Consistently good food .... Well prepared and very quick service.
Only downside is their highest spice level is often a bit inconsistent.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - John A.Honomu, HI0102Apr 19, 2024Updated review
Their owner, chef, and most of the staff are all from Thailand. You are unlikely to find another Thai restaurant that is any more authentic or more excellent than Khun Thai!
Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0Jun 1, 2021Previous reviewAlthough the atmosphere is not traditional Thai, the owner and chef from Thailand make up for that with authentic Thai food. Ask for medium heat to wake up your brain and taste buds, which is a different sensation than from Mexican chilies.

Excellent food! We got the fresh spring rolls (which had the best peanut sauce we've had in a while) and the seafood curry, which was delicious. The staff was also very friendly. Would recommend!

9 years since our last meal here ... and it's STILL a 5* from me. This time, my husband and I had 3 meals here in the span of a week.
Twice I had the Red Curry (veggies being my add-in of choice, which adds Carrots, Broccoli, and Cabbage to the usual ingredients). They allowed substituting Jasmine rice with Brown rice for $1 more, so I happily did that. Spice level choices were 0-5; I chose 5, and it was about right (a bit weak for my heat tolerance, but enough to enjoy). It has a decent amount of veggies, but too much curry for me to eat all of it. I enjoyed it both times.
My husband had a Rainbow Wok Fry with veggies for one meal. He enjoyed the taste; he thought it was a garlic-based sauce. He chose a spice level of 4, which gave some heat without making him feel like his mouth was on fire by the time he finished. Portion size was very good for the price.
Another time he had the Garlic Prawns & Peanut Sauce, which came with eight! prawns (quite generous these days) and steamed veggies (most noticeably broccoli, but also mushrooms, onions, cilantro, and at least one other). The garlic sauce itself was delicious, but the side of peanut sauce was really great. Not sickly sweet like at many Thai restaurants, it added another dimension to the flavor profile of the dish. Very enjoyable (yeah, I did eat some of it, so what?).
We also each had a Papaya salad once. Admittedly we don't order this very often in Thai restaurants, but all the other times we've had it, the papaya and other ingredients were on a bed of lettuce. Not here. The lettuce comes separately, so it doesn't get soggy, and can even be used to make a few wraps if you feel like it. The fish sauce / lime dressing was delicious. Another winner in my book.
The Fresh Summer Rolls with tofu tasted fresh described, and were very well wrapped. They came with the same delicious peanut sauce as described above.
Service ranged from fast when very crowded, to ridiculously fast when nearly empty; once, our meals were delivered to our table in less than 5 minutes of us ordering. All servers were very pleasant, but one in particular stood out. Five days after our first meal here, when we came for our second meal, he remembered me, and that I prefer hot water instead of ice water. He brought it without me saying a word! That's a crazy good memory, and fantastic service.
Considering service, pricing, and food, it remains a solid 5* for me.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0Jul 2, 2014Previous reviewAte 4 delicious lunches here during a 10-day June stay in Brookings (yeah, that's almost every other day!). Out of 8 shared entrees, there wasn't a single disappointment. Our favorite dish was the Salmon Pumpkin Curry (which was a dinner entrée, but they serve it anytime), despite the Salmon being battered and tempura-fried. The pumpkin pieces and curry sauce were scrumptious (as was the Salmon). Also tried several noodle dishes (including $5 Pad Thai on Mondays, a great deal), all excellent. Service was always fast and friendly, though they did mess up our substitution of brown for white rice twice (quickly corrected). They're the only restaurant we went to in Brookings that offered brown rice, so I'm not going to knock them for a slight miscue.

The orange chicken was incredibly good. I got the yellow chicken curry and it was tasty but I like the sauce to be a bit thicker. It was a little too runny. All in all though the food was good.

Delicious Thai food - don't even need to discount for the location (small town vs big city).
We got take out here and ate it at Harris Beach state park. Got one red curry, one pad see ew, and one spring roll. Each was excellent. Curry was the winner given the rich broth and excellent flavor without being too heavy.
Food was prepared quickly and on time for pickup. Appreciate you taking care of us Khun Thai!
Can't comment on the ambiance but the restaurant was packed when we walked in to pick up. Must be pretty good!Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Bob M.Brookings, OR1381Nov 16, 2023Updated review
Absolutely the best restaurant in Brookings. Excellent customer service, friendly staff, and the best food in Brookings or Harbor.

Love this place, best Thai food full of flavor. It's hard to find Thai restaurants that have flavorful food and Kuhn nails it every time!

Stopping here for lunch really made my day. I'd been here before a couple years ago and super pleased it was as good as I recalled. Today, I had mango basil chicken and it nailed my expectations. They had prik nam pla as well and I was able to send myself into that sublime zone with mango, basil and heat. Superb!
My only regret is failing to take a picture.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - George K.Grants Pass, OR69723Dec 22, 2023
