Studied at Kayak's while I wrote a final paper. Wouldn't go here if you need intense studying done since the music is a little loud and there are a lot of people who meet here for a coffee or for business meetings. Though I love the atmosphere with a mix of WashU students and those individuals in the working world taking a little break.
Also you can order s'mores on their menu! Where else can you get that?! And you roast your own! I would really recommend coming here if you're by Del mar or by forest park.
The vanilla latte is incredible as well as the different wraps.
I've never been a Kaldi's fan (Not sure why right now). I say this as I am drinking the most amazing latte I have had!
I should have ordered this XL!
I've been here lots of times. Great decor/atmosphere and wonderful snacks and amazing coffee.
Keep it up!
I've been stuck at WashU for a conference and in desperate need of some real people food. I walked by Kayak's a few times and finally walked in for breakfast on Friday. Excellent!
I had oatmeal with granola, bananas, and blueberries, with some almond milk and an iced green tea...all for $8!!!! CHEAP! My friend had a bagel and a latte and was also very pleased. Great coffee shop with lots of seating, low prices, quality ingredients, and excellent service.
Nice stop for a quick lunch in the immediate Wash U vicinity. I ordered the chicken curry sandwich on wheat with an apple side. The curried chicken salad had good flavor. There were other interesting items on the menu that would've been good to try, should I ever return. Their pastry display looked yummy. My kids enjoyed the smoothies they ordered.
I would've liked a larger of selections of more interesting breads for the sandwich, but that's a small matter. The apple they initially gave me was all bruised, but the cashier switched it out for me, which was nice.
The atmosphere was cozy. The light filtering in from the windows in the main room was awesome. It would be be a nice place to linger over coffee or while studying.
Overall: Great ambience, plenty of space to do work, their music is annoying
Menu: A ton of coffee options, but they aren't "out-of-the-park" at anything. Their breakfast sandwiches are good, but not great.
Price: A bit on the expensive side.
Service: Their staff is super nice and actually puts an effort in their work.
My husband and I visited Kayak's one morning as soon as they opened on our way to another appointment. I remember my orthodontist mentioning this place and he seemed to be in love with it! I ordered the Turkish Latte and my husband got the Mint Latte (both seasonal drinks). OMG...the Turkish Latte made my soul soooo freaking happy! It was the perfect temp and the latte art was super cute. On the other hand, we did not care for the Mint Latte, but that is just a personal preference. I then took my mom back a few days latter so she could try the Turkish Latte, and she LOVED it was well. On the second visit, we also tried out their scones. I can't remember what other flavor was paired with it, but it had chocolate chips in it! It was really good with my latte!!!
The atmosphere is really cool and laid back. Being that our first visit was right when they opened, it was obviously less crowded. My mom and I visited on a Saturday morning and it seemed like the talk of the town. The line was all the to the door, but the crew managed to do really well with getting the orders out correct and fast. There is ample seating and such a great place to bring your laptop or iPad and enjoy life!
Another coffee spot to add to my list of favorites!!!
Great little place. I had the Cortina sandwich which was awesome. My wife really enjoyed the Mediterranean Salad and the kids loved the hummus. I recommend this place if you are anywhere in the vicinity of WashU.
70% WashU students work/live in this relative large cafe with a small parking lot in the back and next to the Skinker Metro Station.
Pros:
1) Lots of seating with outlets
2) Espresso with an espresso bean/club soda water
3) Coffee is good/okay
4) Food besides local bakery items
5) Lots of Lighting and you can sit looking out the window/people watch
6) Outdoor seating
7) Bearbucks approved
Cons:
1) Busy, busy, busy and it's hard to find a seat at times
I really love this place.
The parking situation is another story, and honestly deters me from stopping by sometimes. They have a tiny lot in the back and if it's all taken up, there aren't many other great options. Luckily I'm usually there pretty early so I can snag one, but it's typically a pain.
Kaldi's coffee is at Kayak's, so it's no surprise that the drinks are fantastic. I usually stick with black coffee (a girl needs to caffeinate!), but the lattes, cappuccinos, and everything in between, are consistently fantastic. The food selection is good too, and I like that I can get a healthy lunch here at a really reasonable price.
It gets really busy so be ready for that, but the back room is perfect for studying or working if you feel like being in a more quiet space.
