I have been going to Eyecare associates, in part of the Stonestown complex in San Francisco, for many years and I had Dr. Tan handle my case last month. This office is run very efficiently and friendly from Tanya at the front desk to Stephen and the ophthalmologists. Dr. Tan is excellent along with Dr. Nguyen and Dr. Ng. These doctors are young, experienced and very professional.

DONT GO HERE. I scheduled a appointment with Dr.Tan on Ang. They rescheduled my appointment for four times. I finally cannot bear this anymore since they told me that they need to reschedule to Dec or cancel it. VERY RUDE, BAD MANAGEMENT, totally waste my time. I have eye illness for a long time. Although it's not in emergency, pushing my appointment from Aug to Dec is disrespectful and irresponsible.

Dr. Kevin Tan is simply awesome. My wife needed glasses to get her learner's permit from the DMV. His office is super clean and the front staff very friendly. Even though it was a simple eye test and another Doctor examined her, Kevin stopped by and checked in on us. The examining Doctor was very patient and it took several tests to get the correct prescription.
Kevin has a great smile and the location is in Union Square. Easy parking in the garage. Just be careful that Tiffany is below, I was glad that my wife did not see the store.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Bob S.New York, NY02Aug 29, 2021

Although I had Lasik done over 20 years ago, my vision became more near-sighted as I've gotten older. I decided to visit Dr. Tan to see if it would make sense to get a tune-up. I went to his office on Post Street and was impressed with the quality and professionalism of all the people who work there. I had my eyes measured and had various things checked out before I meeting with Dr. Tan. He looked at my eyes and suggested that I should get some light eyeglasses for my nearsightedness
rather than getting my eyes redone. I really appreciated that he cared more about me as a patient than about making more money. Needless to say, Dr. Tan will be getting all my business in the future as well as my referrals.Helpful 3Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Pancetta B.San Francisco, CA014Feb 14, 2018
Awful office. I made a new patient appointment on their website via Zocdoc. I waited a week for my appointment.
Twenty minutes before my appointment, his front office called to tell me that because I made my appointment online, they don't have an optometrist to check my prescription, so they can dilate me, but cannot do a full eye exam. So I have to make a second appointment.
I asked why no one had called me before then. They had even sent a reminder text yesterday for my appointment. Why didn't they notify me then. The front desk said that it was because I made the appointment online. So it was MY fault.
Their office manager offered to ask the doctor if he would "exceptionally check my vision" but he doesn't like to do check vision. She added that he would charge me separately for it outside of my insurance. She couldn't tell me what he would charge for the "exception".
Not acceptable.
If they can't even manage to use their own online appointment system properly, I would never trust them to operate on my eyes using *gasp* a computer!Helpful 4Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Mark O.San Francisco, CA05Apr 6, 2015First to Review
For a few months I had been thinking about LASIK in the back of my mind. I've worn glasses my entire life (20/200 vision), tried contacts but could never get the habit of putting them on and taking them off, plus they'd bother me after extended use. I wasn't really planning to take action with regard to LASIK, just wondered if it was for me or not. I recently went to visit Dr. Kevin Tan for an annual exam and he casually mentioned LASIK as a option for me to consider, and helped me appreciate the cost-benefit of it. Basically, the earlier I get LASIK the less I'm spending on multiple pairs of glasses each year or two which will eventually add up to the cost of LASIK, and then some.
I explored the option with Dr. Tan in the office and continued the conversation over e-mail. He was more than happy to respond and very timely. He helped address all of my concerns, medical and financial. The greatest realization I had to face was when I get older (older than 40/45) I'd have to wear glasses again. Turns out that's just a fact of life for everyone and I'd eventually have to wear bi-focals if I didn't get LASIK. After preparing myself for it, I scheduled the operation. I strongly recommend taking something for anxiety before the operation, it was very helpful though I was still quite a bit anxious during the operation. If I hadn't taken anything I probably would have freaked out just for the fact that someone was operating on my eye.
All in all the operation was over in probably less than 10 minutes and after resting for a few hours I could notice my vision was already better than without glasses, and it seemed to progressively get better through the night. I e-mailed Dr. Tan that night with some questions about eye maintenance and making sure I understood the recovery protocol. He responded within minutes! After my checkup the very next day I discovered I now have 20/15 vision, better than with glasses!
Dr. Tan was great the entire process from beginning to end. I'm really glad I chose him as my doctor for LASIK. He also works out of two offices, one near Stonestown Mall and the other near the financial district, both were convenient to me at different times.
Good luck with your decision to do LASIK or not and which doctor to choose, but I didn't go wrong.Helpful 4Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Abbey L.Larkspur, CA081Jan 24, 2019
I'm now 3 months post-op from my Lasik surgery with Dr Tan. The procedure was quick and easy, by the morning after I could see clearly. My vision was corrected to 20/20 and except for a bit of dry eye the first month, I've had zero complications. My only regret is not doing it sooner. I highly recommend Dr Tan to anyone considering Lasik surgery!

This is a review just for the front office. Rude and refused to place me on a cancellation list. Disappointing as I have heard Dr Tan has a great reputation.

Dear Ana, I'm sorry that I was unable to see you on the day that you requested an appointment. I am usually out of the office on Fridays. I can empathize with you that it is frustrating to have to wait to see a specific doctor on a timely basis. However, my receptionist informed me that she gave you the option of seeing one of our other ophthalmologists earlier and even offered you a same-day appointment. Putting you on a cancellation list for a day I'm not seeing patients is really not beneficial. I hope you give us another chance to serve you!

The one thing that I really like about Dr. Kevin Tan is that he actually cares about my eyes and takes the time to address my concerns.
I just moved to SF and it was hard for me to find an ophthalmologist to help me with my dry eyes. I stumbled across Dr. Kevin Tan through my insurance network. I saw Dr. Tan and he helped my eyes so much by adding plugs.
His office is located in Union Square so it was an easy walk for me before work (parking can be a little hard but I think there is a parking garage next to the building). I was really nervous before my appointment but Dr. Tan was very patient and explained every step of the process with me.
I feel very comfortable and I am glad to have found a eye doctor who I can trust. I have been back regularly to check on my eyes and I would recommend anyone to stop by his office.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0
