6/27/2014Very good variety of lunch items - 1 main and two sides.
Main dishes were curry chicken with potatoes, thighs in a pepper sauce, beef, turkey meatloaf, lightly crusted fried shrimp, honey BBQ chicken, fried vegetable rice... And maybe one other thing I'm missing).
With a choice of 2 sides:
House potatoes with onions (looked great)
Mac n cheese (DELISH)
Collard greens (very good)
Cabbage and carrots (very good)
Broccoli and cheese (good)
All for $8 or $9 bucks.
It's halal, clean, friendly and they will let you taste a few things if you're uncertain what to get.
I will definitely be back! - Andrew B.Evanston, IL11615722
4/26/2007Wow.
Located in Newark's tiny (but thriving) Muslim district, Mecca's Halal Restaurant has some shockingly good food. Don't let the lofty name fool you; though they do serve middle eastern classics like shawerma and falafel, the big ticket items here are down home comfort food, served cafeteria style. I don't know how they do it, but their trays of food taste better than the freshly prepared stuff of their Broad Street competition.
I got this awesome sweet chicken, with mac+cheese and collard greens on the side, for $7.50. I'm literally drooling on my keyboard just thinking about it. I would give it a five, but the decor is pretty terrible. I'm seriously in love with this place! - Mohammed K.Teaneck, NJ0152
