I'm still a fan, Milwaukie Police Department.
However . . .
Do you not have something better to do than tail my Toyota? Seriously it has 197K miles on it and it's just your average white Japanese Grandma car. Nothing special. Nope. Nothing. But for some reason your patrol officers find it a delight to troll me when I'm driving my wife to the Max station and back. I don't know what it is about that car - again nothing special - that you feel necessary to "do that thing" where you hold way back and run my plates only to find there's nothing in your system. Then you speed up flip on the lights pass me in a narrow two lane street (Johnson Creek between SE 45th Pl and SE 32 Ave). What is that all about? It's happened more than once, or twice, or now five times.
I'm still a fan and I won't change my review stars, but come on, Milwaukie Police Department, don't you have anything else better to do than seriously pull this crap on a local citizen? Seriously.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0Feb 23, 2016Previous reviewIf you live in Milwaukie, Oregon, you know you're lucky. We have a fantastic farmers market, good schools, the Max just recently rolled into town and we have the Milwaukie Police Department to protect us. Talk about an organization that's friendly, responsive, reputable and professional. You can't ask for more. Sure things don't always go their way or our way but if you're a law abiding citizen that occasionally does something stupid like run a stop sign or park in a no parking zone or fails to get your tags updated then yah - you're gonna get a citation.
We live in a part of town where in the past 10 years we've seen our fair share of stolen vehicles dumped across the street, a drunk driver doing dry donuts in the King Road Apartments parking lot, construction past curfew right next door (like 2 days ago), and folks camping in an RV adjacent to the apartments on the street. And every single time our neighborhood like many countless neighborhoods have called the police - ours arrive in a timely manner and take care of business.
The men and women (and canines, too) who selflessly serve our city deserve our appreciation, commendation and praise for keeping our city safe. The least we could do is thank them when we call them or see them in person. It's a tough job I surmise most of us couldn't rise to the occasion - just remember that the next time you get in your car, or fire up the chainsaw or make the rational decision to do what's right. 'Cause if you decide to do something wrong - the Milwaukie Police Department will show up to set you straight. You have my word on that. - James G.Lewelling, Milwaukie, OR2039Apr 9, 2019
This departments primary motivation is how to do as little as possible. I was punched in the face and body repeatedly and strangled nearly to unconsciousness by my neighbor and his teenage son. Three officers arrived to the scene, didn't make any arrests even though my face showed swelling and the neighbors son's fist was red and swollen. They instead questioned me 2 officers on one with quick questions back and forth while I was still in shock from the attack. They later waited a month to file the report with the DAs office and didn't follow up with me once. The case was declined for prosecution based on the lack of a quality investigation. God help anyone in Milwaukie that needs helps from these jokers.

Up and coming little town. Milwaukie has always gotten a bad rap for no real reason. With the TriMet light rail system coming through, Milwaukie is picking up the pace.
Improvements abound.
There are several restaurants and bars in the neighborhood. Wonderland video arcade. New Max stop being built and a new and improved waterfront park.
Milwaukie is definitely picking up the pace!Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Heather K.Lewelling, Milwaukie, OR2811Oct 26, 2020
I had an incident that I needed law enforcement for and Officer Sanchez was who came out and I just have to say not only was he professional but he made me feel like he was truly listening to me. I can not say enough good things about him and I hope he sees this and knows how big of an impact he made on me on one of the toughest days I've ever experienced. I will always be thankful that he was who came to help. He's an amazing officer and very appreciated.

Warning for home owners in Milwaukie. I would not recommend trying to do any improvements to your home that requires a permit or dealing with the city. Do your research. I had a miserable experience trying to replace my existing driveway, even keeping it to the same dimensions it had been for over 30yrs. They required a $1500 deposit to hold me hostage until it was poured to their specs. Very difficult to work with and unreasonable requirements that added thousands of dollars in costs and time.

City puts notices on homeowners property with incorrect times in regards to a tree limb hanging over rd but homeowners were home at the time m. City workers lie and get away with it. City doesn't do crap for my street and if we have issues we're told oh well it's all your problem? Seriously because railroad Ave was redone and end of our street floods worse now when it rains! I can't wait to move out of this crappy city!

Great little city not far from Portland, Clackamas and Oregon City. Easy to get to any place via car or tri-met. Downtown Milwaukie is going through quite a transformation and I think it's about time. Glad that it's finally happening. I can't wait to see all the improvements and upgrades, including the new Max line opening up next Sept 2015.
