I had a grilled cheese on white bread (the only other option is wheat) with American Cheese (the other option is Swiss. I also ordered fries ($1.50 additional when ordered with a sandwich) and requested they be cooked well done.

The good about the grilled cheese is that it was very cheesy. It's cheap American cheese that tastes artificial and has a sour aftertaste in the end. There was only one slice but it was thick. The cheese was nicely melted and the bread perfectly browned. There was an extreme lack of butter though. I like buttered bread that causes me to have to wipe my fingers often. There was no need in this case.

My fries, if they listened to my request and cooked them 'well done', were basically cooked like Norma fries. They were okay. I would have hated them if they were cooked any less, but have loved them if they were cooked more. I'm picky with my fries.

I asked for a cup of water and the cashier pointed to bottled water so I took a pass.

The sandwich and fries totaled $5.98 with tax and overall it was a decent meal for the location.

Grilled cheese with fries. Butter would be nice. Otherwise a decent sandwich.
      Thick cheese and nicely melted.

This is a typical fast food Mexican burger joint of ok quality. They used to have good Carne Asada fries but now it's hit or miss.

This is drunk people food. Either you're going to get drunk later or you're already drunk. If you follow the sidewalk up Broxton to LeConte and then up Gayley, there's a high chance (especially on a Thursday night) that one of the vomit piles is Jose B's.

Regardless, this place is never going out of business. It's too close to the campus and has been here forever.

I abstained from writing a review after my first visit because the food was terrible. But, after returning, I feel compelled to add my two cents.

I wanted a quick snack both times that I went and "quick" is what I got. Both times, my food was ready in less than 5 minutes! Unfortunately, neither experience was good. I tried the carne asada taco and the monster taco with carne asada.

As I waited the second time I saw them pull tortillas out of a bag from the grocery store and they threw them on the grill alongside what appeared to be pre-cooked meat. The meat had absolutely no flavor! The guacamole was thin and it had no taste. Hoping for some help from the salsa bar, I tried the pico de gallo which fell victim to the same lack of flavor that was running rampant in that place.

My advice to others who may be looking for a quick "Mexican cuisine" snack in the area is to check out Taco Bell around the corner. The quality is about the same and it may be a bit cheaper. The only silver lining to this experience is that I only spent about $5 total!

Every time I come here I always get Nachos De Jose and/or horchata. I enjoy the food and so does my boyfriend. We probably should expand on the giant menu they have but we just like what we normally get.

This place is an easy walk from campus or north of wilshire apts. it's across the street from diddy reese.

I've always wanted to try Jose Bernstein's because it's in a super convenient location in Westwood and because it looks cheap.

Well, those statements are still true, I guess.

I ordered a burrito here and decided to eat in.

Look, it was like a Friday night or something, and it wasn't the most happening place in the world. The guys working were pretty nice, so I'll give 'em that.

Under the dingy lights, my only friend was the salsa bar. Unfortunately, my friend had been sitting out for a while and looked flat.

For basically the only time in my life, I failed to finish a burrito. This is truly a dark spot in my many years on this planet.

I couldn't bring myself to eat another bite of tough carne asada with little to no flavor profile. The thing with me is that I love myself a burrito, but this wasn't really authentic in the slightest. Maybe I'm too used to awesome burritos.

Overall, I walked out with a sense of sadness. The mighty Jose Bernstein's had failed me.

This is a pretty sad picture haha...

Jose B and I go waaay back.

Back to my college days, when finals were tough, Jose was there offering late night delivery. And those drunken nights Jose greeted me with greasy sobering goods.

Yea the presentation is kind of lacking BUT what they lack in beauty they make up in personality. The menu here is pretty impressive spanning from breakfast goods such as breakfast burritos and pancakes, to pastrami sandwiches and tortas. Sure flavor wise they may be lacking but their willingness to please a surfeit of palates is commendable.

Recently I went back just to see if Jose kept to my expectations and I was disappointed. They still aim to please offering the choice of wheat tortillas in lieu of flour. My breakfast burrito was pack with eggs, mushroom, cheese, avocado and potatoes. All ingredients although lacked in flavor really jammed together texturally. It was priced reasonably and was made swiftly.

      So A for effort Jose!

Jose is a small little joint that looks promising from its appearance and menu, but just comes up short on all fields except customer service. The dudes working are super nice, but the food leaves a few things to be desired in terms of Mexican in the region.

Part of the problem is that there are so many other places that just do the same thing but better in walking distance. There is nothing special here, except for their awesome late night hours and delivery.

Came here late night because my Mexican food craving kicked in.

I'm actually pretty upset that I wasted a cheat meal here. I should have went to a random taco truck. This place wasn't bad, it just wasn't my cup of tea. We got a carne asada burrito and a fish burrito. DO NOT get the fish burrito. SUPER disappointing. The fish was probably frozen because it was super dry and tasted like it was weeks old. Had to drown this bad boy in 3 different kinds of salsa. The carne asada burrito wasn't bad but I will tell you.. other spots make better carne asada burritos imo. Thank god for the salsa bar. They had like 3 different kinds of salsa.

I probably wouldn't come back here again but we came here originally because it was close, and it was opened. The guy working the counter was really nice. Saw us struggling to put tons of salsa together and he came over with a paper bag for us. Horchata was good too.

Been to the store once, gotten delivery twice. I like the salsa bar, it looks kind of ghetto, but I didn't get food poisoning, so woohoo! Get as much salsa as you need!

Delivery: They just wanna get the heck out of dodge. They drive up to your place, and don't even leave the car when they hand you the food. But, the less interaction the better. I'm alright with this method.

      Food:
Bacon with home potatoes breakfast burrito:
Meh, it was okay. Sort of bland, the salsa they provided didn't really save the flavor. It wasn't anything to write home about, but it was a decent price for the amount of food that I got. $4.89, btw.

      Carne Asada Burrito:
Could use more seasoning, but the salsa they provide definitely helps.

      Galbi Burrito:
Well-seasoned. Would totally recommend! Jose Bernstein's take on the ever so popular Korean-Mexican fusion.

Overall: Don't expect AMAZING Mexican food, this is Westwood afterall. For convenience and locale, I'll give it 4 stars. Great portions for the price!
