There is free street parking although with 2 hour limit on most blocks. It can be difficult to find spots in the evenings so plan on leaving early if you are driving in for an evening class.

Lumo's is such a great edition to the Fairmount/Philly community! The space is absolutely beautiful, the people are friendly and I love the option of barre AND yoga - it's nice to mix it up! Not only is it a great space to exercise and expand your heart, they are finding ways to give back! They offer a couple donation based classes during the week that go towards some very special organizations!

It is hard to believe I haven't gotten around to reviewing this fantastic spot on Green Street! My neighborhood studio and a haven from whatever stress is brewing in my life, Lumos has created a community that is inclusive and welcoming. I seek out their Wednesday night $8 stretch and restore classes whenever I am feeling particularly chaotic, and can't say enough great things about Josie, the check in staff, and the environment itself.
Great prop room with bolsters/blankets/anything else you could want, convenient water tank right in the lobby, easy to use locker system with keys, and two studio rooms. I've taken classes in both rooms and appreciate that Lumos offers barre, restorative yoga, yin yoga, vinyasa, and much more. They now have a location open on Parrish as well, and I look forward to stopping by very soon. Easy online booking system and reasonable membership prices - they have a great deal for your first month of unlimited at $70.
Lumos was an incredible gift to me when I first moved into the neighborhood and continues to be a place I go to seek calm and comfort. Thank you for existing, Lumos, and cheers to many more wonderful years on Green.Helpful 10Thanks 2Love this 10Oh no 0 - Mar 15, 2023
So I have been loyal to Thrive Yoga and Pilates since moving to Philly but after doing a sound bath meditation with Eumi at Thrive I followed her website and saw that she was teaching here at Lumos. I had never heard of Lumos before and going to a new yoga studio (at least new for me) can be somewhat daunting. Some studios are more commercialized and all about the athleticism, some are more traditional and teach strictly Hatha Vinyasa or Ashtanga, and some are a mix of other modalities and yoga like how Thrive and this place is. Immediately upon entering I felt at peace. I'm pretty good at picking up on vibes and this studio has such good vibes. From the zen like decorations that adorn the walls, to the artwork displayed in the narrow hallways near the yoga rooms, it has a very peaceful aura to it. What I particularly like is how they catered to the needs of the patrons. They have a water station for you to get water or fill your water bottle (with Harry Potter/Disney Pop Figurines on top of it--see photos). They have a large coat room and lockers that you can store your belongings and a seating area where you can out your shoes. The first class I took there was a Yin Community Class for $8. What a gift that is! Yoga classes can get expensive these days ranging in the mid to upper twenties for a drop in and a membership as well. I like the fact that they allow everyone no matter your socioeconomic status to take a class. What I really loved was how the studios had these pretty Christmas lights placed on the floor. It casts this dim glow that just totally destimulated me and put me at such a state of ease. I felt so relaxed. I also found it so kind that they prep the room for you with the props like blocks and bolsters. The flows were not difficult either. So far my favorite flow was the first class of the Chakra series taught by Josie. She added a nice touch with her homemade essential oil blend. I loved it so much I ended up buying it:) I am looking forward to taking Eumi's sound bath meditation class as well as the second class in Josie's chakra series. I feel grateful to have stumbled upon Lumos. I know I'll be back for sure. Make sure to bring your vaccination card. They do request you have proof of a Covid vaccine.

Lumos is a lovely little studio right in the heart of Fairmount. They've created a welcoming environment; from the first time I took a class, I felt comfortable. I love that they are body positive and inclusive and that they cater to all skill levels.
Before Lumos, I had never taken a barre class but the first one I attempted was so much fun. I never thought I would look forward to workout classes but I genuinely love going to Lumos. Their instructors are friendly, kind and always provide modifications when needed. It helps that the classes are small so the instructors are able to give everyone personalized attention. I love that I can have a tougher workout or a lighter one, depending on how I'm feeling. It's great leaving a studio feeling proud of what I have accomplished instead of bad about what I'm not able to do.
If you are looking for a great place to workout in a lovely community, Lumos is the place to go!Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Jul 1, 2018
Wonderful addition to the Art Museum neighborhood. This studio provides a great variety of class types and times throughout the week. I no longer have a gym membership and prefer to pop in at various places in the city. For the places I purchase packages from, I'd like a variety of times and class types to choose from. Lumos fits the bill.
So far I've taken a Saturday a.m. (Lumos Flow), Sunday a.m. (Lumos Barre), and Monday late p.m. (Starlit Flow) class. Loved all of them and found them to be good workouts without being too challenging.
There are two studios, one yoga and the other for barre. There's a HIIT class, too, but not sure which of the two rooms it's in.
Instructors are friendly, approachable, and today Larkin lent me some grippy socks for the barre class. Love that!
Yoga mats are not provided for the yoga classes but mats are provided for barre. Grippy socks for barre are totally recommended unless you want an extra challenge. I do not want the extra challenge, thank you very much!
Lockers are provided to secure your belongings and there's a bottle filling station. They sell these nice stainless, wide mouth bottles and I'm wondering how long I can hold off before buying a gold one. So darn cute!
There is a restroom and separate changing room (no shower). There's also a comfortable seating area at the entrance along with some Lumos branded items for purchase.
Love the subtle Harry Potter nods. This studio is just so warm and comfortable...really great place!Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0Business owner information

