To be honest this was my second attempt (1st attempt was at a completely different restaurant) at Indian food in the past FOUR years! I'm not typically a fan of various shades of sauces over meat, but India Cafe was the group pick for today's lunch and I thought since it had been awhile I'd give it another go... I started by sampling a lil of (almost) everything on their buffet to see what I liked. To my surprise I really liked the Chicken Tikka Masala over rice. While this was my only win from the buffet they other nine people I was with enjoyed ALL of the buffet.
We were greeted with smiles, quickly seated and received prompt service. The overall experience was good, and why I gave a 4-star rating. While I will probably not return my co-workers are already planning their next visit. If you enjoy Indian food this Cafe is worth adding to your list.
Including tax the lunch buffet was $11.98Helpful 3Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Dec 1, 2023
Visit here today because I just felt that this weather, rainy and cold cold for something warm and Hardy. So I went to get some Indian food and India café did not disappoint. The service was very punctual and our server was nice. He got our food out in a timely manner. I tried to order the iced tea it was unsweetened(not my thing.) So I went for the mango juice instead, which was amazing. The chicken marsala was nice and hot and the medium spice level was just right there was not a crumb left.
I would definitely recommend here, if you're looking for Indian food!Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Oct 30, 2022
I know how business works and how one customer's review can tank a business fast. So, this review is for them (owners) to learn of our extreme dissatisfaction with our experience. To address, change, and implement for future customers if they do desire to remain as a viable option to others that love Indian food....let's say I was disappointed and extremely overwhelmed with my experience.
Service: (3/5)--When we walked in there was only one other group seated in the building with us within the entire restaurant. There was only one waiter the entire time serving everyone. So we understood immediately that there would be some sort of delay. The entire time we were there the waiter seemed a bit uneasy with speaking with us. He also never refilled our cups. He did respond to our request for additional items at certain times.
Food: (2/5): The chicken wings that were ordered was good. But everything else was mediocre from the Samoa's to the Butter Chicken dish. I also found a hair in my food (which I was given the opportunity to choose which dish to comp.) But the food was not giving authentic Indian. The onion Naan Bread was delicious but the garlic naan was underwhelming.
Ambiance:
(It was giving old church vestibule). And there was a roach crawling on the floor under our booth that we had to kill. And when we brought it up to the waiter he did and said nothing about it. I'm vexed about my experience....Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 3 - 114352Oct 31, 2022
I've been here several times, but I've never eating inside. I can honestly say, had I never eaten inside I would definitely come again.
Unfortunately, there was a roach walking across the floor and a hair on my friend's plate.
The waiter was nice, but he didn't know enough about the dishes to answer questions.
My food was meh, I had a vegan dish. I used to eat the Chicken Hot Wings so I suggested them to my friends and that was a hit.
Overall, it was an experience I could have missed out on.Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 2 - Dec 14, 2022
Not the best but not the worst either. The staff were friendly, the food came out in a timely fashion, and the restaurant was clean. But there was no music or TV playing, which made it awkwardly and terrifyingly quiet. And something just didn't jell with the atmosphere. If you're in the area and want some Indian, this is a decent choice. I wouldn't go out of my way for it, though.

The food was ok but the tamarind chutney was like tea, it was all watered down & no taste, very disappointing to me as I like my pakora with it, it was like French fries with no salt or ketchup. Just don't enjoy the pakora without it! The delivery person did knock on door so it sat on my front porch for an hour before I found it. Everything was cold.

I tried the Chicken Tikka Masala and the Daal (lentil) soup - both were absolutely great and the Masala came with naan bread as well! I would recommend this establishment to everyone!! They do not disappoint!

My wife and I went to India Café for the first time tonight. We had a great time and already know we will be back!
The service was excellent and very welcoming.
We ate all vegetarian. There are options for vegan, vegetarian, seafood, chicken, lamb as well. Everything we had was spot on excellent. It was served "family style" where it was easy to try each other's dishes. We want to go back and have some chats and other items as well.
That you for a great date night!Helpful 3Thanks 0Love this 3Oh no 0 - Amanda V.Indianapolis, IN14134158Feb 19, 2023Updated review
Went back to try their butter chicken and chicken wings. DELICIOUS. The chicken wings were a little surprising, in a good way. It was dark meat chopped up, bone and all, swimming in a thick gravy. Oddly enough they really did give me that traditional chicken wing flavor. There was a hint of smokeyness to them. I loved the sauce. Chicken was tender in the butter chkn. Naan is always soft and hot.

I ordered extra hot and it was spicy, but not extra spicy. So, if you like spicy food don't be scared to order extra hot here. The Aloo dum is a potato dish in a tomato curry? with grilled/sautéed onions. Everything was cooked very well and the onions stood out as the dominate flavor. I didnt get much other spices noticed. A nice hearty potato and onion dish with a very mild sauce. The chicken chili was not spicy but more of a comfort meal of chicken in a mild sauce. At this rate, I'm gonna end up trying their whole menu because even if something new hasn't blown my socks off, everything is cooked very well and tasted good or amazing!
Mar 24, 2021Previous reviewLove love love this place. Ive been trying a lot of Indian restaurants and this one did everything right. The inside is clean and classy. Service was top notch. They have a patio area with umbrellas set up outside as well. Each meal comes with your choice of plain naan or garlic naan, cooked to perfection, and then smeared with Ghee. I also ordered paratha which is a bread filled with spices and potatoes. It was delicious dipped in the saucy meals or with one of the yummy chutneys. The green mint has a slight kick, not too spicy. The tamarind is sweet and tangy. (I like to mix the 2) and the onion chutneys is raw onion with both a sweet and slightly spicy seasoning. The samosas, filled with potatoes and spices, were the BEST! I could order a bunch of those and make it a meal. The Aloo Mattar consists of chunks of perfectly cooked potatoes and peas in a creamy sweet sauce that has a little kick that creeps up on you. I ordered everything spicy and both dishes were at just the right level of spice. The chicken vindallo was amazing. I'd never had it before but I had been researching recipes on how to make it. I was kinda surprised that there wasn't any hint of sour since lemon or vinegar is used in all the recipes I'd found online. However, I loved the flavor. I could taste pieces of ginger and cumin in the savory sauce. I was hesitant to get chicken because every place I've tried, the chicken is overcooked/dry but the chef cooked it perfectly. I could tell it had been marinated nicely even through the heavily seasoned sauce. The white rice that came with my meal was tender, almost buttery, with whole cumin seeds cooked through-out. Everything was exceptional.
So glad to have found this place. Compliments to the Chef and I'll definitely be back. - Josh P.Bloomington, IN34531Mar 5, 2023

Not sure what I ate, but I am sure it was rewarmed, under seasoned and probably leftover takeout that was resold. WTF
