Melt Shop

3 Cheese was legit. Shop Tots brought it home. Tunes were rockin. Didn't try the sauces. Wonder what that was about.

Got take out here a few times. Everything I tried here is pretty delicious and fresh. Chicken fingers  are good as well but get them plain with sauce on the side to keep it crispy. One time I ordered the Buffalo flavor with the dressing already on it and wasn't impressed at all.

Melt Shop used to always be one of my favorite fast food joints in the city but after this last visit I don't think I can go back.

I came today (Sunday August 1) around 6PM. There was just me and one other customer.

There were quite a few employees in the restaurant but everything seemed very scattered.

I ordered from the kiosk a chicken bacon ranch melt, grilled chicken chipotle salad and loaded tots.

Afterwards, that is when the issues began. While waiting for a while I realized that the back had forgotten my order and forgotten my order more than once when two different employees asked me to repeat my name. This happened around three times. Afterwards, I watched around 10 people get their orders before I finally got mine.

When I finally got home with my food - excited to start eating I was sorely disappointed when I realized they didn't even finish making my salad?? They started building the base but ended up forgetting the avocado mash (the most important part), Fritos and grape tomatoes and they even gave me the wrong dressing. How do you forget how to make the salad in the middle?

Anyways, this whole experience was such a disaster and training really needs to improve at this location

I genuinely think the Melt Shop might be my favorite place in the whole world. It might be because I just love grilled cheese, but this place really does it justice. Their bread is fantastic - perfectly crisp and covered in the right amount of butter. Like you could eat the bread by itself and be perfectly fine. I usually get the classic American and cheddar grilled cheese and the flavor always comes through. You can add tomatoes, onions or bacon to your grilled cheese for an additional charge.

I tried their specialty impossible burger melt which wasn't my favorite because the patty doesn't soak up any of the butter flavor like normal burgers. It's one of those frozen patties that are simply warmed up.
Their buffalo chicken melt is insanely good. My bf gets it every time. The chicken is crispy with the right amount of sauce. It really fills you up!

Their tater tots aren't anything crazy but make the perfect side. I prefer their original shop tots without the cheese because I like the parmesan seasoning they put on top. If you get it with the cheese, you don't get that and they really layer the cheese on there! So if you like melty cheese sauce, then you'll love this.

I also always get their Nutella shakes. They drizzle Nutella around the cup first before they pour the shake in so you get nice chunks of Nutella when you drink sometimes.

I will say that I've been to quite a few of their locations and quality does vary depending on where you go. I swear the grilled cheese from the location by herald square never tastes as good as this location. It's always less buttery, crispy, and cheesy (but still worth it LOL).

Pros: delicious food, menu options, location a short walk from WTC/Oculus
Cons: don't come if you don't like greasy/dripping food

Pandemic visit: I came here at the end of December 2020. They had plenty of sitting inside but unfortunately it's unavailable for now. I recommend you walk back to WTC/Oculus area where there's plenty of sitting.

The menu is great: sandwiches, burgers, fries, shakes, tater tots with toppings, salads. I highly recommend the Chicken Bacon Ranch melt sandwich: it was really delicious. We found our food to be dripping with sauce and the burger was a bit greasy. It gave it lots of flavor but I can understand if you aren't into that, so be warned.

They have an app and you can order pickup, something to consider if you want to order ahead.

I was so optimistic to give the place a shot. But I was terribly underwhelmed with the food. I got a burger melt, which contains pickles l, caramelized onions, burger sauce, cheddar cheese and Monterrey jack. I requested no pickles as I'm not a fan and they placed pickles if not more in the melt. The sauce resemble the secret sauce in a McDonald's Big Mac. however, the caramelized onion was far from caramelized, they were more like soggy onions l with not much taste. The burger was cooked perfectly and the cheese was tasty but overall I would not get this again.

We ordered delivery and we were pleased. We enjoyed our melts (particularly with the vegan patty) and nutella shake. I LOVE tater tots and I was happy with the cheese tots except the could have used a bit more cheese.

I had a bad experience here. I placed an order on MealPal and went to pick up my order at the noted time frame. I told multiple workers about my order but other people, including other MealPal orders and On-the-spot orders were taken care of before me. I was standing there, well over 15 minutes. I was so angry. I think it was mainly the lack of concern and care. And other customers noticed to. They ordered after me and somehow received their food. Then I overheard the manager say they didn't have grilled chicken. Why not be honest and speak to me directly, let me know or offer me an alternate solution? They were serving tons of fried chicken sandwiches. Why not just offer me that option so I could leave? Then eventually a worker offered me a drink and tater tots, which was nice. When I finally got my food I checked the bag for the tater tots and it wasn't there. So I ask the worker for it and they acted surprised. You make me wait 15/20 minutes and the least you could do is offer me tater tots and you ask if I still want it? What planet am I on? I'm hungry. I'm angry. I was ignored. I waited 20 minutes past pickup time.

Even in my past interactions with this chain, I've never understood the hype. Sometimes the bread is extremely hard or crunchy. The grilled cheese, if not eaten on the spot, is a chewy slab of American cheese. I won't waste my money here.

Hard pass!

First time here and I enjoyed my food. I had a fried chicken melt it was so tastey ,I love the bread they use. Don't get me wrong its a little pricey  my sandwich was almost 10.00 but like I said enjoyable. The juice was ok nothing to really talk about. I will be back so I can taste a couple of other things on the menu.

One of the female employees really went the extra mile to help me figure out how to alter my transaction to make it gluten free. They are now doing orders through kiosks and it seems they have some kinks to work out. If you want to sub grilled chicken for any fried chicken you can do so without an extra charge, you just have to speak with an employee. The avocado I added was unfortunately missing, but I called 2 hours later & they refunded the difference asap!

My hunny and I wanted to get back to our picnic roots. Instead of whipping up a huge spread we wanted to relax and grab sammies so we could enjoy each other and didn't have to slave away in the kitchen.

We both ordered the Fried Chicken Melt. My hunny substituted the Melt sauce with garlic mayo. I added sautéed onions. I wanted mozzarella cheese but they didn't have any. My hunny decided not to put any cheese on my sammy. The sammies were pretty solid. I'm not a huge fan of the melt sauce.

The only downside is that I wish we ate them right away. I placed them in the fridge and decided to reheat them in the oven which made the country white bread crunchy. I should've removed the chicken pieces placed then in the oven and warm the bread for a few seconds in the microwave. Next time I'll order mine with the pepper jack cheese, sautéed onions, sans the cabbage.
