Mike & Son Sharpening Service

There's nothing more annoying than a dull knife, especially with all the cooking at home that I've done for the past year and my Wüsthof knives were in desperate need for a proper sharpening. A quick Yelp search and I found Mike -- we texted on a Friday and he said that he'll be in the area Saturday morning and to text back then.

Fast fwd: to this morning, I sent him a text and he responded very quickly. In about 10 mins or so, he was parked in front of my building and I met him with the 11 knives that I needed to sharpen. He's so lovely and a fellow dog lover -- I recently adopted a puppy myself! -- and the whole process took just about maybe 15 mins? All 11 knives sharpened for just $40 and I gave him a tip, because it's COVID times and that felt appropriate.

Next time, I'll spread the word to others in my building! He did a fantastic job and I love that he came to me. I'll be a regular customer for sure. :)

Mike is the very best and old time kind-a-guy.  Just my type.  Covid19 has changed things but I still call him every chance I get.  Been going to Mike for years now.
He knows his stuff and does it well.  Highly recomend him.

Experience: I texted Mike on Saturday, he asked me to text back on Sunday morning first thing. When I did, he was outside of my apartment building in his van within 45 minutes. I dropped off my knives with him and he told me they would be ready in 15 minutes.

Outcome: My knives WORK! For $30 he sharpened 4 knives & my scissors.

I texted Mike & Sons around 9 a.m. and by 10 a.m. Mike and his truck were outside my apartment. Communicating with Mike & Sons via text was quick and easy. They were very responsive. The price was $6 per item and I had seven items: five knives and two pairs of scissors. Maybe because one of the knives was a paring knife he charged me $40 for the entire job. Such a great price! And I didn't even have to carry my knives anywhere to get them sharpened.
I got a text when Mike was outside. He was very friendly and very knowledgeable about his craft. In about 15 minutes, all my knives and scissors were sharpened. He wrapped them up and newspaper and returned them to me. He gave me some great advice about how to keep my knives sharp.
I will definitely be using his service again! Thanks Mike!

My wife called Mike & Son sharpening service and asked when they would be in the neighborhood, as we trust them to take care of our professional kitchen knife set, they actually came by a week ago to Bayside and within 30 minutes  my set of scissors, meat cleaver, filet, carving , paring and 2 utility knifes were all sharpened to perfection.  
By the way this set of knifes was bought 18 years ago and still going strong! Thank you Mike best wishes for 2021 and we will see you next year!

I got my knives sharpened from Mike and it was great! My knives are sharp after being dull for so long and the service was quick and convenient! The price was great also!

This is really hard to write because I literally waited a couple years for the opportunity to get my knives sharpened by this service. I was so excited to support what seemed like a great old New York business.

But the work that was done was absolutely terrible, with the edges becoming wavy and burred after only a few uses. I wound up going to a different independent sharpener, on the Upper West Side, who was uncertain he could salvage them but eventually succeeded.

I see mixed reviews on here, with some having the same experience and others saying the work was fine, so there maybe it's just a matter of being lucky enough to catch them on a good day.

We have been using Mike & Son for years for all our knives, and he is the absolute BEST. He is the only one I trust and the quality of his service -- and his general knowledge of knives -- are unmatched. Besides...he's about the nicest guy you'll ever meet, and is always such a pleasure to talk with. He's incredibly affordable (too much so, really!).

I discovered these guys by accident a while back when they happened to be on my block.  I heard their bell and ran out to ask him to wait while I got my knives together.  The man on the truck that day was really nice.  More importantly, he did a great job.  The knives were good as new in a short amount of time and for a very reasonable price.  Fantastic service.

Best service in Brooklyn. I called the night before and arranged for him to come to my block the next day. Brought out all my knives, including a Japanese mandolin. Everything is in incredible shape now and it was so convenient friendly and the way things should be!
