Rae J was our server tonight and he was very attentive. We normally go to Iron Age, but decided to try this place and glad we did. Our reservation was at 10 and it only took 5 minutes for them to sit us, which is a lot shorter than most places. During our dinner, Rae J made sure we had food at all times and that our stoves were clean. He was also very quick and remembered about all our request. A party of 8 could be a lot, but he didn't ever seemed annoyed and always had a smile on his face. The food is also really good. There were a lot of side dishes, which is not what you normally see at an AYCE Korean BBQ. And also their sojus are good, too. Not too watered down, even with the flavored ones. Thank you for an awesome experience, Rae J!
i wish i could give Zero Star to this place. Today is my 2 nd time to ty this place. Customer Sercice is zero, everyone is mean and rude, it's not like they don speak english but they just being rude, throw plate over my head n on the table. One of the server was careless brought the meat and pour blood over my friend Jacket. if u want a better food and customer, Yechon is recommended. Suck sinning experience i ever had!!!!!
I have to admit that I was wary about trying this place. It had nothing to do with its reviews because they're great, but because I have a serious sesame allergy that makes me nervous about exploring new Korean restaurants. My husband convinced me anyway, so I packed loads of Benadryl and we were off to Annandale... It totally paid off because we both thought it was delicious and very filling. We were seated after about a 5 min wait on a Saturday night and immediately received beverages and banchan to start. We opted for the all-you-can-eat option A - the spicy pork was hands-down our favorite. Although the staff gave me mixed messages about what I could/could not eat with my allergy, I ate almost everything (based on past experience) and didn't have any issues. Looking forward to going back soon with a larger group!
Hands down the BEST KBBQ place (that offers all you can eat) in the DMV area. My boyfriend and I have gone to Honey Pig and Iron Age multiple times, but Kogiya is on a whole another level. I highly recommend making a reservation in advance because this place can get packed, especially on a weekend evening. We got lucky and came in when another couple had cancelled their reservation, otherwise they would not have been able to seat us. Once they let us know a table for two had suddenly opened, we were seated and served immediately. The service is great here and the meat options for the korean bbq are all fantastic. I'm a fan of the marinade they use on their meat as well. We were extremely satisfied with the food, service, and overall dining experience. Can't wait to come back here for more amazing korean bbq!
Pros: Waiters cook the meat for you compared to the other KBBQs where you do it yourself The AYCE menu has a variety of pork belly flavors They give a good variety of banchan including red pepper soup and steamed egg Cons: The parking lot is small and usually full The restaurant can't accomadate very many people and there usually is a wait The AYCE menu is lacking galbi and some of the other quality meats (biggest complaint)
This review is another update to my other reviews about Kogiya! Seriously, Kogiya never fails to amaze me whatever day of the week it is or in this case whatever time of the night! My friends have sent me snapchats of late night korean bbq trips after they have gone clubbing and/or out drinking and eating endless meat drunk af - I have always wanted to experience that haha! Well, I did last Saturday after an all-day St. Patty's celebration. My boyfriend and I got to Kogiya (using Uber - drink responsibly) at 1am on a Saturday. There wasn't any wait and I was super excited to have some Korean bbq after drinking all day. We got seated near the front door and we got the AYCE because we like to order a variety of things (but never the chicken cause chicken is always dry anywhere I go). So we got the beef brisket and got down on business and literally swallowed the whole thing together in 20 mins (LOL) then we got the spicy pork belly and also enjoyed that entree. My boyfriend was still drinking believe it or not and got himself 2 beers during this time. I have also never seen him that good with using chopsticks lol. It was such a fun experience after we have been walking and dancing all day. We wanted to get another meat but I think I would've thrown up from being too full of alcohol and food so we stopped at 2 meats and decided it was time to head home. I honestly loved my experience coming here at 1:30 am. The staff was so friendly even though it's so late at night and some people were clearly drunker than us. My boyfriend and I literally told each other we have to do this again at 1am. FYI they close at 2am but I saw that they were still serving until like 1:40am. Always a good and attentive service and always great food when i'm having Korean bbq craving. Oh btw, we did not need to call ahead, the restaurant wasn't full but maybe half of the place was filled.
