This place is absolutely wonderful! Everything here is freshly made and made with love. A warm atmosphere and a friendly staff awaits you as soon as you enter!
We ordered the jumbo shrimp (fried) and grilled salmon. The shrimp was battered perfectly so it wasn't overwhelmingly fried. The cocktail sauce was absolutely delicious paired with the shrimp, and the best part is, it's homemade. Probably one of the best cocktail shrimp dishes I've had.
The sides were also delicious! From the mashed potato's, to the mac and cheese! Try any side that looks appealing!!Helpful 4Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - 518172311Aug 6, 2023
We came here for a girls lunch on a Sunday afternoon. We had a party of 5 and sat indoors. We immediately got a table and were greeted by the server.
For an app we shared the spinach artichoke dip. It came with Texas Toast, but would have been nice if they had chips. The dips itself was okay. For my entree I got the turkey wings over rice with Mac and cheese and sweet potatoe casserole. The food came all on the same plate and didn't love the sides touch each other. Primarily the sweet potatoes since the were so sweet and touch the savory food.
The turkey wing gravy was very yummy and full of flavor. The meat of the wing itself was a bit dry but still tasty with the gravy. The sweet potatoe casserole was good. The Mac and cheese was okay, could have been cheesier and creamier. Favorite part of the meal was the corn bread. It was moist and had a great flavor. Overall the experience was okay and would potentially revisit if I was in the areaHelpful 0Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0Business owner information

Tried to give them another go and honestly felt like the food wasn't worth the price point.
I ordered the grilled fish platter which comes with shrimp, salmon, a crab cake and two sides. The shrimp were the highlight of the dish, the salmon was just ok and the crab was way too salty so unfortunately did not finish it.
For the sides I ordered the mixed greens which were good, the Mac which could use some more cheese but it was still pretty good, and I got an extra side of black-eyed peas which I thought were actually good.
I also ordered the she crab soup since the last time I had it, it was super good. This go round unfortunately did not live up to the previous time. The soup was super small, it was cold, and tasted like heavy cream with no flavor to it. There was crab in it which I guess is a bonus.
Overall for what was paid, it definitely could've been better. If I were to go again, I'll probably stick to the veggie plate, I enjoy their sides.Helpful 3Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0Sep 2, 2018Previous reviewThe food here is just ok to me. I've dined here several times, so I have been able to try a few of the items on the menu. My favorite would have to be the mixed greens and the crab cakes depending on who makes them. And, the she crab soup is pretty awesome. The meatloaf had a weird texture and presentation to me, and the Mac and cheese was also just ok.
The seasoning they use gives the food a bit of a different flavored compared to your typical southern food. The service is generally good for the most part. - Wanakee H W.South River, NJ0286Feb 6, 2024
Everything is tasty. My favorite is the meatloaf with extra gravy on the mashed potatoes and I get that with cabbage. My favorite is the bread pudding. Sometimes I pop in and only get that. Great ambiance for date night or even a self date.

This place has an odd schedule regarding open days and hours, but if you get the opportunity to dine here, you'll be very happy with the food and service.

Just had dinner there, and was blown away! My father got the meatloaf, brother got the ox tail, and I had the pork chops, to which all were knockouts! Along with the fried green tomatoes as appetizer. Happy I don't live in the area, because I would go broke from eating there nonstop. Please do yourself a favor, and check this place out!

The ambiance is nice. Soft jazz playing. The first time my husband and I visited here it was very good. They had live music and the food was delish. This time the food was awful. The greens tasted like Glory greens from a can. The Mac and cheese was like a boxed Mac and cheese. The chicken was ok. Not seasoned very try well. The service was great! Unfortunately I had a taste for good soul food and this was disappointing.
UPDATE: This is to managements response to my original post. Adrienne.... You must have us confused with another couple. My husband and I absolutely did NOT take anything to go! As I said before. This review was based on and compared to other dining experiences we had at your restaurant. I STILL stand by my original post. The Mac and cheese was akin to boxed Mac and cheese NO resemblance of homemade BAKED Mac and cheese. As well as the greens lacked flavor. They were similar to Glory greens however with LESS flavor. I plan on having WONDERFUL DINING experiences.
Signed: Diner....disappointed in your NO "soul" food and even more disappointed in your rebuttal.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 1Business owner information

This place has a nice, homey, family-friendly feel. Very welcoming and the music is great. We tried some of everything and we highly recommend the fried green tomatoes and fried okra. I also really enjoyed the catfish and my daughter loved the pork chops. None of us raved about the Mac and cheese, perhaps it's just a preference for the recipe but it didn't have enough cheese and lacked that firm outside of bubbly, crispy cheese that you would expect. A couple of us didn't really like the mashed potatoes, they had a box-like consistency and I also didn't like the cornbread, it seemed like an afterthought: not a nice big, golden corn muffin- a tiny one that was a bit dry. I think they have the meat down, but the sides need some work.
Tip: check back for when they do live jazz!Helpful 3Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 2
