I recently got back into comics. The owner was very helpful and very nice to provide information about comics. He also has a decent selection of back issues that I've been looking for. He even holds comics for me because I work all day. It's a small shop but decent selection. Also it's in my neighborhood and very convenient. I go there every week for my comics!

Maximum Distractions truly houses maximum distractions--so much so that I spent at least an hour digging through boxes to see what I could unearth. There were a good amount of back issues I was interested in, but so many weren't bagged and boarded and were definitely beginning to show some shelf wear. The bigger issues, though, is that nothing is clearly organized by series--or even publisher. There had clearly been some attempts to sort things out, but without any major success. It was frustrating to say the least.
The owner was nice and happy to talk to you, and his interactions with other customers of varying sorts were very friendly as well. Sadly, there was a very offering radio station playing the whole time I was there detailing 9/11 conspiracies and whether or not Hunter Biden should be in jail. The owner said it was really just 'background noise,' but it sort of started to weird me out a bit.
Regardless, i found a few books I wanted and decided to head out. At checkout, I paid with cash and wasn't charged any additional sales tax--which I always appreciate.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - John Paul Y.Chicago, IL4883023Nov 4, 2022
Pretty loaded with back issues. Cool place though somewhat disorganized. The owner definitely will help you find something. I asked for prison related comics and he had a few recs like some Amazing Spiderman issues and some comic called The Prisoner.

The best comic book store left in Chicago. Perfectly partially unorganized. Super nice owner. More back issues than almost anywhere.

Hobby shop with large collection of comics. Lots of card gaming as well. Cluttered but not as bad as ssd one of the shops out there.
Had some supplies like boxes but not a great selection of that. I am sure they could order whatever.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Brian D.Chicago, IL03Jul 24, 2016
Awesome place, was there for my first ever DnD game, I got hooked and decided to buy the players handbook here. (To show some support, rather than doing the online thing)
I had a few minutes to browse before the game started, seems like a really good spread of comics, and an entire wall of table top.
Grant is a super nice guy too, so get out there and support!Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Humberto Omar M.Chicago, IL27223519Jun 3, 2019
Let me begin. I do love comic shops. I have been to quiet a few. When I heard this one was a few blocks on Montrose from work. I had to stop in. During my break to my trip there. In short, I wasn't disappionted. The owner greeted me as soon as I walked in. That was a bonus and off to a great start. As i began to broswe around. The collection of comics is impressive. All in order. There is so much to choose from, if I could spend an hour or two just looking around. I found a three gems of comic books, one that I wasn't excepting to find. When I asked about book one, he said it has been out for a while and the price has gone up. Truthfully he knows his comics, we had a good chat before I went out. Very clean location, form the comics to the graphic novels, gifts and more. If you are in the area, stop by you won't regret it. I will be back very soon.

Still a wonderful chill store. We now have a great group of Magic Players on Fridays! All are always welcome!

One of really only a few options in the area for comic books. Take my son here once a month or so. The guy that owns the place is cool. Will order you whatever you're looking for.

This place is fantastic- they always have an awesome selection of new and vintage comics- plus they carry some really unique graphic novels that exist outside of the comic realm. In addition, the owner is great- he's funny and always willing to give some choice recommendations!