Kayak's is a charming place to spend some time. I'm sure I'll be back soon!
Kayak's was my go-to coffee shop/cafe back in college. I went to Kayak's when I needed caffeine in my system, when I craved one of their delicious fruit smoothies, or when I needed a warm scone before class. After graduating from WashU, I still occasionally swing by Kayak's even though it's out of the way. The people working at Kayak's are incredibly friendly and chill. It's a great place to study, read a book, or catch up with friends. The food here is not too shabby either. I really like their breakfast items (love the French toast) and the White flatbread pizza. Their sandwiches and wraps are alright, but I would prefer to order them from other places.
I'm not sure if they offer this year-round, but I like to come here during the winter months and order the do-it-yourself s'mores. They give you a bunch of marshmallows, a Hershey's chocolate bar, graham crackers, skewers, and an ethanol gel can. It's really fun and you get to enjoy delicious s'mores in a cozy coffee shop.
Cannot express my love for this place ... I love studying here, the atmosphere is super nice, the people are friendly and cool, the food is amazing, and the coffee perfect.
Get the egg bagel or berry french toast for breakfast, the Ozark for lunch, and the zucchini sunflower bread for a snack.
Unfortunately it is kind of on the pricey side :( even just regular iced coffee is kind of expensive :( but I promise it's worth! Also they have punch cards for coffee so that when you get 10 you get a free drink!
I am writing in pure frustration because this is one of my favorite local businesses; yet they've for some odd reason been reported as MOVED! This is an error; a huge error. No, I take that back. It's a lie.
Yayaks is a large cafe located across from Wash. U at the corner of Skinker & Forest Park.
They offer free Wi-Fi, plenty of spacious seating at their amazing heavy wooden tabletops including bar style window seating and patio tables as well.

This is my go-to spot; I'm in love with this place; they know they can't get rid of me lol..
No way I could allow them to be MOVED!
I'm torn on this review because the layout is gorgeous and the food beautiful and pretty tasty but the service felt a bit conceited and its definatly a college coffee house. I dig coffee houses tremendously, but this one wasn't warm and welcoming even though the decor expresses that vibe. When the staff is subtly pretentious it comes across and lessens the experience. How hard is it to smile and ask how you are doing?? But maybe they were having an off day? Who knows? So if I focus on just the coffee and food well the coffee is really great, but Comet coffee is better. The two sandwiches we got were tasty but I wouldn't say they were amazing.
It's funny to see all these college kids plugged into their electronics sipping java and clueless as to anyone else near them! I saw one couple talking but the rest were just staring at screens. On a different subject, black toilets and sinks in the bathroom look gross unless they are cleaned all the time. But the decor in the dinning area is well designed.
I wouldn't give up on Kayak's just yet but first impressions do mean a lot.
Tip: There is a parking lot just around the corner behind the building but make sure you've got some quarters for the meter, and there is a one hour time limit on them.
Great brunch and breakfast. Near Wash U main campus so I can get a quick lunch before class
Love Kayak's! Especially for breakfast. I've been here a few times in the morning and I have tried a few of their different breakfast items - the crustless quiche is my fave!
I will say, it does get pretty packed here in the mornings.. they have a side back room for additional seating and if it's nice out you can sit outside, but sometimes it has been tough to find a table.
I also enjoy their brewed coffees. They usually have a different coffee/country of origin coffee each time I've been here and it's been nice to try some different brews.
Good coffee, good food, great environment! I highly recommend the oatmeal, for .50 each you can add fresh fruit and nuts. I added bananas, blueberries, almonds and walnuts...delicious! 2.00 refill is a rip-off and my only complaint, 2.00? Almost dropped them to 4 stars for that.
Kayaks is always a great place to go to chill and get a drink...only if you can find the parking. Last time my wife and I had to walk 1/4 of a mile...
Caramel Latte is the best...
2 - for coffee/ 4- for the atmosphere. Location is great and close to the metro. You can pay for parking via coins. Service is friendly. We had a latte and a hot chocolate. I don't recommend neither!
Good coffee and good food. Hard to find parking.
Me plus a book, a laptop or a friend = happiness at Kayak's. Definitely a joint for a lot of young folks in the area or off WashU campus. But also a good spot for young professionals like myself who want a good cup of coffee or lunch and a place to relax for an hour. Families, do not fear - this place is more than perfect for you as well.
