The food was really nice, especially the dragon crunch roll. The service was ok, kind of slow. Super expensive.... ambiance mostly young people.

The restaurant itself had a nice ambiance, could be a good spot for just getting sushi or also going on a cute date. I gave it 4 stars because nothing really WOWed me, but I don't want that to take away from the fact that it was still a solid japanese/sushi restaurant - good ambiance, good service, beautiful plating on the dishes.
We ordered the Crunch Tuna, Orange Blossom Roll, and Pink Lady Roll.
Crunch Tuna:
I love a good spicy tuna on crispy rice, so this is always my go-to menu choice. The rice was just crispy enough, not too hard, and it had a good balance of spicy tuna.
Orange Blossom Roll (In: salmon, avocado; Out: salmon, tobiko, seasoned chopped salmon):
A whole lot of salmon, but I love salmon. This roll was really good, everything just melted in your mouth. And the roll was so beautiful.
Pink Lady Roll (In: spicy tuna, cucumber; Out: tuna, tobiko, scallion with carpaccio sauce):
Similar to the orange blossom roll, but tuna instead. This roll did not disappoint and the carpaccio sauce gave it a nice touch.
I would definitely come back again and try some other appetizers and rolls!

Ordered through DD: the delivery was great, food arrived warm.
We got the fried oysters, and tempura appetizer, and both were good and still crispy outside when they arrived.
Our Japanese lasagna and Bay Island rolls were massive, but we're just overwhelmingly covered in sauces, which made them soupy and very un sushi-like.
The flavor of both was great, and they were still warm, but the ratios and texture were just off due to the sauce.
The plain udon was plain udon, but that's to be expected.
Great packaging and delivery, good appetizers, but the main course just missed.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Suz M.San Francisco, CA02258Jan 14, 2024
Great sushi spot with a lot of options for vegetarians as well as fish lovers. They also have chicken and beef food options in case you are curious.
The tempura platter is BIG and has lots of veggies and shrimp if you order with shrimp. The tempura platter comes with miso soup, steamed rice and salad. We also ordered Dragon roll, Tekka maki, Langoustine roll and Cherry Blossom roll. The standard here is artificial
crab but your can switch to REAL CRAB for an up charge.
Save room for dessert they have green tea ice cream and green tea cheesecake! My personal favorite. I can't remember what else because I was blinded by the green tea cheesecake option!
And because someone may want to know, their root beer is really good and deserved a mention because a lot of sushi restaurants don't serve root beer and this one was particularly yummy! (Yes that is a run on sentence, and I am aware and don't care. )
They have their own parking lot which is a plus. And the time we went there wasn't a wait so we were seated immediately. Nice ambiance but the booths aren't really comfy. The service is great and everything was served the appropriate temperature and refills were offered continuously.
Worth a visit IMO.

We love coming here! The Japanese lasagna is our favorite, it melts in your mouth! I tried the Chirashi today, everything was fresh and good! The house salad tasted different but it's okay, The miso soup was not as hot but still good. The servers are very friendly! Comfortable seats, the bathroom is always clean!

Service is okay- the server asked us four times if we were ready to order as soon as we got seated; it felt rushed, but it was fast; just make sure you know what you want right away. The place is maintained clean.

I honestly had lower expectations because I thought this was overrated when I visited years back. But surprisingly, being my first Japanese meal since massively eating in Japan, I still thought the food was great!
If you're into traditional Japanese dishes or rolls, there are better options out there. But if you like saucy rolls, baked rolls, bentos, and plates, you won't be disappointed! There's a massive sushi menu with all sorts of rolls. Spicy, saucy, baked, fried, low carb...you name it.
They have specialty cocktails and house wine in addition to sake and beer. Service was attentive and friendly. And they have lots of tables and booths that accommodate up to 6 or more people.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - 4754251197Dec 1, 2023
One of the most mid sushi places I've tried in the Bay. The price definitely does not justify the quality. Everything here is so average, which is not what I was expecting at such high prices. Might as well go to a mid ayce place. The service was really good but I wouldn't come again.
If I had to pick, my favorite dish that I got would have to be the mango crunch roll. Nice mix of flavor and texture. Do not get the scallop carpaccio. It tasted super fishy.

this is probs my 3rd time here, and food never disappoints. I tried to go for different rolls every time I come, but my usual go to here is the dragon roll and lion king. On this visit, i ordered the ultimate shrimp roll, it was nice and crunchy, yet also refreshing 4/5. Then the popcorn langoustine roll, very nice and crunchy, paired with the sauce was good as well, just wish there was more inside the rice in general 3.5/5 last we go the bay island roll, which is a baled roll. It was good overall, but very wet. The scallops were nice, but because the roll was very wet, it was hard to grab. 3/5. The service was good and quick, and they were very nice and attentive to order. Good sushi place overall.

Kenji Sushi is nearby Santana Row and the Westfield Mall. It is a busier area, but they have their own parking lot, so it is way more convenient. There is plenty of seating inside from bar seating to booths to tables. Service is just okay, even though it was not too busy.
I ordered their Orange Blossom, which is kind of a double salmon roll, as well as an order of salmon nigiri. I love salmon, so I enjoyed both of these rolls and it tasted fresh. I wished that the double salmon did not have all that extra stuff that came with the roll, and it would just have salmon on the inside and outside by itself. The salmon nigiri was decent - I wished that it did not come with wasabi, or at least if I had known, I would had ordered it without it.Helpful 4Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0May 10, 2017Previous reviewExpected more from this place but overall nice staff. I think they're a bit understaffed because I see the waiter/waitress running around and always in a hurry. One of the waiters even apologized to my table for taking so long and forgetting stuff, gave us a complimentary miso soup and salad also. I got the double salmon roll (orange blossom roll) with no avocado. Prices are a bit pricey but it was in Santana row so I understand. Sushi wasn't bad, it was one of the only sushi places that open late especially past 9 or 10 am (they closed at 12 midnight). Very small parking lot and hard to get out of if you don't find parking and have to back up especially if you've a bigger car.

For the affordable price point, large portion sizes, and fast service, I think Kenji Sushi deserves minimum 4 stars. Perhaps some complimentary edamame or dessert would bump their ratings but for a two-dollar sign spot, everything pretty much met our expectations. Here's what we ordered:
Pink Lady (4/5 stars)
Rainbow Roll (4/5 stars)
Baked Mussels (4.5/5 stars)
Calamari (4/4 stars)Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0
