I decided to stop in on a Monday afternoon after seeing this place on Yelp. I am a pescatarian which means that I do not eat chicken, pork, beef or turkey. So unfortunately, I had very few options to select from. I decided to try the elotes cup and the hot Cheetos street corn. I paid around $10 for both and I was not impressed with either selection. The cup had too much mayo and chili powder and the corn on the cob was average.

Over 4,500 fans on Facebook, 0 Yelp reviews. Crazy! It's easy though to see how this place has slipped through the cracks because the shop doesn't face the main road (US 41). But this place is very popular within the Mexican community. According to the gentleman I spoke with, they've been open for two years (although the banner outside says Now Open) and on the weekends, there are lines out the door. After visiting, I can see why and I'm sure I'll be a frequent customer.
La Botana is a Mexican dessert shop in a rundown plaza in Gibsonton. To give you a frame of reference, it's in the same plaza as Portales Restaurant/Super Market but on the right side (review to follow on the market). All kinds of fruity desserts with chamoy. All kinds of aguas frescas (horchata, limon, tamarindo, jamaica and alfalfa (I need to try that as I haven't had that before)). All kinds of pre-made items too including candied apples stuffed with gummy bears and chili powder on top? Fortunately, they speak English so that they can explain what everything is. I'm not a fan of chamoy so I went with something that didn't have it...a cocada ($5) which is basically a coconut smoothie. I couldn't believe how big it was when they handed it to me. But it was so good that I had no problems finishing it. The orange and umbrella on it were nice touches.
The restaurant is very clean (update: except on Sundays because of how busy), bright and spacious. The service was friendly. My only complaint is the prices aren't transparent (no prices on the menu). Oh and one cool feature is they have a drive-thru, which might not list everything they have. Can't wait to go back and be a little more adventurous!
Update: Bionico is huge, enough to share $7 I believe. Very good (see photo)Helpful 3Thanks 0Love this 5Oh no 0 - Jennifer Z.East Tampa, Tampa, FL14258Aug 17, 2019
I came and drove 30 minutes to this place. It looks yummy and so many options. I am just upset that they don't take any card payment or cash. It had to be through PayPal or CashApp.... like wth ? Never coming again. Can't even put a sign outside or anything

We are so happy to have found this place! It absolutely satisfies our cravings. We have tried the mango explosivo, Pina Loca and watermelon trolebus. All of them have been absolutely delicious. The fruit tastes so fresh and sweet. Only downside is having to at through PayPal or cashapp.

Whenever I'm in the mood for fresh fruit I come here. They have such a wide selection of food either fruit products or actual food. In the past, I've had the Piña Loca, piña colada, trolebus, and even their smoothies are delicious. The fruits come with the option of chile and chamoy. I'm not a big fan of either so I ask for them without. Other times I'll order spicy Cheetos with nacho cheese on it, or I'll even order the Cheetos all the way which come with nacho cheese, sour cream, another kind of grated cheese, and jalapeños. Ive tried the chicharron and everything that comes on it, but I didn't really like it.
Bring cash because they don't take cards anymore. For some reason they're closed Wednesdays. Staff is always friendly.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 2Oh no 0 - Lily B.Tampa, FL333038Sep 1, 2017
The BEST place in FLORIDA to get your fix on Mexican antojitos! Literally everything is so good! You can definitely tell they took their time to perfect each thing. My favorite is the conchitas, cocada (coconut drink), choco flan, chicharron preparado, mango trolebús & esquite!! Ok , yes that was more then one but you get my point! My new fave is a trolebús with pickles ! Extra PICKLES! Yea sounds weird but so good if you love pickles !
