JT Express is in Japantown so parking can be a little hard if you don't want to play for metered parking. There is parking off the main street if you don't mind a little walk. The restaurant is pretty small, only one table for sitting inside, but it's more of a togo place in my opinion.
Lots of fun foods to try and eat. I love their sushirito selection and the crab salad in their California rolls. My guilty pleasure is their Kahlua fries/tots, so comforting whenever I need a pick me up. I also love their party snack mix, which is a hit whenever I bring it to a party or when I'm snacking alone. Their ice cream is also such a great treat for a hot day. Overall, you can't go wrong since they have such a wide variety of things to eat.
They get super busy during the weekend nights so if you want to grab something, expect to wait maybe 45 minutes for your order (plan ahead!).

This place is so underrated it hasn't had too many reviews in the past six months. It's more of a take-out rather than dine-in though they do have outdoor seating. Prices are the same from it was a year ago which is why I keep coming back and I chose the chicken katsu bento comes with rice, potstickers, macaroni salad, edamame and a cup of sauce all that for $14 quite a real bargain for a simple bento meal.

Came in around 11 and was greeted by the young lady and I order one bento kalua pork consist of shredded pork, rice, macaroni salad, three potstickers and four pieces of edamame (boiled soybeans) for $14.00 and my favorite is the six rolls of minced takoyaki balls for $7.50. The place is more for take-out than for dine-in though there's an outdoor seating. In the summer I would have the bubbies mochi ice cream in different flavors and they are so refreshing along with the shaved ice cream.
Aug 8, 2020Previous reviewGrowing up in Japan I've always craved mochi ice cream and shaved ice which comes in several flavors unfortunately their machine wasn't set up on time what a bummer well anyway Bro and I've been coming down here for the past six years customer service has always been top notch and their menu selection is endless their specialty mochi ice cream green tea and chocolate coconut are my favorite. So we decided on a sushi bento though Bro order the loco mono that's two burger patties with rice, two eggs layer with gravy price $8.95. I had the sushi bento that's five tempura shrimps, three potstickers, rice and two cups of macaroni and soy sauce price $13 very reasonable generous portions. Would definitely come back Japantown has alot to offer with its quaint shops, restaurants and cafe so continue to support your local business.

Ordered the bento poke plate online. The portion was good for the price! They're closing at the end of the month so I'll be back to try other things on the menu!

I looooove their spam misubi. I use to buy them at Roy's coffee (which they sold out quickly) and I found out I could just walk across the street and order them here!!!! Now I normally will drop by to pick up two to eat at work when I'm in the area. Great ice cream from the Santa Cruz Marianne's ice cream shop.

A very filling bento after a long day at work. My workplace catered JT Express for lunch and I was really excited. We each got a Chicken Teriyaki Bento, which came with cherry tomatoes, a California roll, edamame, a side salad, AND a potato croquette.
The food was good quality. The chicken was tender, but wow... they put a lot of teriyaki sauce! It was drenched. The California roll was pretty thick and had a lot of crab salad and avocado inside. A bit too much rice for me though. The cherry tomatoes were sour, but that's a minor thing. I LOVED the salad dressing though! So tangy and flavorful with the lettuce and cucumbers. The potato croquette was the perfect end to the bento. Crispy, soft, and filled with various vegetables inside.

