J Walsh Construction

We hired J Walsh Construction to build a MAJOR kitchen re-model 2 years ago. We removed walls, re-located windows and dealt with City of San Diego permits. Jon & his crew are 5 star and he will never "rip you off". The only reason I docked them a bit was due to a couple of his subs, particularly his cabinet maker, who cut some corners. Jon worked tirelessly, at his expense, to fix any problems. The entire crew is honest and respectful. I've recommended them to friends and neighbors and all were happy. He has recently hired a designer and she is WONDERFUL. We are using them to remodel our master bath and closet now. Again, this is not a simple remodel but I trust them to do everything beautifully!

Very unprofessional company!
I waited 2 weeks for my appointment with the owner Jon, took off work and drove out to the job site to meet with him. The Project Manager showed up and stated Jon couldn't make it. When asked, he stated he did review the plans that I was asked to email back when I scheduled. I figured he was the project manager and he was familiar with the plans so lets get it done. After walking the job site and answering all my questions with positive answers and him further stating that "this type of job is definitely in our wheelhouse" I was excited to have a company that could finally get this project across the finish line. I confirmed he had my email address and so I waited for the quote. 1 week, 2 weeks...nothing! So I call Amanda to let her know that it's been 2 weeks and I don't have the quote yet. She tells me, oh he had Covid and that's why you haven't gotten the quote yet. She said she was going to get in touch with the owner Jon. An hour later this is the email she send to me: Hello,
Thank You for the opportunity to walk through your project site. At this time we will not be able to provide the type of services you are looking for or need for your project. We thank you for your consideration and wish you the best going forward.

I was shocked at their response that they were "unable to provide construction services" as they were in possession of the plans for weeks and I was insulted at the "we have no need for your project" statement!

I left a voicemail for the owner asking politely for a return call to explain a little better, honestly still hoping this was some misunderstanding. I also replied to Amanda's email asking for the owner to call me. That was 9 days ago on the 21st of Jan. They have ignored all of my requests to date.

I have dodged a bullet not using this company, the last thing you want is to hire a contractor that cannot communicate.

J Walsh Construction is #1 company to do business with for me. I contacted the company and had them bid on building a new patio on the back of my house and several small projects. I was very pleased with the response and the work that the company did for me. They did the work in a timely manor and the construction workers were professional and courteous. They even took time to get to know the dogs. On another occasion I called Jon and needed some ramps for my door ways as I was temporarily in a wheelchair due to tripping over my dog and breaking my ankle in several places. Jon came out that same day and made 3 ramps for me. I can't say enough good things about Jon Walsh Construction and his employees. Call them and you will be pleased too!

Last year we decided to replace our old deck on our San Diego house and J Walsh Construction was recommended by a friend. We were extremely pleased with all aspects of this project--Jon's professionalism, his attention to detail, the way he and his workers worked and "cleaned up" each day, dealing well with set-backs with our "permit problem with the city" (he helped us tremendously through it all at no added expense!), and his over-all job performance when the deck was done. We would never hesitate to call him again for any project we would like done and know that he would do an excellent job at a very competitive price. We recommend him highly and feel confident that he would do a professional job on any construction project. Thank you Jon for running your construction company in a professional way at very competitive prices. We look forward to using your company again!