Thanks so much, Tina! We love having you as part of our community - and are always thrilled to meet fellow Harry Potter fans! We're excited to have begun a rental barre sock program now, too! (But don't worry - Larkin will always lend you her socks!) See you soon!

I really liked this yoga studio! On Sunday nights they have a community class - it is a $5 donation and it goes to grassroots charity to allow access to yoga to people of all types of backgrounds. I can definitely get behind that.
The staff is extremely welcoming and friendly. It's alway intimidating trying a new studio, but I was at ease walking in here. They have lockers with keys - so there is lots of storage for shoes, coats, and valuables.
The studio was clean and spacious and is in a very centralized location in Fairmount. I will definitely be back.Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0Business owner information

Thank you so much for taking a chance on us! We know exactly how intimidating it can be to walk into a new studio/class, and are so grateful and gratified to hear that you found us to be welcoming. Our Charitable Partnerships are incredibly important to how we operate our business, and we love hearing that that resonated for you. We can't wait to have you back with us at Lumos!

Lumos has become my favorite place in the neighborhood.
Pre-pandemic, I looked forward to my hour of exercise, which made me feel simultaneously exhausted, strong, and relaxed. Everybody is incredibly welcoming and inclusive; they go out of their way to ensure that no person-- regardless of color, gender identity, body type, or athletic ability-- feels intimidated or overwhelmed in this space.
During quarantine they began offering live classes via zoom, and they've been building up their on-demand library (try it FREE for a week), which is now pretty expansive. I will always prefer in-person classes (outside of global pandemics), but I've come to love working out at home with my favorite Lumos instructors.
Each instructor brings their own personality into the class and has their own niche. Candace cracks silly jokes and tries to make you laugh during the hundreds, Taft's playlist keeps you moving (til you CAN'T), and Lauren tells you to close your eyes if you're sweating into them, but also makes sure if you're not feeling a move, you modify or do something else. All the instructors are friendly, positive, and invested in helping you increase your strength while having fun.
Thank you to the bad-ass owners for creating such a lovely, calming space that I can't wait to enjoy again, and for adapting their whole entire business to suit the needs and safety of their community while supporting their instructors.
If you have a chance to take a class (in-person or online), do it. You'll feel amazing.Helpful 4Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0Business owner information

Aug 29, 2018Previous reviewI've been meaning to drop a review for awhile now-- I love everything about this place. It's beautiful and inviting (LOVE the Harry Potter name inspo/ accoutrements scattered about the entrance), and the classes are fantastic. I've mostly stuck with their amazing barre classes, which I find very challenging, without being incredibly sore the next day, but I've also checked out some yoga and their LIIT class (which I surprisingly found to be less challenging than barre). Check the website and class descriptions to see if you need a yoga mat, but if you forget, the first rental is complimentary.
It seems like they routinely offer discounted class packages; I purchased a 20-class pack in early July (who doesn't love a deal?) and I take a class every time I have a husband or grandparent to watch the kids. They do have pretty tight expirations on their class packs, but again, who doesn't love a deal? They also offered an early bird class price in August that was an amazing value. I really appreciate this because the cost of workout classes can really add up.
I love this place. I love having them in the neighborhood and I hope they continue to succeed. Check it out. - Lauren S.Philadelphia, PA2083832Jan 31, 2020Updated review

I love working out at Lumos! The women owned studio is run with professionalism, kindness and fantastic top notch customer service. These bada** gals are setting a wonderful example of how business can thrive while being flexible and accommodating to your clients. I LOVE every single thing about Lumos -their classes, awesome instructors AND to top if off it's possibly the prettiest decor in a fitness studio in the city. Thank you Lumos for building a community that embraces all the things I love about Philly, women, healthy body image and building strength.

This place was so cute!! I took my first barre class here and loved it. This instructor was great and started on time (very important to me) and kept me engaged and moving the entire class. I'd love to go back and try a yoga class as well.
