This review is way overdue... as I have nothing but great respect for this business & its ownership. And have been a patron of the store for over 10 years.

I bought a double holed Hawaiian Mele made out of Mango that not only sounded amazing since the first day I bought it.. but still looks like brand new even after 1000"s and 1000's of hours playing and practicing. ( read a 3 star review here on this subject that is a total nonsense!! ) These are literally the Rolls Royce of this line!!! With very high craftsmanship. And excellent use of materials.

Yes, it cost a little bit more than a standard Mele .. but its beauty has inspired me to pick it up daily and play. And has become my favorite activity once I get off work and come home .... And now, after a year of self learning & diligent practice, I'm very happy with its performance & the great service this business has provided ever since my first day of ownership.

I also shopped around and this was by far the best pricing & I felt like I walked out of their store with the finest Ukulele on Maui.

BTW: it's impossible to own one of these instruments, and not play happy songs . This instrument is pure joy to own .. and it was only after playing daily for a year and a half that my first string broke. Which was promptly fixed the very next day by the professional staff here. Dedicated to their clients. Who shared in my joy.. I cannot recommend this business enough!!! They are the total package!!!

And when it is time to add my next Ukulele you can bet this will be my first stop!!

Mahalo Nui Loa to the professionals at Mele in Wailuku!! You have earned my deepest respect and loyalty. Forever your customer, Robert!!!

Went to the store in Wailea and got to talk shop with one of the managers. Neat little place and extremely friendly. It's not every day you come across a store that sells their own instruments. I eventually went back and bought a Koa Guitarlele!

One of the best experiences I had when I was in Hawaii! I came here to buy a ukelele for my brother and as someone who had no cultural background or knowledge of ukelele's I was pretty stumped on what to buy. Luckily, I was greeted by Arlie!

Not only did he educate us about ukelele's, but he also showed us how talented he was with them! He showed us the different tones that each wood gives and introducing us to Koa, a wood only from Hawaii! He also taught us the different sizes of ukelele's and gave us good recommendations on what my brother would like. These ukelele's are handmade and excellent quality, so of course they would be higher-priced, but honestly, I think that their prices reflect the dedication and love they have for their craft and their culture, so I'm 100% down to support it.

After hearing his recommendations, I finally decided to buy a mahoganey which was priced at $300. We came back home in San Francisco and finally gave it to my brother on his birthday. He was speechless and stunned when he first opened it. Thank you Arlie for helping me give my little brother the best gift he's ever received. He'll take great care of it!

Went here a few weeks ago to possibly get another Uke, but the prices were a little more than I wanted to spend. The lady there showed me some amazing pieces and was very helpful. I fell in love with one she showed me, but I wasn't ready to spend $500.
I slept on it, and the next morning I went back to take another look and see if there was anything else a little cheaper.
There was a different person working this time, I don't remember his name though.
The first thing he showed me was that same Uku I was looking at the day before. He was also very helpful and explained the differences and why some are so high in cost. I ended up purchasing and he gave me a discount on a bag as well. He was super helpful, and friendly. I would recommend coming here if you're looking for a quality Uke. It's was also cool to hear him play!

It's a very cute place. A gem in Maui if you are looking for a ukulele you have to stop by. Wide price range you can find something that fits your budget.

Bf got a handmade ukulele for around 500 bucks which is a very good deal comparing to the other store we stopped by.

      Very friendly staff.

Cute little ukulele shop. Each time I come here, it feels like I'm visiting a friend's home. It's cozy and comfortable. Eva was so patient as I looked at several ukuleles to try and feel and ask a lot of questions. She gave advice on several of my issues. I finally purchased a koa tenor. I love it! Mahalo Ewa!

My father was looking for an authentic ukelele not those cheap Walmart ones. This place is the right place to buy aunthentic ones. It is expensive because the quality is top notch. The person helping us was very friendly and knowledgeable regarding ukelele. He also gave us some free stuff because we bought a ukelele and a case.

So, if you need authentic ukelele, this is the place!

Last summer, when I was vacationing with my family in Maui, I stopped in to look around and eventually bought a ukulele at the Mele location in the Shops at Wailea. The shop has an extensive selection of ukuleles of all sizes, woods, and prices.

The prices for all the well-made solid ukuleles sold in the shop were very reasonable. The employee was also extremely helpful, patiently showing me many ukuleles based on my wood preference, uke size, and price point.

I ended up getting a solid tenor handmade ukulele made of mango wood. The body of the uke has a beautiful unique pattern with an inlay and the sound is unbelievably nice. It was also the first time I bought a ukulele with a low G tuning, which added a "mellow" sound. It's especially good for songs that sound better when picked. Of the three ukes I own, this has become my favorite.

Mele Ukulele will be a definite stop for me whenever I'm visiting Maui.
