, actually.

I know I've seen this business featured on Undercover Boss and was curious to see what they had in stock. As we walked to the Target Store upstairs, I noticed this Modell's Sporting Goods store downstairs and their sale signs for polo shirts calling me from the window! 2 polo shirts for $20!!! Damn, I will have to check this out!

After walking around the unimpressive Target Store, I went back downstairs to check Modell's out. I was greeted almost immediately by their friendly employees and began looking for souvenirs. After locating their Clearance items, which was 50 percent off the regular price, I located some great items at very discounted prices.

Now back to the polo shirts! I couldn't believe the selection here! Every possible color and size you'd want or need, and all 2 for $20! These are the same type of shirts that would cost me $20 plus bucks each at home, on sale! Needless to say, I got more than I needed and walked away with 20 shirts, which cost me only $200! I now have shirts to wear every day, without having to do laundry!

I also signed up for their free rewards club and received additional discounts at the time of my purchase! I know we don't have Modell's here, but if I ever wanted to shop online, I can use my rewards card there too! And trust me, their website prices are still better than the prices here in Hawaii for similar items! I know, I checked! Shipping included!

I was happily surprised with this Modell's, which I was told was featured on the Undercover Boss show. Not a huge store, but almost everything you'd want from a clothing/sporting goods store, at super good prices! Located in the Columbia Heights area, this place is right across from a Metro Station, in a little shopping area under Target. Not sure about parking, but there appeared to be a parking structure here, although we didn't drive.

If you ever get a chance to shop at Modell's, don't hesitate! You'll definitely get your money's worth and more!

      First to Review

I hate putting my hands into gym-provided boxing gloves only for them to come out smelling like the 1st level of hell. I wanted to punch the heavy bag at my gym without having to carry around my own boxing gloves, and without all the hassle of wrapping my hands, washing the wraps, and getting the wraps all tied around the center of the washing machine with the velcro part sticking to my dainty underthings. I hate that, too. (I also tend to fight the OCD side of me that likes to iron my wraps.) So I decided to head that side of me off at the pass. I went on a search for grappling gloves.

This story gets longer and involves other places. Places with Jiu Jitsu and MMA people and a snooty desk person who wouldn't let me try the $40 grappling gloves on a bag and they were too big for me anyway...
So I headed to Target... only to discover that there's a Modell's in Columbia Heights! YAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY!

I was happily greeted and escorted over to their Wall of Gloves... where I discovered a perfect pair of weight lifting gloves for $10 that did the trick. Small, lightweight, cheap, and with leather over the knuckles. That's all I wanted. I didn't need all that cumbersome padding real grappling gloves provide for more $$... and Modell's gave me options. I was gleeful.

And I'm gleeful to report that a little piece of NYC has come to the area with oodles of sporting goods including attire like Under Armour, sneakers, and yoga gear.

One little note: I've seen two men come in looking for their team's baseball hat on the baseball hat wall. Neither team was available.

Uggh. One of the worst shopping experiences ever. Online - avoid at all costs. An item was en route to me and then sent back to them by fedex? I never received it. They refused to issue another pair to me until they received the first pair which I had never received??? Poor customer service (and shipping obviously).

Pretty helpful, once they realized I was buying a $100 jersey. I would be nice if places would ask if you needed help.

This store is the perfect example of why retail stores are dying. Terrible customer servce, awful selection, high prices. Just went shopping for baseball gloves. They had one. One glove (adult). Shop on Amazon.

Part Two of the Three-Part Review ~ Try to Follow Along...

So I'm going to Target, but after my first visit I realize "There is a Mo's, there open and...Curiously, they have $10 polo shirts." And not just any shirts. Nice ones. Made in Jordan (the country). Beverly Hills Polo. On my second visit, I buy one. I check out the rest but want one as a test because it's too good to be true.

The staff is nice and ask if they can help me out. The ask for my Mo's card (which I lost) and the line is short so I'm in and out. I briefly check out some stuff then exit , side door and might-as-well-be entrance that leads to the main hall. I tell said, staff, that I may trigger the alarm because it went off when I came in ( Damn happens sometimes). It went off, they waived me off and all was good. A week later I came back and bought another shirt.

Five Stars + I used a found Modell's card that wasn't even mind.

      Good Karma ~

If I could give them a negative star rating...I would. The customer service was atrocious; from management all the way down to cashiers. I'll never spend my money here again.

Probably one of the worst shopping experiences I have ever had, the staff was disrespectful towards me, and they have very little selection. I would highly recommend avoiding this Modells. The Bethesda one is far superior, and it is a mere 30 minutes away. Marshalls also has brand name athletic clothing.
