Mason C.
After purchasing the Maui Tacos franchise for the Island of Oahu in late 2019, Mason & Kelly Cummings have invested in reinvigorating the Maui-Mex menu and customer experience for their Kailua town & Pearl Highlands shopping center restaurant locations. The new Menu features locally caught fish and an abundance of made-in-Hawaii ingredients. At their customers request they have added a build your own burrito and bowl section, an array of street tacos, big pe`ahi nachos [named after Jaws a world renown surfing spot on Maui], fajitas and quesadillas. The infamous Maui Tacos Salsa bar and popular Salsa Pineapple Passion remains true to their original recipes when first created back in 1993. Visit www.mauitacosoahu.com for information and ordering.

Q:
What kind of fish is in the fish tacos?
A:
I don't know other than it isn't the local fish. It is tender and tasty. One of the best fish tacos I have had and I lived and traveled all over Mexico. It is a 10+.. While in Honolulu I had different fish dishes and the ones they used was the… more

We were in Kailua and made a quick stop in here. We tried one of their new items, the Meat Street Burritos. It comes in three variations : El Toro, Wikiwiki Shrimp and Pollo Sabroso. We ordered the El Toro (steak, cilantro, onion, pico de gallo and fresh lime juice). It has half a pound of protein.
The burrito was huge and excellent. It had great flavor and the steak was just right. The only thing is that the inside was a little cold due to all the fresh ingredients. It came with tortilla chips and salsa. Perfect! We washed it down with Mango Jarritos. I love those drinks.
Check in on Yelp to get free churros. It came with two pieces in foil with caramel dipping sauce. This was the best part of the meal. The churros were warm, crispy and chewy. It was so good. Get the churros.Helpful 22Thanks 6Love this 24Oh no 0 - Dec 8, 2023
Maui Tacos is definitely a place that I regularly go to. The food is usually always good and on point, Only downside is that it can get really busy and the wait can be 30 minutes or so. Service is ehh. Might be because it gets busy and stressful sometimes which i understand.
I always get the 3 street tacos plate (with your choice of meat, I always get Carne Asada) which comes with your choice of rice and beans. The carne asada fries and wet burritos are good as well! I always make sure to get side cups of the chipotle aioli sauce because it's so creamy and delicious.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 2Oh no 0 - Britt T.Albany, CA110524Apr 22, 2024
I was excited to see Tinga and Al pastor on the menu and I was disappointed. I'm a bit of a taco snob after living in Mexico, but these were bland and boring. However, the fish taco was pretty good. If I had to come back, I would order the fish tacos. But I'm more likely to go somewhere else instead.

I wasn't expecting much from a Mexican place in Oahu, but damn dawg yall couldn't meet that standard? This is my first review in 5 years that I had the app and I'm only adding it so yall can fix yourselves so no one else is met with disappointment.

We visited Maui Tacos this weekend and ordered the Street Tacos with fish and an enchilada plate. The enchiladas were really great! The spice level was perfect and it was a large portion. The street tacos were also a large portion along with a side of refried beans and cilantro rice. The fish wasn't really seasoned but the aioli sauce gave them a great flavor. The cilantro rice didn't appear to have any cilantro and just tasted like rice. This is a great taco place but I don't know that I'd go out of my way to go again if I wanted an authentic flavor packed taco plate. The enchiladas were definitely worthy of another trip!

Hubby and I came here for dinner. We actually went to Target across the street and then walked over. This place gets pretty busy.
I decided to get two fish tacos with refried beans and cilantro rice. The tacos were delicious as the fish wasn't deep fried in batter which I like. It was tender and slightly seasoned. The cilantro rice was mild in flavor, and the refried beans had cheese melted on top. If you check in on Yelp, you get free two churros with the caramel sauce. I washed everything down with lemonade. I didn't want to drink soda as it would keep me awake.
Everything was delicious. There was even a salsa bar on the side. I got to try the pineapple salsa and this was so good. Worth coming back for.
There were tables available but it filled up quickly. Plenty of tables outside as well
Music was chill and loved the vibe inside. Definitely would come back to try other dishes..Helpful 24Thanks 1Love this 22Oh no 0 - 12963Oct 3, 2023
The Cali burrito is one of my favorites! I've had my order wrong a few times but it's always been taken care of, it's just a little inconvenient. Staff is friendly and fast.

Service is usually decent but the food is hit and miss. It can be very good or very bad depending on who is making it. They always seem to forget something that should come with your meal, like chips or various condiments. Suggest not taking your order home without checking the bag first on-site. I think they just need better quality control so as a customer be your own advocate and you can get your money's worth. Prices are pretty good and their plates and burritos can easily feed two people.

It would be a solid 4, but there is sometimes one element or another of the meal that is lacking, like overcooked or stale chips, or sometimes the guacamole or lettuce tastes kind of old. Still, overall pretty good, and we love the salsa, which is why I was surprised to read some of the very negative reviews here.
Then we got lunch there today, and oh boy was that one greasy, soggy, nearly inedible mess. I just have to wonder if most of the bad reviews are coming from lunchtime, because it was a whole different experience from what we are used to at night.
I'm going to give it an overall 3 stars because we usually enjoy it, but if my review were based on today's meal alone I would have a hard time giving it even 1 star. Management might want to check into what the lunch crew is up to, and we'll be sticking to dinner. - Eric Y.San Francisco Bay Area, CA01085Jan 11, 2024
I've been to this restaurant twice. I ordered the fish taco plate and it was delicious. The ambiance is ok. Service lacked aloha spirit both times, though the second time was a little better. The one thing that ticked me off and I took off a star was that when you order chips and salsa, you pay about $7 and you get a small serving of chips and no salsa; you are told to go to the free salsa bar and help yourself. That's a total rip off. They're supposed to give you chopped up tomatoes salsa, which isn't offered at the free salsa bar. I should give them only one star but I admit the rest of the experience was good.

We ordered food to go and found that the service was quick and the food was delicious. They have a variety of tacos to choose from, all of which come with their own unique toppings. Inside they have a little hot sauce/salsa bar which was tasty! They also have 2-3 tables out front for outdoor seating, which I love for when I want to bring my dog.
