This burger is 10x better then the burger they serve in the bar lounge in the main building. I was told the hamburger Pattie's are not even from the same companies. I had both and Karstens burger wins by a long shot.

Very very good. We will go back tomorrow for lunch.
We grabbed a nice cheeseburger with fries. And warm tomato soup with a side of cornbread.
We definitely recommend this place.
They'll be closing soon for the season. But when they open again.
You must eat here if you're staying at the McKinley chalet or anywhere near by.

Modern rustic decor, poorly trained wait staff and mediocre food.
Don't order an appetizer the same time as the meal as the entree will arrive long before the appetizer. We just canceled the appetizer.
Halibut fish and chips was over cooked and tough. The Alaskan Rockfish was excellent.
The waiter Jonathan acted goofy and was poorly trained for food service.
This lodge and restaurant is part of the Holland America land tour package and the service/food quality doesn't meet the ship standards.

You might think you're out in the middle of nowhere and this is the closest place to eat. You might think the food can't be good. But you would be wrong! The food is very good here. The Jalapeño cornbread is excellent. The bacon on the wedge salad is fried crispy and so good. The breakfast buffet was varied and tasty. The restaurant has a large fireplace with a large crackling fire to keep you warm and toasty. The service was great and the staff were attentive but not overly so. They were very nice. It was a little pricey but to be expected.

I wasn't super stoked about this menu, but we went since it was convenient. The food was actually really good. One of these places that doesn't offer a lot, but is amazing at what they do offer. We had wings, sliders, parm fries, and a skillet cookie. Bourbon Arnold Palmer was great too!

Wonderful spot to stop for a night cap and dessert. The cookie with ice cream was enough to share. One bartender was exceptionally loud, but appeared to be having a good time. Our bartender was exceptional, calm, friendly and made great drinks.

Upscale, casual, contemporary, lodge-like dining.
I know... Oxymorons galore there. ha!
It's in a resort setting so be prepared for resort prices.

I had the King Crab Salad and it was very very good. Fresh and Light!

I also had a bloody mary which was also very good.... fresh but not light... definitely big on flavor and had a piece of bacon in it! Bacon makes everything better.

Also had the jalapeno corn bread. This too was very good! More like a cake really. The jalapeno was not over-powering nor was it spicy. You could definitely taste the jalapeno tho. I personally loved it and think it would be great for a winter time meal with a big bowl of hearty venison chili!

Service - a tad slow and not efficient. I think that's because they (like everywhere) are short staffed.

Food - really good

Ambiance - inside is a big open dining space, inviting, airy, comfortable, not stuffy or pretentious

Stayed at the McKinley Chalet Resort with a group of 9 and came here for dinner both nights and it didn't disappoint! Reservations are required for large parties but I would recommend making reservations regardless because it's the only restaurant at the resort open (not sure if it's covid-related).

They have an extensive menu with local Alaskan specialities like a caribou burger and dishes with king crab. Of all the dishes we ordered, the brisket sliders, jalapeño cornbread, king crab fettuccine and king crab salad were the standouts. The caribou burger was interesting to try but it tasted like a leaner, more well done beef burger (it's 80% caribou and 20% beef). The cookie skillet dessert topped with vanilla bean ice cream was also delicious!

The bottles of wine are also extremely affordable ($21 for a good quality Zinfandel). Special shout-out to Juan who was a fantastic server our first night there! He was super attentive, friendly and provided quick service to our large party.

I had an absolutely fantastic experience at Karsten's Public House!
