I went there this sunday for my first ever time and was welcomed in by the nice cashier Kaden. he had Helped recommend some dishes on the menu to me to try which was so nice of a person to do so. I had got the carne asada fries, California burrito, churros and it was amazing. 10/10 will recommend and thx to the amazing worker Kaden

Lolita's is a San Diego staple. Their portions are on the bigger size but their carne asada wasn't as well seasoned as I hoped. Some bits tatsed like salted beef while others had the seasonings. The large size of carne asada fries is good enough to feed 2-4 people depending on apetites and you can expect for it to be loaded with meat. Their salsa bar only has two types of salsa, thinly sliced raddishes, and green onions. Don't expect to come here and be waited on. It is a fast-food style establishment with a bathroom for guests only.
Their to-go container was simply a paper plate with a piece of foil that barely fits.
The only critique I can offer is to sear the carne asada more, it tasted like it was steamed in a big heap of meat on a flat top.

It's been nearly 10 years since the last time I've been here so I figured that I'd write an update. The food here has probably been consistent throughout the years but I think I've also just found better Mexican food places throughout the years.
My friends and I came in during what should be the lunch rush however there was no line when we came in, so that was great for us. I ordered my usual carne asada fries ($11.95 for a small). They give you a number to put on your table after you order and they bring your order right to you. I don't think I sat down for even 3 minutes before they brought my fries out to me . They also have a salsa bar to the side, and if you want limes, you will have to ask for it at the counter.
When I took my first bite of carne asada I thought that it was way too salty, so I don't think that they mixed it well enough or something after adding salt to the dish. Otherwise the rest of the meal was fine. The small size still gave a lot that I could only finish half of the plate. It might have actually been better for our group to just split one large size.
I've had better carne asada, but if we're looking for a place to hang out that's more in the middle of San Diego, then Lolita's is the place to go. I'm also glad to see that it still carries lunch specials everyday, even on weekends.

They put a bunch of sour cream and guacamole, and they have a salsa bar so that you can get as much red or green sauce as you want. This is also one of the few mexican places that I've seen with lunch specials! Throughout the week they have certain plates with beans, rice, and a medium drink all for just about $8!
They have pretty big portions and I'm thankful for the half size carne asada fries ($7) because otherwise I definitely wouldn't be able to finish it. Even then, I could barely stuff in the last few bites.
This place is a little heavy on the cheese, for me at least. For someone who's kind of sensitive to dairy (but not so much to stop eating it), it was a little too much for me. Also, the fish burrito was like 75% lettuce and 25% fish that was pushed to 1 side. I kind of wish that they either held back a little bit on the lettuce or added more fish. - Mar 4, 2024
The food was fine, nothing really stood out to me as being special. I think my experience would have been better if I looked at the menu more. I ordered Rolled Tacos and saw they had a choice of Guacamole or Sour Cream. I assumed that was in addition to all of the other delicious toppings that usually come with them. It wasn't, that would be Super Rolled Tacos.
Service was pleasant enough but again nothing special. It would have been nice if we had been asked if we wanted hot sauce or at least told there was a hot sauce station. I should've asked I suppose but am still used to the old days when you got condiments without having to ask.
The place was clean and decorated nicely. I'll go again sometime but I'm not in a hurry to do so.

Tsunami burrito is the best here my favorite burrito in San Diego. I just wish that inflation didn't happened because the burrito are way too expensive now :( they should open this in Texas...

Came here as we wanted chilaquiles for breakfast. However, unfortunately we were disappointed that only offered breakfast burritos and a quesadilla, minus 1 star as we expected more since they have all the ingredients to make chilaquiles.
So the breakfast burrito was a hefty portion of eggs, chorizo, and potatoes all wrapped up in a flour tortilla. I would have preferred if my flour tortilla would have been warmed up more so it would be a bit more crispy.
The breakfast quesadilla had some eggs and bacon. It had way too much cheddar cheese for my liking, but my boyfriend liked it.
They offer a salsa bar with either green or red salsa. Neither salsas are labeled, so be careful as the red salsa is deceiving, it has a weird taste and rather spicy. The green salsa was tasty.
Overall the service was nice. The ladies at the counter were friendly and the food was prompt. The overall ambiance is more like a glorified taco shop, its nicely decorated, super clean, and music choice was good as we appreciated that it was not blasting like other taco shops. I think their lunch and dinner options are better choices than breakfast.

Absolutely the smallest carne asada burrito in the history of Carne Asada burritos. This is like the size that a wife makes for her husband to take to work, but they get six of them! Completely shocked! It was $10.50 which may be lower than other places but you will need to buy two burritos to get "one".
Thanks for the memories Lolita's.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Dec 21, 2023
It's been awhile since I've been here but my friend and I were in the area so we stopped by! I got the super rolled tacos which were 5 rolled tacos (beef) with guac, sour cream, cheese, pico & lettuce and my friend got a fish taco. They have a self serve salsa bar.
My friend and I ate here so they gave us a number and brought the food out to the table. I honestly forgot how good this place is !!!

Love this place! Always a must when we're in SD. We got the California and 2 in 1 burrito. The 2 in 1 is so good when eaten fresh cause of the crunch of the rolled tacos inside. So delish. California was good as well but I think they can add a little more meat and a little less potato fries.
The location we go to is usually clean and stocked up on the sauces so we appreciate that. Service is good as they get us in and out. Nothing beyond that.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - 5586682173Nov 3, 2023
When I first came to San Diego back in 2016, many friends informed me that this restaurant was one of the best Mexican places to check out. And based on my goldfish memory, I did remember the food was great! Luckily, the restaurant was opened for breakfast as my boyfriend and I were waiting for our flower order.
The location that we went to is located next to Katsu Cafe and Yuk Dae Jang San Diego on the corner of a plaza across of 99 Ranch Market in upper Kearny Mesa on Clairemont Mesa Blvd. There's a huge parking lot with ample stalls.
I really wanted a breakfast item and ordered their Chorizo, Potato & Egg burrito. My boyfriend got their Jaime's Special Torta. The food took a loooong time. It made me wonder if they had forgotten about us as the restaurant wasn't that full and people who ordered before us got their food first. BUT finally, our food came out after 15 minutes. The portions were huge for the price we paid which was such a steal! My boyfriend and halfsies, and they both had really good flavor. Both of them weren't overly oily which was great as that's something we wouldn't want first thing in the morning. I really liked my burrito even though it was very simple. My boyfriend really liked the torta. The first time where I ended up liking my own food instead of his LOL.
Overall, really great place to actually have breakfast for a great price. As we only went for breakfast items, this review was only focused on their breakfast portion. We will definitely be back for their street tacos and other items in the future!
