Came here with a friend on a Thursday around 6:30pm. We got in and was seated almost immediately. The place was busy but not overly packed like the two other nearby locations we had intended to go to. Third try was the charm!!

Their Happy hour menu was small, I ordered the peachy lychee cocktail that was off the HH menu and it was delicious. Wish it was fruitier. Avocado fries weren't season. flatbread caprese lost the crisp from the juicy fresh tomatoes.

Service was great, the staff are super friendly and attentive.

On our way to another bar, one of my friends Kim spotted a signage that says HAPPY HOUR 4-9pm #score as most ends at 6pm or 7pm! Wow what a spacious venue with an upstairs. The hostess sat us in an awkward table where I was facing the wall and uncomfortable setting. I wanted to order a Bay Breeze but wasn't sure it was considered as well drinks on the Happy Hour menu and our server shook his head. I decided to get a cranberry vodka with added pineapple suggested by my friend Grace and she got the same drink...good choice very tasty but of course my light-weight got tipsy super quick since I had a super early lunch. Kim was totally loving her sexy Cosmos. One of the female servers was very aggressive even though we are under the care of our server Curtis.

I love loving this Yelp check-in...when your group orders 2 or more entrees (under Specialties and Handhelds), they will gave you a free appetizer in the value up to $15!

      Food:

Grace: McGettigan's 8oz Steak Burger $16 - medium well temperature...holy moly enormous burger

Me: Homemade Shepherd's Pie $16 - I love Shepherd's Pie but this one was super liquidity in the ground beef juice and the sweet potato crust was tasty with droplets of tabasco sauce

Kim: Free Appetizer of McGettigan's Buffalo Chicken Wings...this was nothing special so she ordered Gourmet Beef Sliders...very juicy and flavorful

Apparently Amaretto Sour and 7 Seagram isn't considered as well drinks and they are full priced at $12 a glass. I don't think Curtis knows much about well drinks and what should be underneath that umbrella so we kindly asked to speak to a manager. It took a few minutes for the manager to come to our table and he decided to take out one of the Amaretto Sour but still should've given us Happy Hour prices at $6 for the Amaretto Sour and 7 Seagram.

I stopped by on Friday b/c I was looking for a venue to host, NBA Finals Game 1. I went on Friday, they made the reservation. The manager Brian called me that night to come back in on Saturday to look at the area for my Meetup group. We confirm, I arrive today & the place is CLOSED, SEIZED. Pictures are attached. I had to choose 1 star, unfortunately.

If I had to review this place based on atmosphere and service only, I would have given it 5 stars. However, the food was not on point the night we went, hence the 2 star status (which would really be 2.5, but Yelp doesn't have half stars).

First off, let me talk about what is great about this place. It's all about atmosphere for sure at McGettigan's. The interior is interesting and beautiful--like a mix of old world and new world ambiance. There are bright neon lights juxtaposed with walls of books like a library in a19th-century Irish estate. Very cool. Also great was the service. On the night we went, our waiter was a nice chap from Ireland who was here going to school and waiting tables at McGettigan's while living here. Great guy and awesome service! They also had live acoustic music the night we visited. This was great and a pleasant surprise!

Now for the not-so-good points, which are mostly centered around the super lackluster food. I was certainly hoping for a lot more seeing all the great pics on Yelp, but it just wasn't happening last night. It all started with our appetizer (beef nachos). They were ok-ish but hardly had any beef... and all of the cheese was lumped into one ball in the middle and not spread out over the chips. Also, the salsa that was served with the nachos was bland AF (but perhaps that's how they make salsa in Ireland). At any rate, they need to invest in a little salt and other spices for their pico!

Next up was the beef stew, which a friend of mine ordered. He said it was just okay (also note that it's fairly small for the amount you pay)... oh, and it was not served hot. I had the burger, which was way overcooked (I ordered medium rare), and the bread was super dry (must have been day old brioche). Also, my food was not hot enough either. My partner Tony had the fried chicken sandwich, which he said tasted more like a "fried breading sandwich"... that is, the chicken was super thin and was encrusted with a very thick coat of breading, lending the chicken taste almost unnoticeable. Oh, and it was not hot upon arrival to our table either. Yikes! Is their food warmer not working or something?

I really wanted this place to be great.. and I may go back because I've heard raves about their Happy Hour (after all, it's more of a challenge to mess up drinks, right?) As for now, Happy Hour is the only thing I would return for...

Nachos - tasty but smallish- you can see from vid they need to more evenly distribute the ingredients over the chips
Burger good but bun = dry & meat overcooked. ALSO not hot :( ...I suspect it can be amazing when kitchen staff are on spot

McGettigan's is your typical "large group" bar that looks decent on the outside but is a bit tacky on the inside. The service was fine but surely don't fall for the happy hour. I ordered a "Dark and Stormy" which was a part of the happy hour i.e. $6 and 2 minutes into the drink I felt like I was sipping from a glass of sugar.

