Decent location but like most restaurants we been to in Berlin so far, way too understaffed and as a result it takes ages for any order, or even just getting a server.
The food was, average at best, and the pretzel was a tat stale, while the pork knuckle was quite dry, so all in all was a fairly average meal. The only saving grace is that the price wasn't silly so at least I didn't feel ripped off coming out
It was a nice environment though, especially if you book you might just get your own table without needing to share table.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Aaron S.Manchester, United Kingdom1028431313927Aug 10, 2017
Lowerbrau au Gendarmenmarkt is a German restaurant and brewery in the Gendarmenmarkt area of Berlin, This place has actually earned the nickname "Good cop, bad cop shop" from me, mainly down to my conversation with two members of staff.
When I came in, I was greeted. Well greeted in the terms of rudely ignored as he tried to make his best attempts to look away and do "busy work" by a man, who basically told me there was no gluten free, he didn't seem to want to speak to me, before going back to his job.
Eventually, another member of staff came along who told me I could have everything, which I doubted as items such as bread and sausage normally contain gluten, so I then became rather confused with eating here, as I didn't want to become ill on my vacation in Berlin, with two different staff members telling me contradicting information.
As I decided to go through the menu, hoping to talk it through with the waiter, he didn't offer to sit me down, he just left me too it, without explaining anything further so I feel customer service at this Lowerbrau is really poor, and the impression the staff gave me is that they didn't care, especially the first one who "served me", this probably isn't the nicest place to go with families etc, to eat due to it being more of a German brewery than a restaurant, so the smells of beer around this place are strong, sadly due to what I have mentioned I feel this place deserves a single one star rating.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Jul 1, 2011
I ate here with people from my Stanford program last winter. It was my first time in Berlin, and I had no idea what to expect.
Of course, German cuisine is known for its würste! I ordered the brauhauswurst, and it was delicious. I also really enjoyed the red cabbage and the potatoes -- signature German food. This is also a great place for beer -- and lots of it.
I also liked how spacious the restaurant is. From my experience, European dining seems to be smaller and clumped, but this restaurant was really great to sit down and eat at -- especially for over 20 people! I definitely want to eat here again.Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - John B.Los Angeles, CA11523093Nov 5, 2018
I should have checked the reviews before trying this place. The foot was ok but the service was annoyingly slow.
The location was very convenient to my hotel, so as the weather wasn't great I thought I would give them a try.
I ordered the pork knuckle which was very tasty. The sauerkraut was good, but the dumplings were very pasty.
They have a policy that you can seat yourself, but it wasn't clear when I walked in. So, I stood there and waited to be greeted, but the many people who walked by just looked at me. The restaurant wasn't that busy at all and I felt weird not even being acknowledged. Finally, after I wandered back and forth I was told I could sit wherever I liked.
The first beer and food came out rather quickly, but no one ever checked to see how the food was, and when my beer was empty, no one came to ask me for another. Finally, I went over to the bar area and asked for another beer. But, she blew me off until another server came by. The server then asked if I would like another of the same, and I said yes please and returned my seat.
I then waited 10 minutes and even though the restaurant wasn't busy never received another beer.
When my original server came by, he looked at me and said, oh you're not in the computer. Apparently that means I don't exist. Even though I clearly had an empty beer glass and food sitting in front of me.
Finally, the lady from the bar brought me another beer. Unfortunately, it wasn't what I have been drinking. But, wanting to finish my food before they close the restaurant, I just accepted it and finished knowing I would never return here again.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Enoch C.Markham, Canada27310Dec 6, 2019
Food is okay, service is slow af and generally bad quality. Waiter said it was the worst day he's had, but given the rest of these reviews, I don't think it was an anomaly.

My girlfriend and I ventured in after a long day of sight seeing. We were famished and craving some sausages before leaving the following day. My girlfriend is a flight attendant and as much as we would like to have sat down for a meal, we had to order the food to go because it was almost 8pm and she had to work the next day.
We placed our order for the 19 inch sausage, apple strudel, and a chicken salad.
We told the waiter up front, in German, that it was a to go order. He said okay and we proceeded to wait. And wait. And wait. We received one update when my girlfriend asked and were told it would be five minutes. 20 minutes later nothing had arrived.
Beyond hunger and frustration I finally asked when the food would be ready. The bartender looked at me, didn't say anything, checked on our order and came back to tend bar, walking right past me and not saying a word.
At this point my girlfriend and I decided to leave. It was simply too late and we had waited too long. Another 15 minutes passed and we decided to pay for our water and leave. At that moment the food arrived.
We took the food, still tipping for horrible service and left.
Upon returning to the hotel we learned that they provided us with no utensils, forcing us to scavenge the hotel in search of a way to eat our food. No napkins were provided. No mustard was provided either and I may be mistaken but, that seems like a sausage sin in Germany. My girlfriend said no ice cream with the strudel. It came with ice cream.
There are so many wonderful places to dine in Berlin and even taking cultural differences in dining into account, you would do best to avoid this place. Unless you speak high German apparently.
On a separate note, if you choose to ignore this and go, the food is decent-good.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - P M.Middle Village, NY23295Jun 19, 2017
Poor service.. told " it's going to be a while" to order 3 biers & pretzels?!
About 20 people sitting inside, we are the only ones sitting outdoors.

It's amazing how bad service can be... the guy in the checkered shirt is unfriendly as hell and steals your money. 'Sry I don't have 10 cents' next time...
The fries were undercooked and took ages. Disgusting!
To sum it up - overpriced, unfriendly and dishonest. Will never come back.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Brett V.Liberty Township, OH0131Jul 2, 2019
This is sad excuse for a German beer hall and garden. We had very slow service and the beers on tap were not very good, which is hard to do in Germany! The outside "garden" is really just a poorly decorated patio next to a busy intersection. You can and will do better. Walk the extra 5 minutes to Erdinger.
