Krakatoa is a unique coffeehouse and restaurant created in a beautiful repurposed Craftsman house in Golden Hill. We have delicious sandwiches, bagels, smoothies, salads and are well-known for our famous potato salad. At Krakatoa, we bake all our own colossal homestyle pastries including muffins, brownies, cookies and cakes. We have also created some tasty and unusual coffee drinks to tempt you--like the Smoky Mocha with espresso freshly brewed with Lapsang Souchong tea, chocolate, and rich spices like cinnamon, ancho chile and just a hint of cayenne. Or try the Orange Blossom Latte--espresso brewed with fresh orange peel, milk and a smidge of jasmine syrup. We also have an ever-changing range of freshly made lemonades like lavendar, coconut, and strawberry-rose. Come by and relax on our shady, tree-packed patio, have a meal, snack, dessert, or just a coffee. Dogs on leash are more than welcome to join you outside.…

This is a great coffee shop. Krakatoa is a neighborhood favorite where you can find people popping in on their way to work to get their morning dose, ladies meeting their friends to chat for a couple hours over beverages, and the laptop worker brigade setting up shop around the patio.

They have a decent sized menu of drinks and food options like sandwiches. If you're just looking to grab a muffin or a cookie those are ready wrapped options. Just mosey on up to the counter area and read all the menus they've got hanging around. My pick is a large iced Vietnamese. This actually might be my favorite one that I've tried around town.

Time to find a seat. Inside is cozy and all but the patio is nice! Has a porch vibe, trees, and it's quiet. Just head out the side door after you order. They have small tables for one or two and larger tables where groups can sit. You can sit in the sun or hide beneath a shady tree. Bonus points if a squirrel wants to be your friend.

Basically Krakatoa is whatever you need it to be. Sit, sip, and see the clouds roll by, get cracking on those work projects, catch up with old friends, or have an awkward first date - all of those are better with coffee.

local gem! Krak has some of the best coffee in town, it's definitely my favorite coffee shop in Golden Hill.

The inside has tables to sit down as well as some couches. They also have an outdoor area, it feels like you're sitting on someone's front porch! Beautiful trees and plants to cover for shade.

My go- to is their iced rose latte w/ oat milk- it's sooo good I don't even try to order something new. I have tried a mocha and hot latte in the past and they're both great as well.

They can get a little busy, especially first thing in the morning there is usually 1 barista and 1 person in the kitchen. The barista is also the cashier in the mornings so if there is a bit of a line it can take a minute to get your drink or even get your order in. This doesn't really bother me as I live close by and the coffee is great enough for me to wait.

Visited Krakatoa for the first time. It's definitely a shop where people meet, study and or work.

    The good:
    Good coffee
    Good lox bagel
    Yummy mimosa

    The odd:
Odd seating, tables are wobbly and not sturdy.
Odd food delivery system, staff said they would bring food out and suddenly we hear our name being called out for. Doesn't matter just confusing. Makes it harder to relax.

    The bad:
Smoking area too close to eating/drinking area.
Why does a coffee shop need a smoking area? Meh

Got their vegan breakfast bagel with hummus. It's nice that they toasted the bagels and that the bagels were pretty fluffy/poofy/chewy (not quite sure how to describe). The hummus was also quite yummy and I liked that they had some vegetables (cucumbers, tomatoes) on top. Their outdoor seating area is pretty nice too and the staff working there were friendly.

Best place in Golden Hill!! Sad to see this place shutting their doors tomorrow. Happy that we were able to sit down and enjoy the coffee and food one last time. Great memories at this place.

Super cute spot! I love the outdoor seating/ patio available. Staff was super friendly and helpful. A great selection of breakfast pastries, sandwiches, and I love their açaí bowls!! Krakatoa always has so many "fun" drinks and specials which is also the best. One of my favorites is the Swedish winter coffee.

    Can't wait to go back!

THE END OF AN ERA! They had my all time favorite iced vanilla lattes. And their food was so good. I especially loved their avocado bacon toast. Overall will miss the ambiance and outdoor seating that felt like you were in a treehouse. I'm so sad they're closed!!

First off I want to say I used to love this place. Drinks are amazing, food is great and customer service is usually spot on. I just don't have the time to wait 20 to 30 for one coffee.
Sure wish they were not closing and could hire a few more employees.
Also I would buy a coffee every morning but they open late

Yummy food, great coffee drinks, but maybe their hours have changed? Closed this AM ... I thought they opened at 7. Door is locked and seems like they are still having issues with their phones (it's been impossible to reach them via phone over there last several months. Calling in orders used to be so easy!) Anyway - the lights are on, but no one is home this morning.

I'll be back - but super bummed there wasn't any signage or info about new hours or a change in hours for the day.

I could have made a better meal at home, and it wouldn't have cost me $15. My matcha drink would have been sweeter, and my breakfast sandwich would have not been just primarily egg and had a sprinkle of the other ingredients. Outside of the friendly barista and the cozy patio, I honestly would look elsewhere for drinks and breakfast sandwiches.
