One of our favorite spots to grab a quick, casua lunch or dinner. Food is consistently good, service friendly, and the space is welcoming - large bar area, cheerful decor and tables spaced so conversation is easy.
Things we love:
Large menu with something for everyone, and lots of daily specials
Black beans and rice - so flavorful and creamy
Kuban roast pork - tender, juicy , unctuous and delicately spiced. We get this every time
Guava ginger shrimp - large, tender shrimp cooked in a tangy BBQ sauce, perfect for dipping your cornbread
Salads - large, fresh, light dressing
Chino Latin roll - Cubano sandwich ingredients served egg roll style with a tangy mustard sauce
Things they could do better:
Cornbread - has good flavor but is a bit dense and dry; good for dipping into sauces or your black beans
Tomatoes - a pet peeve of ours. Why do restaurants serve hard, "plastic" tomatoes? I can go into any grocery store and get serviceable Campari or cherry tomatoes any time of year. Why can't restaurants?Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Nov 12, 2023
We've come here a couple of times now, and both visits have been good overall.
For starters, Cuban cuisine is NOT traditionally spicy, and certainly not be be confused with Mexican or other Latin preparations. Cuban food is generally more mild and often uses variations of pork in most meat preparations. However, there is an abundance of seafood, poultry, and other options as well. Kuba Kuba Dos does a good job in realizing the traditional preparations for common Cuban preparations as well as variations of old standards. Beans and rice are a common staple accompaniment on many dishes, as well as fried plantains (a starchy and semi-sweet variation of a banana). If you want to spice up your meal a bit, there is a bottle of hot-sauce on each table. For those less akin to spicy foods, please try a small amount before dousing your meal. The local palates here do not seem to like things too spicy. For me...the hot sauce is absolutely preferred...and lots of it! :)
Kuba Kuba Dos has a wide variety of options on their menu which includes traditional appetizers, breakfast dishes, sandwiches, and main course meals. At our most recent visit, we started with the Coconut Risotto cakes that were very nice. This trio of coconut sweetened fried cakes were a nice and simple start to the meal. They are crispy and cooked to perfection - accompanied by a salsa of black beans, corn, and tomatoes. For our main meal, I ordered the Kuban Pork Roast and she ordered the Shrimp Enchilado. The Pork was in a "pulled" preparation placed over a layer of beans/yellow rice and topped with corn and tomatoes. There were small fried medallions of plantains as well. The pork is moist and balanced with nice aromatic spices, and the beans/rice were well prepared as well. I kicked it up a bit with some hot sauce (because I like things very spicy in general), and that added a nice depth to the flavor as well. She enjoyed the shrimp dish, but the quantity of shrimp seemed a bit sparse.
For dessert, we shared their Kuban Flan. I've had plenty of flan in my life, but this one really stood out. Flan is a traditional custard that is baked in dishes coated with caramel that liquifies and browns the outside of the custard while it cooks. The sauce is then traditionally served over the custard. What set this apart was the density. Most flan I've had were typically light, but this was really thick, almost like an ice cream kind of thickness. It was quite filling, but couldn't resist finishing it off. So good!!
Our waitress was quite attentive and she did a great job taking care of our needs. Very friendly.
The restaurant is located on a corner section next a large strip-mall center, but is a standalone business. Unfortunately, the parking here is usually quite limited, requiring patrons to park in the larger main parking area with a short walk.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Sydney M.Sandston, VA01913Mar 21, 2024
I always get the Cuban sandwich! I've been to both locations one time now and they do charge differently. For example, I asked for hot sauce that was provided at the other location, but this location attempt to charge me for it. I think all businesses should operate the same way. Nonetheless, the sandwich was delicious! It was fresh and the plantain was a nice addition. Last thing, the bell pepper garnish is unnecessary.

Really enjoyed our visit to Kuba Kuba Dos, located in the West end Tuckahoe shopping center
We were greeted and seated as soon as we walked in.
Our server, Jay, was great, very personable, knowledgeable about the menu, and checked on us frequently.
Food was flavorful. Nice Cuban spice without being overpowering.
Portions were very generous. We brought half home with us
Interior is fun and bright. It's pretty loud inside, and the booths are tight. Interior is showing a little wear and tear
Nice bar area up front inside and a roomy covered patio outside
What we ate:
Cuban Rum punch and a Blue Mojioto
Beet Salad: Arugula & beets tossed with house citrus vinaigrette & topped with a fried Manchego cheese ball. Served with cornbread.
Coconut Risotto Cakes: Homemade savory risotto cakes with coconut & pineapple, dusted with rice flour & deep-fried. Served over black beans & corn salsa
Veggie-Q Sandwich: Pressed with plantains, carrot-ginger slaw & house BBQ sauce. Black beans & rice on the side.
Kuban Roast Pork: Slow roasted, mojo-marinated pork with black beans, yellow rice & plantains. Served with cornbread

I went here with my son for dinner and was pleasantly surprised. This is located tucked in a shopping mall, it's a very cute vibe, cute atmosphere.
We were seated right away and had a super friendly and awesome server. She gave us the rundown of everything and made us feel very welcome.
We enjoyed our food very, very much. Normally I hate the taste of asparagus, and I gave it a try here. By itself, it was awful, bitter... but dipped in the sauce on my plate it was pretty good.
I had the shrimp with black beans, rice and cornbread. the meal was very tasty, but the cornbread was just okay. I like my cornbread to be moist like cake and buttery. This one was a lil dry and crumbly.
Overall, I enjoyed this place and would go back for sure.Helpful 5Thanks 0Love this 4Oh no 0 - 211141647Aug 14, 2023
Great food, service and value! I removed a star for a believe the restaurant can use a little refreshing. I'm not sure if they are going for that dive type atmosphere but if they are not there should be some updates. Besides that, they have a very flavorful menu with great drink selections as well. The menu has so many choices it was difficult to choose so we'll have to come back to try more entrees. Also there's a homemade mango hot sauce at each table, so don't ignore this tasty condiment. There's plenty of parking as they are located in a strip mall.

Fun restaurant. Great drink and desert selections. Gracious service. Same menu as the other location, just a few differences.

The food here may very well be delicious, but we will never know. We sat at the table for 15 minutes and watched 2 tables seated after us get served drinks and we never even had a server greet us. We left without a goodbye.

Two years ago I went to Kuba Kuba on park st. It was a great experience with food and service each nice.
Kuba Kuba Dos is not worth going. Gave it 3 stars because the food was not bad, but the presentation and service needs a lot of work.
No restaurant should be allowed to have a restroom outside. It is a hazard and unsanitary.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0
