It was hot over the weekend and I was craving sushi and conveniently there is a restaurant that serves it pretty close by!
The interior is cute, but there are TONS of pictures of sushi littering the walls. It almost makes you want to order another roll!
My favorite part was the garlic gyoza! The sauce was out of this world. I got the shrimp lovers roll which is a pretty standard and delicious choice. Whenever I'm craving sushi again I'll definitely have to try another of Jump Tokyo's rolls!Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Gilberto L.La Jolla Shores, San Diego, CA2959111Apr 7, 2024
Been a few times now and it's become one of my favorite sushi places to go. It's a small, family run business which always comes with its pros and cons. Service is so-so at times, great at others, but they do genuinely try every time.
This time around we ordered the chicken teriyaki bowl. Serving size is good, chicken itself is okay. Jalapeño bombs, which were bomb and will definitely order again.
Sushi wise I ordered the Power Roll which was delicious! The toppings (tuna, salmon, onion, massago) were stacked high and falling off. Would definitely recommend.
The rest of the sushi was much more modest. A simple California roll, which I enjoyed. A spicy salmon hand roll, which I liked but probably wouldn't get again. The seaweed wrap was a little extra seaweed(y) compared to other places. Genuinely curious why, and whether that's a good thing or not. But it was my first hand roll there so I can't compare it to another one. And finally, a 911 roll, which was okay. It's basically a California roll, except they replace the cucumber bits with slices of jalapeño. The last two were on their 2 for 12.99 menu, so I personally didn't expect anything mind blowing.
Drinks are either canned or bottled. They have Japanese beer only, no craft. Wine and sake aside of course.
Lastly, there's a fair amount of seating inside, so it doesn't take too long to get a table.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Maria I.Canada4585Jan 25, 2024

Been 2x in 1 month.
Great service. Good sushi. Good price. Hits the spot. Ordered power roll, and their 2 roll special. It's plenty of food for 1 person. Order a second set of their double roll and for 2 people you are solid. Beer special for dine in is a good deal too.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - 05353Dec 10, 2023
Ordered the California Cut Roll, Philadelphia Cut Roll Spicy Tuna Cut Roll and Garlic Edamame to go. For these being the most basic and simple rolls you can order at a sushi restaurant, they were really lacking in flavor and were not good. I would try somewhere else. The edamame, however, was very tasty and the garlic sauce was good!

Good food, semi-fast service since there are two servers. I used to come to Jump Tokyo all the time in college until they raised prices and I moved out of the area.
I recently moved back to the area and decided to try it since its the closest sushi restaurant to me at the moment. It didn't disappoint.
I was slightly embarrassed with my last poor review but I don't think they knew I gave them a poor review or at least pretended not to. I am surprised they are still giving 2 rolls for $13. Not a bad deal especially with the inflation. I also ordered the Power Roll since I was pretty hungry.
Food: 4/5 ordered my usuals - spicy salmon and salmon skin roll - as well as a power roll due to the recommendation of the server.
Service: 3.5/5 They were kinda slow in giving us the bill and my husband was getting impatient
Parking: there is plenty of parking in the plaza. They are next to San Diego Brewery and Dennys/Einstein Bagels.
Recommendation: Get the power roll! It was delicious! :)Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 1Feb 28, 2015Previous reviewI used to be such a huge fan of this place due to their great sushi deals, good food (it's still good), and great atmosphere, but the last few times I've been here the service has been so unwelcoming. The charming cashier lady now feels jaded, unhappy and a money monger. The energetic chef now seems tired but still kind and generous with his portion. They also charge now for extra spicy mayo. I know the economy is changing and I am more than flexible with change but if the service I get is unwelcomed and slow on an empty day then I'm taking my business elsewhere. Also unlike traditional korean style, the tofu soup does not come with appetizers or an egg. Just the soup and rice. It's still good but I would just go here if you're by the area and want a good sushi deal.
Sep 20, 2013Previous reviewI love jump tokyo. The deals for their rolls are amazing! They have super cheap sake bombs and two rolls for $7.50? Sweet baby jesus!!!! Plus, their hosts are super nice and if you're not feeling sushi, they have yummy korean bbq which is probably their specialty since the workers are korean. Try the spicy mayo with your crunchy california roll. SO GOOD. I always feel at home here.

Perfect for Sunday Night. I recommend the New York roll with tuna and crunch. The place is rather popular as there is people every time I go there.

This is a great sushi restaurant if you are in the area and looking for a quick meal. Their sushi isn't the freshest or the highest quality, but it is really affordable! Service is very quick and friendly. Such a great small family owned restaurant.
They have a special of 2 rolls for $12.95 (as of 12/2022) so I chose the CA crunch roll and salmon skin roll. Both were good but I really enjoyed the crunch roll. All of their other specialty rolls range from $10-$13 which is a great deal. I would definitely come here again for a quick meal if I'm in the area!Helpful 6Thanks 0Love this 5Oh no 0 - C.
