Do they use monosodium glutamate to tenderize meat?

      A:

I would say no, being a chef first , I would say they would say a good cut of meat doesn't need tenderizing..

Hi, I am coming from California. Saw your restaurant under halal food. Do you serve halal meat?

      A:

Last week I called and they confirmed they no longer use halal meat. Check out pinkertons - they use Creekstone and cut it separately!

Food- This is literally the best bbq I've ever tasted! No exaggerating the meat is so tender. For me I ordered- 2 meat plate with double brisket, creamed corn and brussel sprouts
For him he ordered-1 meat plate with creamed corn and mac and cheese and burnt ends
The first time we visited I got a 2 meat plate with sausage and the same sides but with a beef rib as well. The beef rib is definitely tender and juicy, but not as much flavor as the brisket. The mac and cheese is just okay but everything else was very delicious! We have to visit Killen's STQ next.

Atmosphere - It gets very crowded so plan to get there as soon as they open.

Service - They don't have a server set up, it's more cafeteria style. But a young man did come around to take trays and clean the tables. Everyone we interacted with were nice.

We came here on a Friday around 11:30 and the line wasn't too bad when we came. The line did get really long after we got our food tho. While in line, a man in front of us recommended the prime rib and said it was really good. So we ordered prime rib, some brisket, a rib, a sausage, and some burnt ends.

Everyone thought the prime rib was ok... nothing about it stood out. I wouldn't order it again. I expected it to be better since the person was raving about it. The brisket was super dry and disappointing. Burnt ends weren't bad. The best item was the sausage. It was juicy and flavorful. The brisket definitely left us with disappointment. Most likely will not return.

Disclaimer- this is a review based on a top 50 BBQ trip stop after they flipped the restaurant for dinner. After 4 pm they close the BBQ line and this becomes a legit restaurant with flowers on the table and all. The service was really good but the BBQ not so much.

Food- In Texas brisket is king..... here, tonight, not so much. I would rate the brisket a zero, which I'm sure you can agree from the picture. The only reason this place gets a three is for the service, fries, and cheesecake. Wings were okay too.

But hey, we got our stamp

It was a gloomy day decided I wanted some Barbecue so looked on my GPS and GPS lead me to Killen Barbecue.
Waited for my online order for 15 minutes came to the side of the restaurant where this lady slide the window and gave me my food. Couldn't wait to get home and try the world's best barbecue.
I got the chopped brisket sandwich, I guess I got the wrong batch of food cause my sandwich was a little tasteless it need some seasoning and it was dry the barbecue sauce was ok could use some seasoning also.
I would come back to try something else because my sandwich didn't look like the picture.

I was in Houston for a few days and a friend recommended this place to me. I drove there around opening on a Tuesday early afternoon. There was no line. They have a menu on the screen and you order at a counter.

I ordered 2 lbs brisket, 1 lb pulled pork, brisket sandwich, fries and banana pudding which cost me ~$150. They were able to wrap the meat for me in order to take it on the plane and not have it spill in my bags. The brisket sandwich and side of fries were huge, I ate them for 2 meals. The banana pudding tasted really fresh. I ate the brisket and pulled pork a few days later and it still tasted great!

They have ample seating inside and outside. Very easy process overall. They have a parking lot that probably fits about 15 cars.

If you come here during lunch hours you'll notice there's always a line - they have made a name for themselves that draws a crowd . And I will say their steak house deserves that reputation as it is phenomenal but this isn't that sooo

But in my opinion there are sooo many better bbq places . There is no reason to stand in a line for 20 + mins for this bbq . Their food has no great qualities or uniqueness. I found their meat to be dry and " ok" at best .

They have an outside area as well as an inside , it's super casual . If you must come try it , I'd say it's a one and done .

Now I see why this place always has a line outside. I eat meat from time to time, so I decided to try their pull pork after seeing other people post about how yummy it is. Oh boy, were they right! The pulled pork was so tender & juicy. The inside seems well kept, and they have a nice outside patio to enjoy the beautiful weather while you eat. The service was pretty good also. Overall, I would recommend this place. Especially the pull pork. So yummy!!

My husband and I stopped here after landing in Houston on our way to Galveston and were starving after traveling all day. We were quickly sat, greeted, and food came out in a timely manner. The server we had that night was awesome as well. The quality of the food was delicious and sauces only enhanced the flavor that was already there. Highly recommend the queso as an appetizer- SO good.

Having reviewed before in past, made a visit today to make a comparison to Terry Black's Lockhart location. Was an easy review! Terry B's is good...very good actually, but Killen's is in a class that Terry B's is not! Brisket, amazing, ribs, amazing, sides, OMG the greens! Will give Terry B's a try again in the near future, but honestly, there just is a lot of distance in quality between the two...I am a Killen's fan now and forever!

Absolutely perfect brisket and rib...and the greens are the star of the show!

I finally got a chance to try it and was satisfying, nothing bad but also, nothing wow'd me either.Got the wings with a decent smoke but a lil hard (wish I could have gotten them fresh & juicy), the brussels and greens were fabulous. The sweet tea was delicious!! The service was good and the ambiance was very comfortable. I'd certainly like to come and try some other things.