It would surely help matters if they toned down the interiors a bit not making it seem like it's holiday season 365 days through the year :). Then again, if you're looking to just get that one drink with a co-worker or a small group, this place might actually come in handy given the amount of seating

This review is for the bar area. I decided to stop by with co-workers for lunch; first we were told the seating area was closed for the private event. We were forced to stay by the bar area for lunch. After waiting for 10 minutes, we asked the bartender for the lunch menu and we were told we had to order drinks first as kitchen was busy and it'd take a while to get our order. We had to wait additional 15-20 minutes to get our appetizers and drinks. After getting mediocre nachos and crappy mixed drinks, we decided to abandon this place and went across the street to Keg Room. I noticed that prices were much higher than Keg Room (right across the street) and bartenders were very rude.

I also noticed something odd on my credit card account. I paid the bill with tip but however it post to my account a day or so later. I also saw the tip amount in pending on its own???Someone is clearly not paying attention while doing their job or trying to pull a fast one on customers? Make sure to check your receipts.

I wanted to give this place only 1 star but settled on 2 only because of the atmosphere. Service was very slow!! Bartenders were grumpy and don't seem to pay too much attention to their customers....

I came here twice, but the first time me and my group of friends were turned away by the rude hostess because of private event. The following is my experience when I returned to redeem my drink as part of the NYC Autumn Tippler.

Food: I started with the French onion soup which seemed like it was made hours ago and was just popped into the microwave. It was lukewarm to room temperature when I received it and the cheese was cold and difficult to break apart with the spoon--sort of like trying to cut into an old sponge. Who knows if that was real cheese that I ate, Their signature burger is nothing to write home about. It was good but nothing really that sets it apart.

Drinks: I was surprised that they had pretty late drinks happy hour specials (till 9pm). I asked for the dark and stormy as part of the happy hour initially but they did not have dark rum therefore they could not make it. When I tried to redeem my drink from the Autumn Tippler Passbook, of course they did not have the drink listed. Therefore they substituted with other drinks in their happy hour menu--which was limited to a well drink or cosmos or beer/wine. I was disappointed by their limited substitutions and the quality of the drinks I received. Even with their late happy hour, I probably would not come back here.

Service: Initial encounter with the hostess was very rude as I mentioned above, but I cannot blame her as it was a busy Saturday night. I came back on a quieter Monday night. It took a bit of time to get service initially, perhaps because my table was situated a bit outside the main dinning room. Then, as the food started appearing I realized they had forgotten to give us napkins which became evident as I struggled to eat the soup and cut through that leather-like "melted" cheese. The waiter would periodically check on us which became more frequent when another party sat next to the table next to us.

Vibe: Very nice interior decor with the red lighting and booth tables. Despite the chill vibe, I probably would not come back.

This venue is right in herald square and they have great happy hour specials. $6 for well drinks, they also have $8 beer and shot deal. This place is very spacious, great decor, and have ample amount of TVs. The bartender was welcoming. I'll definitely come back for good music and affordable drinks.

      Solid 3.5.

I came here for a March Madness event. We had a private section in the back-- so I didn't have much interaction with the staff other than the two individuals who were taking drink orders and another gentlemen who was cleaning the tables, etc..

Upon entry, I noticed it was a bit of madhouse, and basically difficult to hear yourself. I mean, it was understandable because of the NCAA tournament, but still seemed a bit too chaotic for my liking. The hostess in the front was slightly rude when I first arrived. Luckily for me, I ran into one of the hosts of the party after I just decided to stand outside for a few minutes to shoot off an e-mail.

The bar itself is a rather large bar with tv's and seating-- so I'm sure it's good for various sporting events. They were both pleasant, however, the initial server was very forgetful and would take quite awhile to return. I understand it was a lot of orders at the same time, but he on two occasions just completely forgot and I had to seek out someone else.

Overall, it's a nice bar with ample space for sporting events. I would return here in the future, if I were in the midtown area.

We tried to engage with the bar tender , we sat literally on her lip at the service station ! We're Irish & 'TRIED' to make conversation on many of occasions and we'd just about ,got an answer and that was that !!!!
Maybe you need to get some Irish staff behind that bar with a personality as there was certainly none at all .
Myself & my husband even asked her about the colcanon an Irish delicacy and you're famous sweet potato fries both of which she had not any knowledge or opinion on. we got an answer saying 'I've never even tasted it'!
Plastic paddy nonsense. No cead mile failte.
