Loco Taco is still a go-to taco joint for me, especially during COVID. They have a drive-thru where you can order and wait while they're preparing your food.
They don't have a ton of veggie options so I usually resort to getting my tacos with the beans and rice inside, plus toppings. I know this is blasphemous but they don't judge. My partner loves the tacos al pastor!Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0Nov 23, 2018Previous reviewLegit tacos, fast!
Loco Taco competes with any other GR taqueria. Chipotle/Subway style ordering by friendly staff members.
Flavorful corn tortillas, traditional meat/salsa/topping choices. A well-stocked cooler with your favorite Jarritos beverages and Mexican Coke/Pepsi. Fairly priced. Not to be missed when you're craving good tacos! - Jun 18, 2022
Food is alright. I ordered the burrito combo and was very much underwhelmed as it as more like a makeshift wet taco. The other items in the menu do look exciting. For example the sopes are my favorite and can't wait to try them. As far as location it's a little confusing as their sign is next to a GIANT for lease ad. I've been driving past it for years thinking they were closed. I'll give it a 4/5 for now until I'm able to try more items off the menu.

Loco is a great addition to the food scene in the Plainfield Twp/Northview area, ss it's the only spot in the area one can get a truly Mexican taco, gordita, or sope.
The dining area has a definite fast food vibe. I believe it occupies the building that was originally a Dunkin' Donuts that had closed down. Its also sort of a build-your-own taco type of setup. Like the have all the options behind the plexiglass and they scoop your dish together for you. That part is bit lousy, and the ingredients don't always look quite fresh.
That being said, its the best taqueria in the area, by far not the best one in the city, but I'm glad it exists and will continue to go there, as i live nearby.Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 3Oh no 0 - Adalie M.Rockford, MI0211Apr 17, 2023
The food that we ate was amazing and I can't wait for the expansion of the restaurant with the bar. We had the quesadillas with beef, and the crispy tacos. The service was very friendly. This place is a great place to grab a quick bite beyond typical fast food option. The environment was peaceful and clI would recommend coming here.

I saw Loco Taco Taqueria while dining at another restaurant nearby so I was excited to check it out the other day. My boyfriend and I stopped in and ordered some tacos and enchiladas to share. My baseline for any Mexican place is a carnitas taco so I always get one of those at a new place. I also ordered an al pastor taco and a chorizo taco. Tacos are $1.99 each which is pretty reasonable. You can get whatever toppings you want, too - I just did the traditional onions and cilantro. The set up is like a Chipotle or Qdoba with everything laid out and you get to pick what you want for your plate.
The enchilada plate was $7.99 for two enchiladas and rice and beans. The enchiladas were just corn tortillas rolled up with filling and covered with sauce - they weren't a baked or heated enchilada which is what I was really craving unfortunately. They were okay but I was hoping for something warm with lots of melted cheese!
The tacos were all good and on par with other authentic tacos I've had elsewhere. The interior was clean and the girl making our food was patient and polite. They have a drive through which is nice! I don't think I'd go out of my way to go back just because there are other options closer to me, but it's nice to know it exists for when we're in that area in the future.Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Zissou S.Grand Rapids, MI13Jun 11, 2021
Easily my favorite taqueria.
Friendly, clean, and most importantly always on point with their tacos. It has the street food appeal rather than all the extra time and prep spent at Donkey or Condado leaving you wishing you grabbed something fulfilling and sooner.
I'd highly recommend the al pastor (corn tortilla) with pineapple and your choice of salsa. Top it with fresh white queso.
Has a drive-thru.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Daniel E.Creston, Grand Rapids, MI04Feb 20, 2023
This place has great carnitas tacos. Juicy and full of flavor, they hit the spot. When I visit Loco Taco (changed their name to Los Portales now), I make sure to get a couple carnitas tacos with cilantro, onions, guacamole and red salsa on corn tortillas. They are delicious!

i had ordered 2 steak tacos on corn with cheese and cilantro with lime and got food poisoning that night and the next day felt like hell and that was all i ate that day. Food is cold sitting out in pans not made fresh . never any business i see why .i don't recommend . when they first open it was always fresh hot food it's just gone down hill.

Our kids are picky eaters. One loves lots of different things, one hates almost everything, one has food allergies, and one likes things familiar. This little taqueria hit all four marks! Large burritos custom made allowed my adventurous eater to explore more foods. My really picky eater found comfort in chicken nachos. My child with allergies was able to customize his burrito to meet his dietary needs, and my other child found comfort in the tamales very similar to what we make at Christmas. My burrito and taco combo was delicious. A healthy serving of shredded chicken in the taco with fresh veggies and cheese was my lead off into a plate of creamy refrÃed beans, flavorful rice, and a carne asado burrito that hit the spot. My kids gave it a 10! We'll be back when we want tacos.
