About the Business
Since 1987, Meredith's Country Bakery has produced handmade and preservative-free breads, rolls, cakes, cookies, pies and preserves from scratch. Family owned and operated, what began as a small bakery made up of only 10 products has quickly grown into a company providing a selection of over 180 quality baked goods including organic, sugar-free and gluten-free. As one of the founding members of The Pride of New York program, we strive to support local agriculture by sourcing quality ingredients from farms and producers in New York State when available, and attend up to 50 farmers markets a week during our peak season as our main point of sale. All gluten-free products are made in our designated gluten-free facility with it's own equipment, staff and certified gluten-free ingredients. Our recipe development process understands the role of nostalgia and emotional connection as it relates to the consumer experience. The act of baking is known the world over as a form of expression and source of comfort. In an age of rapid and impersonal food processing we value basic fundamentals, setting creative intentions and using minimal production equipment. The mission of our bakery is to create delicious and full-bodied products using time honored practices without the use of chemicals, preservatives or fillers.

This was a pit stop for us. It's a small place that has quite a good selection of gluten free baked goods and well as regular baked goods and a couple of vegan items.
It was great to have gluten free strawberry rhubarb mini-pie. Everything was fresh. The gluten free black and white explosions were very tasty and our favorite. Overall they had the same items in gluten free as well as the regular baked goods which is great for kids who always have to have the same two to three gluten free things in a bakery. It's great to have the normalcy and variety. The service was friendly and the coffee was great too.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Mei Qin Z.New York, NY1252831386Jan 13, 2024
My sister's colleague gifted her and the rest of their colleagues some bread and pastries from Meredith's Bread, and after sampling a few, now I'm just left wondering how to get my hands on some more.
* Sundried Tomato, Garlic & Basil
Hearty and crusty, yet incredibly soft on the inside and packed with so much flavor from the sundried tomatoes, garlic, and basil. This was by far my favorite loaf, and I enjoyed it tremendously, paired alongside some tomato/marinara sauce.
* Rosemary & Olive
Peppery, earthy, and woodsy from the rosemary, and again wonderfully crusty on the outside and soft and chewy on the inside. My sister and I both mistakenly assumed that this was made with rosemary and olive oil, that is until I read the ingredients and realized that there were actual calamata olives.
* Apple Crumb Tart
The perfect combination of tart apples and sweet cinnamon crumble, though sadly, the crust was weak and undercooked, I think?Helpful 25Thanks 2Love this 21Oh no 0 - Oct 4, 2023
You know how the Europeans stay so slim? They do not eat chemicals like the vast corpulent Americans! Yes, sorry, but cannot help being aware of the disparity of the weight of our nation when it comes to the amount of false ingredients added to foods and the toll it takes....
Okay, no more facetious ranting.
Meredith's is a bakery that has a vast array of wonderful goods without the aforementioned preservatives. They also have gluten-free.
I thank Marianne and Mercedes for introducing Meredith's Bakery on Yelp, based in Kingston New York. Their baked goods are available at many local Farmers & Green Markets in the NYC area, Queens, Bronx, Brooklyn, Manhattan and in Westchester County . Please eat in moderation and avoid preservatives!
Thank you so much for reading.
Have a good day!Helpful 38Thanks 12Love this 41Oh no 0 - 43188315096Aug 20, 202317 check-ins
NYC's Marianne buys Meredith's Bread scones, bagels, etc from a farmer's market and perhaps at other specialty retailers. But if you're in Kingston, NY, you have to come to their mothership that's open to the public on Route 28 to get on-the-spot/grab-n-go items.
Spread over one big floor, Meredith's B. operates in the back making all their goods on site. The front part of it- which is only a sliver of this whole property, has one small wall with shelves holding various types of pastries, regular-size pies and mini (real mini) pies. Another small wall holds their sliced sourdough loaves, more carbs and Challah rolls-which I got.
As gap fillers, there are delectable sweet treats such as these 'Chocolate Explosions' I picked up that resemble chocolatey truffle filling bonbons+ marzipan cookie base. There are also chocolate chip cookies, black & white cookies and so many other goodies. And their Guava Pastitas I didn't get my hands on got me curious. Though not sure what a pastita is- but the guava is calling me. It's a 10-minute drive from where we're staying and won't be the last. Service from Emma was pleasant and price was good on just my 3 items.Helpful 11Thanks 2Love this 11Oh no 0 - 5000385171213Apr 13, 2023Updated review
Meredith's Bread is my favorite business when I go to the Green Market in Summer and Fall. I purchased one of each flavor scone and froze them for the winter. Today I ate the last one. I've got my favorites I will buy when the market returns. I was surprised at how much I enjoyed the gluten free scone. They're more expensive but I'm definitely going to try each flavor. The scones have a bread texture and I miss a scone with a cookie texture. I do love the variety of items that Meredith sells.
