Q:
Is the flea market open in july of 2020 with covid or is it shut down?
A:
It's open now, for the past 3 weeks and I went on 8/16/20, a little less crowded than usual. There were even parking spots on 7th and 8th St.

Update - Parking
The fenced in lot of Laney College, on E. Eighth St. & 5th Ave., was locked and empty.
You can go into the Peralta Community College
District lot from E. Eighth Ave., just past the estuary, to park for free but you might need to wait for a a lot to open. There's an attendant who directs traffic.
Today is Mother's Day and there were tons of people at the Flea Market buying an assortment of goods: toiletries, clothing, electronics, comforters, plants, vegetables, power tools, bicycles, etc.
***Gilberto's Roasted Peanuts is the main reason to go.
Maria & Beto work hard and roast the peanuts on-site.
These are truly the BEST in-shell peanuts you can find; I prefer the "light" variety over the "dark" and always buy several large bags for home, friends, and neighbors.
They're also at the Treasure Island Fest on certain days.
Be sure and give Maria a $$ tip when you pay for your peanuts, she deserves it!
Oct 3, 2020Previous reviewUpdate - PARKING: I went there on 9/6/20 and my favorite parking lot was chained up and couldn't park inside.
So I found a free curbside spot on 10th Street across from MetWest HS and it only took me 10 minutes, walking fast down and through the estuary area crossing a footbridge, to get to 8th Street.Aug 16, 2020Previous review***Gilberto's ROASTED PEANUTS*+*
This is the sole reason that brings me to Laney from across the Bay.
These fresh roasted peanuts are unlike any other, so much better than any bagged product at the market or ballpark.
They roast them on the premises, and they also have a booth at the Treasure Island Fest (which I find more inconvenient to get to and a higher entrance fee too).
Their booth is always at the northeast corner of the flea market, close to the parking lot at 7th St. and Fallon.
Parking can be problematic - my **secret** spots are the fenced-in lot at 8th St. and 5th St. which has an attendant but is free (I give him a few bucks or a bag of peanuts, he's a good dude.)
Or park on 10th St. by MetWest High School, walk down into the park by the estuary and you're at 8th St. in 10 minutes.
I can't wait until the flea market resumes.
(Gilberto & his daughter are at Treasure Island. There's a sweet hard-working woman and man at Laney - give them a few bucks for tip. They deserve it, even though they don't have a tip jar.
Sunday, 8/16/20 - went there again today. Hardly anyone was in the parking lot I referenced above.
At their booth Maria was up front as usual, Beto in the back. Solid plexiglass divider, wearing a mask.
There's no tip jar, just insist that Maria take the $.
Great tasting peanuts as usual!
I will be back!Aug 13, 2020Previous review***Gilberto's ROASTED PEANUTS*+*

They have light and dark roasted peanuts, unsalted and tasty, I prefer the light.
Various bag sizes, get the large so you have enough for later. Buy a few bags for your neighbors and friends too, to spread the joy. Bring cash.

was completely closed and empty last sunday.
don't know if that's permanent.
the flea market itself has always been five star,
but parking is NOT adequate and street parking will get your car trashed.
LOTS of car break ins by the homeless camp in the jungle south of Kaiser. - Tom V.Walnut Creek, CA1584Feb 5, 2023
2/5/23 - decided to go today. Hopped on bart and when I got there... nothing.
A ghost town.
Is the flea market still in the parking lot ? And if so does it run every weekend?
This was my first time going since pre-pandemic so it's been awhile.
I don't even know if there's a website for the flea market to find out what weekends it happens...
Still, when I did go, back in the day, it was cool.

Went here after long time. My bf and I had so much fun especially trying out different type of fruits and dried mangoes. The entrance fee was about $2/person. I am deducting one star because the tacos were very expensive. I paid $6 for tiny birria taco ;(

I Like to visit most sundays with my family , great items here and there , food can be great but at times they can also be a bit un- hygienic with the servings at times . But I will still continue to return.

entrance fee was $2 not bad. we had birrias from the sabores latinos food truck and it was so good and bomb, must try. so many cool booths and items being sold. it was a little messy and i feel like everything was all over the place, but i feel like flea markets are usually like that anyway. overall good time, nice finds.

I had a moment here yesterday with a labradoodle. In the midst of this dog friendly shopping extravaganza I locked eyes with this adorable pooch: the size and temperament of a golden retriever with curly locks that were all over the place. Pooch couldn't keep her eyes off me to the embarrassment of the owner who was also kind of cute. She kept tugging the dog away from me and pooch never stopped staring. I like to think of myself as a dog whisperer.
Decent burgers and tacos, dog and people watching. Ab rollers, disco balls and some slightly used as-seen-on-TV items that people were suckered into by fast talking salesmen only to be disappointed. They offer items for sale here to unload onto the next unsuspecting victim with two dollars. Old vacuums, toaster ovens, leaking coffee makers and broken staplers are good finds here. Watch out though. Parking is long distances away. I would discourage buying anything too heavy.
If your here looking for something you may never find it (CL is a better option). But everything you don't need is in abundant supply here. This place is for browsing and enjoying a Sunday afternoon and buying all the stuff you didn't know you needed till you saw it here. My friend sniffs in every corner at this place and just can't get enough. He greedily paws through gigantic piles of clothes. Digs on the bottom of every box looking for the good stuff. Walks at a snails pace and stares down everything seemingly with superhero laser vision. Don't ever go with him - he spends hours here getting sunburned testing Girlfriends patience making sure she is indeed wife material.
Yes this is a great date idea. You will learn so much more than you would sitting silently in a movie theater... and so much more fun too. Give one other a $20 budget each to buy something. Toss each item on ebay to see whos item sells for more.
Other fun passtimes here: Listen in on negotiations of two people who speak different languages or argue with the people trying to sell you their religion. See if GF can hold a conversation with said religious people. Oh, and see how much empathy she has for that guy with with the lowrider bicycle, hermonica and the bucket for donations. Hes kind of cool. When he sits on his bike and backs up he makes a "beep, beep, beep" sound just like a big truck going in reverse.

May 26, 2017Previous reviewIf you enjoy a treasure hunt this is a great place. Seems like many vendors get their items at storage auctions - you know like that TV show "Storage Wars." There is so much that really is junk - electronics, old beat up low quality furniture, cheap new nick nacks from China - but mixed in is the good stuff.
Old stuff in nice condition can be worth an awful lot if it happens to be trendy and popular at the moment. Many vendors don't seem to know what they have either - so they tend to over charge for less valuable items and under charge for the more valuable ones.
So how do you figure out what is worth the big bucks? Well, the items priced high at a normal antique shop or final selling prices of specific items on Ebay are good places to learn.
If your not all about a treasure hunt your a sure winner if you just buy things you like for yourself. Furniture, tools, bikes, sports equipment are great areas to buy.
Also a great place to learn price negotiation skills. Prices are rarely posted on anything and it forces you to strike up a conversation. Bring your kids or nephews that only know how to stick their faces in a smart phone so that they learn some life skill.
Parking never seems to be that difficult to find. Go super early if you want to cherry pick all the best stuff or super late in the day - maybe 3 or 4pm as they close - where vendors almost give everything away. - Juliana V.San Francisco, CA036Aug 15, 2021
0 stars if I could. DO NOT GO TO THE CORN PLACE! They are over priced now and rude to customers. The older brother worker insisted for us to pay 50 cents to break a corn on the cob in half. So we broke it ourselves and he refused to put anything on it. Keep in mind we had already paid for everything. He finally did put one swipe of mayonnaise and cheese on it. DO NOT GO HERE! RUDE AND OVERPRICED.
