Am I the only person that thought this place was mediocre? The cherry stick we purchased was overly sweet and just... unpleasant.. We both ordered bacon egg and cheese on a bagel to go. This is the first place I've ever gotten a BE&C in a bag on a tiny plate with toothpicks holding the sides together. The bagel wasn't boiled so essentially, it was just a roll shaped like a bagel. Honestly, this was the nail in coffin for me. I was craving a BE&C on a REAL bagel. I ordered it and I don't feel like that was what I got.

The Mackinaw Bakery and Coffehouse is incredible! It isn't right on the Main Street in mackinaw so I think sometimes it can get missed, but it just steps away, around the corner from the main downtown road.
When you arrive, you may be stunned with how busy it is or how long the line is, but it goes SO fast. When it was my turn to order, the worker was so so kind. She didn't make me feel rushed (because there was so much to choose from). Once she took my name for my breakfast sandwich order, she only called me by my name. After I was done with my order and paid, I waited for my breakfast sandwich and realized I forgot to order a coffee. I stepped back in line and she said "what can I help you with Madalyn!" It was so nice to be treated like that. She was very personable and had served customers with respect and a smile. The customer service was above and beyond.
The cinnamon rolls were the best I have ever had. There are two different kinds they make and they both are equally delicious. (yes I did get both!) They we're HUGE cinnamon rolls and only a few bucks! Their pricing is very reasonable and almost too reasonable! I also had a caramel frappe and it was blended perfectly. It didn't have ice chunks. The breakfast sandwich I had was very good too. It was on an Asiago bagel which was homemade. The only thing that bothered me was that the egg on it was that fake tasting square egg. Either way it was still good after I took the egg off!
The space is very big with seating options and a gift shop area. They also had a grab and go fridge with overnight oats, various drinks, etc.
We had such a great experience the first visit we went back the next day and had another visit!
5 stars for sure!!Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Jul 7, 2023
THIS is the place to stop before, during and after your visit to Mackinac Island! Everything here was tasty and they have the most friendly service. The lines go quickly and they offer a multitude of pastries and sandwiches. We had the croissant sausage and egg (was as large as a full size paper plate it was served on!) and a bagel sandwich. We also ordered many pastries: chocolate croissant (DELICIOUS and HUGE!), blueberry scone, cream cheese croissant and a peanut butter filled long john. Wowza good!!!

We were surprised how large this place is, and how easily they accommodated our group. This is a quaint coffee shop that offers a great variety of breakfast foods, and beverages. My wife and sister got coffee. I am not a coffee drinker, so I settled for a chai latte. we all got breakfast sandwiches to go along with our drinks. The food was delicious and my wife thought it was the best cup of coffee she had our entire vacation. My chai latte was great too.
We are planning to come back and visit the area next summer or early fall, and this will definitely be one of our regular stops.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - 36452Jul 19, 2023

Great place for baked goods, but they have excellent breakfast sandwiches! We always stop there prior to driving back downstate after our visits north. They also have a nice selection of jams, jellies, and the like.
Highly recommended! Go there for breakfast instead of... Well, you know.. Let's just say a fast food place.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Jun 13, 2022
I love donuts, but am very hard on donut places. Largely because I've been to the donut mountain and I've seen its apex and because donuts are terrible for you. They are just the worst. But they also bring so much joy! Which is why for me it's important to distinguish between very good donuts and great ones.
To be clear, even very good donuts are quite hard to find, and I'm so glad I found the ones at Mackinaw Bakery & Coffeehouse. Thank you Yelp... again.
As I get older, and am slowing down in my donut consumption, I decided I was just going to try two. This was my second breakfast, so I wasn't hungry in the first place. But when the universe conspires to put a place like this in your path, who am I to argue?
I went with the custard long john (or do we say bismark up here?) and an old fashioned plain cake donut. The later might sound like an odd choice, but when in an old school donut shop, I say order the old school donut. And remember what I said earlier about seeing the top of donut mountain? You'll never believe what is at its apex!
Well, the custard bismark was really very good. It was narrower and longer than others I have found in my travels, and I enjoyed the form factor. I also appreciated how well it was stuffed with a silky custard. Unfortunately, I neglected to snap a photo of the cross section, but the filling went quite close to the edge, which was delightful. There was notable cocoa content in its icing, but that could have been pushed a little further, and the yeasted dough itself could have benefited from a bit more rise.
Still, I would go out of my way to have another of these beauties the next time I roll through this area.
The old fashioned, maybe not so much. It was perfectly fine, but there wasn't anything special about it. The same was true for the donut shop coffee.
Maybe the espresso based drinks are better, but donut shop coffee doesn't have to be great. It just has to be assertive enough to balance the fat and sugar from the sweet, fried treats. And it has to be caffeinated enough to counteract the impending crash from the white flour and sugar. And this cup of coffee totally did the trick.
The staff was lovely, and I really appreciated the classic feel of the exterior signage and the inside of the shop. To be able to travel back in time for $5.37 is one helluva deal, especially in Mackinaw City.Helpful 10Thanks 0Love this 7Oh no 0 - David R.San Francisco, CA01Jan 10, 2024

Met one of the owner/baker and you can tell he definitely cares about his products. His confections are not overly sweet but just right. No sugary aftertaste that you get with most pastries. You can pre-order or take your chances going later. Don't wait to long