Try everything!! I'm recommending.Helpful 38Thanks 2Love this 45Oh no 0Jul 10, 2022Previous reviewMeredith's Bread comes to my city Greenmarket on each Sunday. I'm highly recommending her products as they are made in New York with New York Flour. I've been shopping her baked goods for some time now.
You would not believe the variety. She has gluten free and paleo plus the sugar free. There's every flavor pie you can imagine. I love the scones and muffins and there's macaroons too. She has a wide variety of cookies.
Let's not forget she sells jam and jelly too. There's many flavors.
The employees at my Greenmarket are very nice and start early in the morning getting ready for sales. Whether you live in Kingston (or not) connect with Meredith to see if she's selling at a Greenmarket near you. - Feb 1, 2023
I went here a couple weeks ago because I heard the black and white cookies were amazing. They really are. I got a couple other cookies which were also amazing. I went back today and got a bunch of stuff. The Caramel Explosions changed my life. I like to look at other reviews when I leave a review. I saw one from 6 years ago where some lady had a freak out about a biscotti she got at a farmer's market. She apparently got a refund but still felt the need to leave a 1 star review. I looked at her page and she has a ton of 1 star reviews and very few 5s. People like this are miserable and should just stay in their house.
Anyways, I can't wait to eat the rest of this stuff.Helpful 3Thanks 1Love this 0Oh no 0 - Mr F G And Mrs M S.Flushing, NY66212284749Jun 27, 2023
We've been buying their brownies and pies for few months at the farmer market in the Muscoot farm. We love their brownies. Gluten free and not too sweet. One day we decided to drive upstate to visit their bakery, It is a small bakery with a "Gluten Free" sign outside. Highly recommended if you are looking for a gluten free bakery and live nearby.

On our way to go snowboarding, we casually drove by this place and my hubby pulled a little u-turn when he saw the big "GLUTEN FREE BAKERY" sign.
Could this be true? Could this be real life? Things working out for me so easily? Monday morning and it wasn't closed? Gluten free bakery while I'm on a gluten detox?
Yes. Yes, it was real life. The bakery was very real too! When you walk in there's a little public access door to their small bakery. Side note: nothing small about this place! Huge back section of hard working bakers making the bread! No, really, they were lol!
What I love about this place is they have all sorts of baked goods: muffins, pies, bread, cookies, you name it! They also have the gluten free version of most of those things as a smaller portion. The fact is: they have gluten free baked goods!!!!!!!
I was over the moon with my banana chocolate chip muffin and my hubby was even happier with his regular chocolate chip muffin. We both got coffees (I'm still stuck with the decaf option but it was pretty good!) and he got their peru blend which he loved!
All in all, amazing place! If you drive by, do me a favor and pull that u-turn!Helpful 18Thanks 1Love this 15Oh no 0 - Lexi C.Pasadena, CA063Dec 1, 2022
PEANUT ALLERGY WARNING with Black and white cookie.
Please please please start listing the full ingredient list on your items and train your staff. My 4 year old daughter has peanut and tree nut allergies. Your staff informed my mother in law that my daughter would be ok eating the black/white cookie. 20 minutes after eating the cookie, my daughter broke out in severe hives, her entire body and face is swollen, her body temperature and heart rate are elevated - it's been 2.5 days on medicine and she is still not better.
Further research on your website shows your black/white cookie contains lupine flour (which is in the same family as peanuts and can be fatally dangerous for some people with peanut allergies). My daughter consuming only a quarter size of this cookie has caused such a severe reaction and we are still on high alert to make sure she doesn't have difficulty breathing.
Please please please train your staff and start including all ingredients on the labels of your items.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Anik R.Bronx, Bronx, NY22367Jul 15, 2022
Found this business through a local green market located around Jacobi Hospital. It's a pop-up shop with a a lot of selections with cookies and other baked good. Loved the reverse chocolate chip cookies and pumpkin cookies. Extremely friendly seller, they pointed out fresher ones for me to pick.
They are gluten free friendly!Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0