I just love me some Korean BBQ! This place is def hipster. The music is poppin and it's a fun environment. The servers were upbeat like the music. The ambiance is inviting and pure dopeness. I went here with mi padre, but it would definitely be fun with a group of friends and/or family. Of course padre and I ordered the all-you-can eat because I'm a girl who can eaaaatttuuuhh. So, I had all the meats on their all you can eat list. And everything was amazing. My favorite was the brisket. The pork belly was a little too fatty for me but still yummy nonetheless. Food and service were just pure quality! And you cannot eat their lunch price! I definitely recommend this place!
This place is where is at for late night bbq! The service is stellar! The meat, unlimited, just delicious and flavorful. The sides are good but not all of them. Overall it's a great spot. There is parking. It's great for groups but maybe not a date unless you need to discover how glutinous that person is, in which case, take them here!! You can discover a lot about a person at a Korean buffet. You can also opt not to do the buffet, so that's good too. I don't think you'll loose coming here and it's worth a try! I loved it :) prices aren't bad either, I think buffet was about $22 per person as of February 2018...all you can eat meat and sides!
Eaten here about 5x now and each time has been a pleasant experience. They have chairs that you can put your jackets in so they don't smell like kbbq which is nice. Service is always great here too, super attentive. Be sure to make reservations because this place is always packed. I've had their galbi bibimbap (delicious) and done their AYCE which comes with the normal steamed rice, steamed egg and soup. I only wish they offered more options for meat with their AYCE menu like bulgogi or pork and had a better parking lot (get there early to get a spot!) but other than that, I believe this is probably one of the best choices for kbbq in Annandale.
So I FINALLY got to try this place a month ago! They do have options, you can either do all you can eat meat or a la carte meat! My friends and I knew what we wanted so we went with the a la carte. We ordered 2 servings of 5 gyup sal (type of pork belly meat, with couple more layers of fat I think) and 2 servings of joo mool luk (beef ribeye meat). The servers walk around and cook them at your table for you. We also had a spicy galbi tang (bone ribeye soup?) but don't get that. Stick with kbbq. It tasted like spicy water with some meat in it. Meat quality was pretty good! Oh, I should mention this place has the same owner as Sō in Centreville, which is also a meat buffet with la carte options. I think I do prefer the Centreville location better. Their service was pretty fast, and since they walk around to cook your meat, they are readily available for requesting extra napkins or refilling water. One other cool fact: their chairs are not the most comfy chairs since they dont have a "back" but you can open the chair to store your purse or jacket so the bbq smell doesnt stick too much!
Small and always busy all-you-can-eat Korean BBQ. Price-wise it is in the mid $20-ish like it's other rivals. Taste-wise it is also on-par with it's rivals. Comparing to oeagadgib, it has more selections of meat on offer. Both restaurants are similar in size. Yet the taste and style of these 2 are incomparable because they are quite distinct from one another. Comparing to iron age, it has a little less meat selection to offer. Iron age has steak which other Korean bbq don't seem to invest. Both are deliciousness in its own right. Comparing to its sister restaurant So in Centreville (the newer, grander Korean BBQ all you can eat sister restaurant - same owner), well everything is bigger and better at So. But it was worth going to try the parent restaurant that spawned the new mega successful offspring.
The more I go, the more I like this place. Language barrier can be an issue, since most of the staff is Asian, but the food is outstanding. They have a very hip decor but space can be limited so get there early or call ahead. For about $23 you get AYCE K BBQ, where you pick from a variety of fresh meats, tofu, soups, vegetables, etc... Marinated beef, spicy chicken, Short ribs, pork belly, rib eye, spicy pork, beef intestine, brisket, etc... They turn the grill that is on your table and the ladies and gents help cook the food to your liking. Very well marinated...lots of food and drinks. They keep bringing food to you until you tell them to stop or you losen your the top button of your pants. Excellent experience. It could be a nice meal for 2 or a nice outing for a group.