While I was walking around San Jose's Japantown, I was looking for a place that was open for food mid afternoon. Most places were closed and opened again for dinner after 5pm, except for JT Express. I did a quick Yelp search and was excited to try them out.
I ordered in person and got the Chicken Katsu bento (side of Mac salad & California Rolls), Kalua Pork bento (side of Mac salad & Gyoza), spicy crab roll (8 pieces), and 2 spam musubis (original and spam with egg) (about $50 total before tip).
I love Hawaiian food and they had the perfect variety to choose from. Everything was made to order, so I waited about 20 minutes before the food was ready. Customer service was nice and pleasant to work with.
All the food tasted amazing and was presented well. The chicken katsu was so tender and fried delicately. Unfortunately they forgot my Mac salad and included edamame instead, which was disappointing but wasn't a huge deal. The kalua pork was a bit on the salty side, but the sauces and rice complimented it perfectly. I think the spam musubis were yummy, but could've had a little less rice. Spicy California crab rolls were good too, but also could've had a little less rice. I wish they included more sauces on the side because I ran out of them halfway through the meal.
Overall, I was happy with everything I ordered and definitely would come back again when I'm in the mood for a little bit of authentic tasting Hawaiian food. The location is pretty convenient if you're already in Japantown and it's definitely worth a stop to support a local small business.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - 233323805Aug 3, 2021
This establishment is a quaint little place tucked away into the heart of San Jose's Japantown. It isn't a table cloth server comes to you type place. It's more of a walk up counter and this day the nice gentleman DID bring our order to us while we enjoyed their outdoor eating area.
Parking is plentiful as long as you aren't there during busy times like lunch, dinner and/or weekends I would assume. Since Japantown is in the middle of both residential and commercial buildings the parking is what it is during peak times.
You walk into this place and are greeted by a counter and a well lit display case that houses some of their treats. Up above behind the cashier is the menu. When we try places though I typically look at the menu ahead of time along side the reviews to see what most recommend.
What we ordered:
1. Edamame to start $4.00
2. Katsu Bento Box (x2) $12.00 each: Both my youngest and husband ordered this meal. It came with a boneless pork katsu on top of rice, 2 tbsp of macaroni salad, and my son had 2 fried gayoza and my husband had 4 pcs of cali roll.
3. My eldest son ordered a veggie bento box ($11.00) and a veggie musubi ($4.50). The veggie bento box came with a colorful stir fry in teriyaki sauze over rice and it also had 2 pcs of inari sushi. Veggies were fresh. Sauce wasn't over powering and the order was plentiful. The veggie musubi was delicious and he said hit the spot. It was his favorite if he had to choose.
4. Now for what I had. I ordered their Summer Burrito ($15.00). This had raw salmon, rice, avocado and cucumber rolled in nori. There was a decent amount of salmon. The rice and filling ratio was perfect. I'd order it again.
5. We also ordered 2 bottles of water and 1 matcha latte.
With tip I paid about $80.
We may be here again and it may be at the request of my eldest son whom has recently gone vegetarian. He was a real fan of that veggie musubi and we've never seen it anywhere else.

Convenient spot for quick bites and ice cream in Japantown. Personally, my favorite thing they carry is Marianne's ice cream - the matcha flavor is solid. They also carry an assortment of Bubbies mochi ice cream.
As far as food, my partner likes their katsu sandwich. They have a handful of vegetarian options available, and it seems that they've been increasing the number of options over the last year or two. The sushi burritos are worth trying and are filling, and you can customize your own if you want (I find that I need to be in the mood for it to get it since it's a cold item). If I'm in the mood for sushi, I like their inari and tamago nigiri. These come with a little bit of edamame, though sadly it seems to be unseasoned. I have tried the vegetarian musubi as well, but I probably wouldn't get it again -- I felt it needed more umami and the rice was a bit mushy in parts. So I'm still working on finding something that I would more consistently get and find satisfying, but they do have a pretty varied menu, so there are lots of things for most people to try.
One of the quirks about JT Express is that unlike most other Japantown establishments, they're open on Mondays and closed on Sundays. They also open early in the day compared to other Japantown restaurants. In any case, I would still come back for dessert and to try other menu items.

Came here for the shaved ice today on this hot day. Tigers blood was yummy for me. The lime, strawberry and cherry was satisfying as well.
*Customer service was nice. Asked what we wanted, made sure our order was right, patient and seemed friendly.
*Outdoor seating; 3 tables outside and a bench. Area was clean.