This is still my go-to. Recently I started ordering the beef combo which is perfect for two decently-hungry people. Comes with 6 different types of beef, steamed egg, and doenjang jjigae. I also still come back looking forward to the iced coffee at the end of the meal. Heavenly.
Attempted a late lunch (about 1:30) .Parking lot is very unsmooth.walking to door ,I almost tripped on the uneven surface. Went inside and got long distance greeting. We were told to wait in holding area (not well defined). We sat down to wait at a front table, but we were told to get up and go to the waiting area. The restaurant was nowhere near full so we created no problems. Maybe they were cleaning a table, but we just left, not really feeling that we a value to the restaurant.
Menu: Both English/Korean. With the $12 Lunch Combo, you choose: 1. Meat(Your choice of Rib-Eye, Ribs, Pork, etc...) 2. Soup or Noodle My choices: 1. Bulgogi 2. Doenjang Jjigae Spicy Bulgogi(Sliced Rib-Eye): As advertised, the Bulgogi was distinctive, but fiery(In fact, I had to excuse myself to the restroom to blow my nose). Doenjang Jjigae(Soy Bean soup): Luscious broth. Used to hate Tofu, but over time, I started falling in love with it. Shocking amounts of tofu, onions and jalapeno slices. Banchan(The sides): Checkout the pic.....Kogiya is really cheating us on the sides(Kidding!). The staff: With cooktops stationed at all seating areas, I thought it was "da bomb" to have the waiters cook my Bulgogi right in front of me. Decor: Above every table, Kogiya has lighted, industrial range hoods, which I thought was a nice touch. Mounted TVs/metal walls/ceiling pipes dominate the scene. Towards the end of the meal: Kogiya serves ice coffee. Is Kogiya for most schedules? Whether it's 12PM or 12AM, you can still engage in sweeping Korean food.
Best KBBQ spot in DC. Go for the a la carte meats rather than the AYCE - they are high quality, delicious and plentiful. Every side dish was amazing. Service was a little slow at times, but if you press the service button, they are very quick and happy to respond. This is one of my favorite Korean restaurants in the country. Whenever we are in the area, it's a must to visit! Good food, drinks and atmosphere all the way around.
One of the best places for Korean BBQ in the Va area or even the DMV area. Much better than Iron Age Rockville! Most Korean BBQ places are known for having brisket and this place nailed it! Though this place mostly serves brisket, pork belly, and chicken- not much variety. Their brisket looks really red which probably means fresh and has a good fat to meat ratio. Also their pork belly items dont have as much fat as compared to other BBQ places. Customer service is pretty good and attentive. I liked how our waiter suggested to have a sample of every meat and he would just bring out the next meat as soon as we finish what we have on the grill. Also like how they give you a cup of their iced coffee after the meal. Would definitely come back. Parking is okay... and the place is a bit small compared to other BBQ places.
Wow! I've gone through northern VA for some Korean food. I visit this place twice a month. It is pricey but the food is so worth it. I normally order the kalbi ribs. The taste has been very consistent and never disappointing. I like how they offer more side dishes than other places. The servers are always nice. We are always greeted once we walk in and taken to our table right away. Sometimes it is better to make reservations because this place does get packed. The resturant is very cleaned and never had any issues with the service being provided. Great place to eat!
I completely enjoyed this place. The meat combo was just the perfect portion for our family of four. The quality of all the meats were excellent. I only say this because I've had some bbq places where the marinated meats weren't so fresh :( Not impressed with the side dishes but the soybean jigae and the eggs were just perfect. Just sad we don't live close enough to eat there alllll the time. We would definitely go back if we're ever back in VA. The service was top-notch as well. Just go and you'll leave very happy and money well spent!
I was excited to try Kogiya again with a group of new friends and this time was a bit disappointing. This time around really confirmed the Kogiya KBBQ theory that I had all along. You may not believe this but here's what happens... 1. Order the fatty beef brisket the first round and you will receive super fatty beef brisket that melts in your mouth. 2. Order the fatty beef brisket the second + third time around and you will receive lean brisket that is tough to eat. This cut is dry once you grill it.
